@Riot, can we get some context on the Soraka Q range nerfs?

I'd say I'm a pretty experienced player. I'm an avid soraka player when I'm not in the jungle, and I've played against her plenty as well. And from my experience and the experience of others, the biggest issue of Soraka was never her Q or her Q regen, it's the fact that she can get so much health regen from coin and the defensive masteries. What this allows Soraka to do is sit behind her adc and spam the W button without actually losing health.

You see in a circumstance where Soraka actually has to use her Q she's put at risk from poke, all ins and ganks. This was sufficient tradeoff for the Q healing her. The problem is when you don't need to use your Q, why put yourself at risk in the first place? And with the changes that are being put forth I wouldn't be surprised if Soraka players stopped putting points in Q in more poke oriented lanes, and opting for more points in W instead because they will literally never use it.

At max range it's already hard to use, relying on forcing your opponents to move a certain way to land it. After the range nerf it'll be practically unusable. But that begs the question, what in the world made you want to target her Q in the first place?

I main support and though I dont play Soraka I feel her biggest issue isn't her long range Q allowing her to sustain off of players who refuse to dodge it, but instead her ability to massively heal through champions burst. Her E is meant to prevent burst champions from killing those she heals, but when she is also allowed to just click W to heal through burst there is an issue.

Soraka is safe sure, but she should be allowed to play passive. Forcing engages on her adc when she is too far back prevents her from entering the fight early since she needs to be very close to her adc to heal. I've personally never found an issue of engaging Soraka in the bot lane. These new support items, namely Frost queens prevents this playstyle even harder. When you frostqueens Soraka and her carry in lane, Soraka being too far back stops her from even stepping into the fight since she has no mobility.

Please give context, and hopefully I can get some answer as to why you aren't touching her heal. Early in the PBE patch, maybe we can get some answers :D

Soraka is a champion without a way to defend herself. Although she is a champion that creates problems for an uncoordinated team for both her team and the enemy team (Try playing Soraka in bronze and explain to your Vayne why you didn't try to heal her while she tried to 1v5). All of the champions above eliminate Soraka and if they do not eliminate Soraka they are in a distance in which they are at the carry and doing their job as peeling. If Soraka is hurt she is basically out of the fight. Nerf her Q? For what? She does no damage with it. Do you want a backline support to all of the sudden become a frontline support? For what? Do you just want her to fail O_O That is like giving Braum backline power even though he is a frontline support, why in the hell do you want him in the backline?

?????

Edit Also how the fuck did this get upvoted and my bug reports get downvoted? What the fuck.

What do you want them to do? Soraka already has by far the lowest base regen in the game at level 1 and level 18, and they already nerfed health pots.

Lower any healing that's not her own by half when applied to herself. Ruins coin on her.

It's already inefficient on her, because it scales off of her base health regen. If the problem is that she's regenerating too much health with these crappy scalings, then she probably doesn't take enough damage in laning.

You could also increase the health costs/reduce the healing on W. Along with that you could make Q and E more reliable tools to make her more interactive in lane. No one has fun playing heal bot Soraka, and this change only makes the issue worse.

There are a lot of ways you can nerf the amount of health she gets without making her Q harder to land. Indirect ways:

  • Increased health cost on W
  • Reduced heal on W active so she has to use it more often (spending more health) to get the same effect
  • Reduced armour/magic resist/health so damage is applied to her more easily

Making it so her Q is too dangerous to use to get health back seems like the worst option, honestly. You're actively making her be less interactive with that change because you're telling her she should sit back and let Coin do the work.

Her W cooldown looks to be a good place to nerf. Her healing an adc through a burst rotation from Syndra isn't healthy. She should be using her E to prevent burst while she heals, not healing so fast that the burst was negligible.

I've been playing a lot of AP Soraka lately, and I'm pretty sure these changes will totally gut her. Which is fine, I guess, because the bottom line is Soraka's kit sucks. The only thing worth a damn is her ridiculous sustain in the early game and ludicrous healing in the late game once she maxes her CDR and gets some AP. She's got no damage and negligible CC compared to her competitors. But right now her healing is too strong and i guess Riot doesn't want teams to have to waste a ban on a support, so they're just going to carpet-bomb her kit and turn her into a troll pick.

What I think would be interesting is putting some interaction between her abilities. I think it would be a lot cooler if enemy champions were snared if they got hit with Starfall while standing in her silence, rather than having to stand in her silence for however many seconds it is. I dunno. I don't think they'll spend the effort to rework her kit to give her any more agency. Right now she can heal her carry through almost anything, which is too much. If she can't heal her carry, though, she'll just be terrible like she was in previous seasons.

I think it is because Riot don't want her laning phase much weaker - it isn't very good.

In teamfights Soraka cannot rely on regen, so she needs to land the Qs. That is what this nerf is trying to target.

Oh I see, they want to make sure we have no reason to pick her.
