So I tried to play a ranked game
I don't have a rank yet, so I went into a ranked flex queue to try it out. Being unranked, I figured I would be put against other unranked players, or be placed against low-rank players and the matchmaking would adjust from there, based on my performace.
I jump in, pick top and support, planning to use
in either case.
When the match is found, I'm pretty happy, I get first pick, so there's no way Poppy can get taken from me unless she's banned; I lock her in, and the champion selection follows suit.
My lane opponent picks
, and the game loads in no problem.
Every time I went to hit a minion, I'd lose 10% of my health from teemo's attacks, while my minions seemed to be perfectly fine ignoring him hitting me.
"Okay" I think to myself, "I'll have to wait out under tower and stick close enough to get the passive EXP since I can't get gold from the minions."
So he pushes under tower, then proceeds to hit me without drawing turret attacks, and blind me whenever I would go to hit a minion. Now at 30% health, I back further under my tower, and get jumped at from a mile away and killed by
, who ward jumps while flashing his mastery emote and taking three turret shots with impunity.
By time I get back to lane, Teemo is level 6 while I'm still level 3, and the turret continues to take more minions than I can while I die under my own tower two more times. My first tower falls at 7 minutes.
So flash forward 4 and a half minutes to late game; we're down to our inhibitor towers on mid and bot, while top inhibitor is gone entirely. I've finally made enough passive gold to get my first item and upgrade my
into
and then, after dying under my tower, my team agrees to a surrender when the enemy kills the freshly spawned baron and takes our last two inhibitor towers.
So I look at the results screen checking everyone's ranks in their profile
(me) - unranked
- Bronze I -- "Alright so it does seem to match me with low level players afterall! It was just a rough game I guess"
- Gold V -- "Oh that seems strange"
- Silver III
- Gold V
VS
- Silver I
- Gold IV
- Platinum V
- Silver II
- Silver II
How was this a remotely fair game? In what world would a designer think this level of matching is appropriate to make for an engaging and interesting experience for a player? I was doomed to lose this match the very second the match was found.
