What Was The Most Annoying Meta Pick You Ever Had To Play Against?

ArnoldSchwarzens··8 votes·1,051 views

Getting absolutely dumpstered by ranged toplaners made me reflect on all the other nasty things that used to dumpster me in the past and how everyone made posts about them on the forums. Also gave me the idea to make this post.

For me it's AD/Offtank Nidalee top pre patch 4.17. There was a time when this was a thing and everyone played it toplane. It combined the annoying poke aspect of the ranged toplaners we see today with the lane presence of a Renekton and the splitpushing capabilities of Tryndamere. Since I didn't know draft normals were a thing back then I ran into her every single game. People say the Nidalee of today is annoying but that's nothing compared to what she used to be.

Other candidates are Teemo in season 1 to 3, AP MasterYi in season 3 and Riven in season 4, before they nerfed her E and changed her Q damage.

Akali was like completely busted for a patch, wasn't she? Shivers Fiora Tank Fiora is also up there, along with Runeglaive Ez.

Support Illaoi She would grab our adc and her and the adc would beat it to death with attackspeed, then catch up to us and murder us all. Plus, poke. :/

This shit + old warlords (AS buff + bonus lifesteal on a crit). Tryndamere was also another offender for that, impossible to kick out of lane and always wins lane trades.

And there was the Xin meta. When he came out I mean.

Ahhh yes, release god zhao... good times... /s

Oh that shit. I started picking Tahm Kench into Trynd at that time. He try to trade he gets eaten. He dives me he gets eaten . that was a fun time

Need Gold 4 Tent2 votes

Then he goes back, autoattacks minions for a minute and is full hp again. Not winning trades is one thing, but the sustain this mastery gave was bs. I even abused it on Pantheon, though I felt Trynd used it better.

That being said, with regards to sustain, I'm suddenly reminded of AP Yi. Not OP, falls of super hard lategame but the stupid early game poke + sustain. That was toxic.

Besides W, what did AP yi scale with?

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

His Q had a base damage (lv5 of 300) and a 1:1 ratio. Not to mention the targetting was fucked up in the sense that he can hit you with it from a whole screen away if the minions were lined up right.

His ult also gave a 100% cd refund on everything, meaning an AP yi would go into a fight by landing Q on a low hp target, reset and Q another target, reset and etc... The whole time, each Q would ideally be doing aoe damage to 4 targets so an AP yi was the ultimate cleaning crew in a sense.

When that failed, he could press W in the middle of the fight after he Q's (and hope nobody CC'd him) to stall and wait for at least an assist so that his reset spree could begin. AP yi could literally outheal turrets back then with his retarded ratio on W (if you think it's high now, you should see it back then). A single dorans ring + my ap setup (which I forgot how much ap) was +128 hp in bonus heal (on top of base heal at level 1)

That 3.0 or 4.0 scaling was obscene.

Arakadia1 votes

Sounds like a whole lot of fun to deal with!

The upside was, CDR was not an easy stat to come by back then, so a very high ap build yi would typically not have a lot of CDR to spam his poke, and a yi with a lot of cdr wouldn't have much AP. However, he didn't rely on that poke in teamfights, he relied on resets which were easier to come by with bigger bursts so it wasn't uncommon to find Yi running around with somewhere around 800 ap lategame.

Warwick in Preseason 5.

For one horrible patch, Skirmisher's Sabre applied true-damage on hit.

All he had to do was Smite and Ult a target to kill them.

{quoted} For me it's AD/Offtank Nidalee top pre patch 4.17.

well at the very least, that mean someone read the TLDR in my post... XD

as someone who PLAYED top lane nidalee during that meta. i loved it.. but i liked the 4.17 changes more, between her rework 4.10 and 4.17 AD nid was too strong compared to AP nidalee.. and while it WAS really fun... i preferred her as an AP champ. 4.17 kept her VIABLE top, and still good.. but not stupid oppressive like between 4.10 and 4.17, and it made her AP mid lane slightly better. (although it DID take me a good 6 months or so before i finally agreed that attack damage nerfs were "for the better", previously she could CS pretty good in human form and cougar form, after the nerf it make CSing in human form crazy hard, meaning she would need to do it in cougar form which put her in melee range, took me a while to get over that)

as for me? i would have to say the "cinderhulk meta" or the rageblade XinZhao /MasterYi meta from earlier this season were the worse i have ever had to deal with.

Fighting against early Season 6 Poppy was the absolute least fun I've ever had playing top lane. Did absolutely insane amounts of damage, never died, and outscaled you. Fun fun fun.

Darius Remember Post rework Juggernauts? Oh man that was so much f*cking fun.

Yasuo as Bruiser/Tank for sure.

The level 3 permaroot Ryze that existed for a couple of weeks last season. It got to the point where the LCS casters actually talked about how broken it was.

WoonStruck1 votes

Warwick top before his laning was gutted 5-6 years ago.

Edit: Its actually almost 7 years now. lol

Evelynn meta back when she was just newly reworked into a jungler. If I remeber her rework was undertuned at first but once it got buffed into being viable it was Eve jungle every single game, game after game after game.

Nautilus junlge back in his early days was absurd. Mediocre clear speed but his ganks were absolutely cancer. An endless CC chain and red buff on top of that.

hhaavviikk1 votes

nasus back in 2009 when he could reach 100% health damage with 100 AP with his ult

AP Tristana So much targeted burst damage, fun to play as, hell to fight against.

The Whamboozler1 votes

ANY time that Ryze is strong in the meta, he drives me freaking mad. ESPECIALLY before they gave him his "skill shot". The guy is 120% point and click spamming, meaning you can't get anywhere near him without taking a ton of magic damage right up your back end. There are a ton of other annoying champions to be sure... but Ryze always just frustrated the CRAP outta me due to a combination of his damage and his point and click CC. Even Annie has to charge up her stun (and she doesn't really go top to abuse melee champs) but Ryze does.

Noblewind1 votes

Early S6 tank meta with the Iceborn/Sunfire/grasp combo. They didn't die and did insane amounts of damage. I mean, Nautilus mid was an LCS pick, come on...

Droogzy1 votes

As a Jungler/Support main. I still get PTSD from 4.20 Weedwick.

Warwick The only patch I actually ended up taking a break specifically because of one champion.

Any meta in which Zed, Fizz, or Yasuo are relevant. Ganking them was a major pain in the ass.
