Can a Rioter explain why normal matchmaking creates obviously one sided matches?

My team has one duo queue: a Gold III and level 165 (who was Diamond in past seasons). The Bronze and level 20 player are solo queued. The enemy team has three of the Diamond players queued together.

This is an obviously one sided match. No attempt was made to even it out. Even worse, I was thrown into this match as mid lane after roughly 40 seconds in queue. The Bronze and level 20 players were dumpstered so hard that I would have confused it for intentional feeding if I didn't know their rank/level.

This is not a case of 'high normal MMR.' Both the level 20 and Bronze player barely have 50% win rate. The level 20 has 1 win more than losses. I, on the other hand, have a very high win rate with thousands of normal games played.

What is going on here? Why do matches like this happen? This must be intentional, given that matches like this have been an on-going problem for years, but I'm really struggling to understand why.

Normal MMR/matchmaking is dumb.

It's bad in ranked too. It's all about them forcing a 50% win rate to keep you playing and more likely to spend money.

One of my bigger complaints lately is that I so frequently find out that I'm playing a Normal Draft match with players with a unique or no clantag, and against a team with 3 plays having the same clantag.

So you're telling me it's fair to have players that have never played together, face off against players that probably play together a lot, and are probably on coms?

Put premades against premades! If I'm queueing in solo, I should probably be with and against solos or at least with a premade AND against a premade.

Rank and ranked MMR have nothing to do with normal matchmaking. If you're looking at them to determine the quality of normal matchmaking, you're already messing up.

You should see ARAM. Literally a Jinx, Sivir or Xayah almost every match. Random....suuuure.

Norms are just slightly less fair than ranked...

The whole match making is terrible.

Normal MMR, ranked MMR, ARAM MMR, and all RGM have their own MMR. It makes no sense, but that's how they made it.

I think its to do with the snowbally nature of this game now.

If I am winning my lane, I'm denying CS and exp. I am taking 120g turret plates. I'm getting fed off killing you. The difference in gold is like 2000g if I stomp my lane hard so I can just walk down and dive bot lane. Add to that demolish and rift herald that lets me take 20 towers in the space of 2 minutes and its no wonder people including myself just give up easily now and ff. It's ridficulously hard to comeback, if you do it feels like you got lucky and its better to just go next and try again in the next game.

Less players are playing the game. Thats why hots has so many unbalanced matches often too. League's matches now really arent too far off from hots' with unbalanced matches often and snowballing more often than usual.

Because normal matchmaking doesn't care what your rank is. People by default aren't trying their best so even if you put 10 gold players together things wouldn't really change due to the combination of people not taking the game seriously, trying out new stuff (builds, champions, roles) while there being those who will try as hard as possible and perfect whatever before trying it on ranked.

Normal games are for fun.

Why do you even care? Sit back and enjoy it. It's not like the defeat matters in ANY WAY whatsoever.

If you want competitive matches go solo/duo ranked.

no, no they cant lol. they dont know themselfes

roflcopterssssss2/5/2020, 11:30:27 AM2 votes

your rank in ranked is irrelevant, normal mmr and ranked mmr is completely seperate, that's why they can be matched together

Bulshlaka2/5/2020, 6:17:24 PM1 votes

because the mmr is different for it someone that gets a lvl 30 account then exclusively plays ranked till diamond his normal game mmr will of silver

Nea1042/5/2020, 1:18:31 PM1 votes

No, they don't have any excuse about that disgusting stuff, and if you ask to their "Support" service they don't know anything either (no big surprise).

Anyway, they know it's rigged/flawed; from their Support service: "You can estimate your MMR by reviewing the average rank of players in your games. MMR is not public information."

And then you find out that it matched Plats vs. Silvers. So I can estimate that this is idi absurd, but their system can't :D "Competence" and transparency, btw.

Norms got broken awhile back and IDK why. I've had games with ranges from literally bronze to challenger all in one game. (same lane funny enough, chall blitzcrank did not appreciate his bronze ADC at all). Honestly surprised riot even bothers supporting the game mode if they aren't going to fix it, I find them worthless for fun or practice. Best thing u can get outa norms is a way to kill some time or MAYBE warm up your mechanics before ranked.

But it's usually never worth it.

Sucks but what are we gonna do?
