How to counter Sated Devourer

Squidblimp··7 votes·4,623 views
  1. Take all the scuttle crabs. They give 2 stacks to the jungler, and almost any laner can easily take them.
  2. Ward their jungle and invade. Give them a hard time. Last hit their camps. Deny them stacks.
  3. Take dragons, or ward dragon and don't let them take it. It gives 5 stacks.
  4. Build thornmail, frozen heart, randuins, etc. Cripple their attack speed and you greatly reduce their DPS.

Basically, delay their powerspike and outscale them. Make sure to have key defensive items on your team when they finally get 30 stacks.

If the Sated Devourer becomes meta, I would go with Jax. His Counter Strike is pretty good and handling a Sated Enemy, while making good use of Sated Devourer himself.

People often don't counterjungle in lower elo. They also don't seem to take scuttle nearly enough, or itemize correctly.

I really hate bending over for lower Elos (even though I'm low Elo myself) I hate it when people are bind to the actual weaknesses an nuances in a champ/item/whatever, and then complain that it's broken.

Just get better.

I usually don't counter jungle, I should probably learn to though, but I do take scuttles on early clears and Udyr is insane at taking towers with the Devourer while still being super tanky and hard to duel

Counterjungling is risky, but if you have good map awareness and see the jungler elsewhere, go and take his stuff. Make sure to leave a small guy so the camp doesn't respawn until they clear it. Also, put some wards in there so you can see where he is and go in when he's in the opposite side of his jungle or something. Or you can just give him a hard time and make him reset his camps. :P

And the downvotes begin

Only champs I have a problem for Devourer is Kayle and Udyr, the rest are fine, but yeah, counter jungling is a good counter to Devourer, as it isn't the strongest item in the early game, giving nothing but some magic on hit and attack speed when first built.

The problem is the constant AOE 40% slow on Kayle's E after she buys Rylai's too. Kayle is kind of like Ryze, either too weak or too strong due to her binary playstyle.

good subject headings but all that is common sense should explain how and when and why such and such a time is a good time for all that

I will start trying it out with Evelynn, as she is sneaky and I have a good amount of time on her, I finally got Rank 5 with fizz so I can start spamming my other junglers to master them too

Squidblimp1 votes

Also people who have good sustain when clearing like Rek'Sai are good too, since they will generally have more HP than other junglers after their clears.

TitanOfTheDeep1 votes

I just got Reksai yesterday so I rather have more time with her so I can get used to trying other things than my main full clear path I do with her, I want to get used with her and Hecarim before I try riskier things so nothing backfires on me in game

Squidblimp1 votes

Yeah go for it! Rek'Sai is pretty good with this Sated Devourer though, she builds Fury faster with the on-hit thingy.

This pro tip straight from Bronze II

Rank restricted forums are where, Riot?

Squidblimp1 votes

I'm not in Bronze. It's fine to disagree with me, but that negativity is uncalled for. Please take your superiority complex elsewhere please, preferably to a psychologist.

I rather go cinder hulk for the tankyness, as I usually get a good amount of fury from the camps to heal up enough to clear the whole jungle, then frozen mallet for damage and health before complete tank

Squidblimp1 votes

I don't like tank Rek'Sai. Other tanks can tank better. I guess if you want a sub-par tank with a good early game, then sure, which is why she is so good in the LCS. However, with the new devourer, you can now build fury so fast that your true damage max fury bite is up much more easily, and so bruiser Rek'Sai actually seems to be good again! :)

So risk getting ganked by laners to stop 1 person from farming which he will do anyways but in your jungle after you die? Brilliant strat, would work in bronze.

Squidblimp1 votes

Because pros never counterjungle, right? And laners are permanently supposed to stay in their lane until the 20 minute mark, right? And that's exactly what happens in the LCS too, right? Get off your high horse.

EDIT: You're also acting like I meant to just stay in their jungle 100% of the time. That's not what I meant.

TitanOfTheDeep1 votes

The frozen mallet does give her a good amount of damage and let's her slow the enemies almost endlessly which does help do even more damage, I rather not get bursted out when I gank a lane

Squidblimp1 votes

Rylai's is even stronger on Kayle though. More damage. Wouldn't recommend Frozen Mallet on Kayle.

I was talking about Reksai, I have yet to try Kayle JG yet, even if I heard how good it's doing
