why do you think we go top 1/ mid 1/ jungle 1/ bot 2?

Whenever I play a mode like one for all I notice there is a shocking number of people who don't understand why this is and insist "you must counter double toplane with double toplane. Or if you take the adc mid or whatever oftentimes the other midlaner will literally just stop playing and demand that you leave and will tell everyone to report you for trolling and intentionally making the team lose. Now what's really bothersome is that when you ask why they do it nobody can really say.

Its always something like "because you do" or "because it has to be 1-1-2" or something like this. Its like so few people have thought about this but then they will go on and pretend they know how to play this game when they can't even come up with a basic excuse for something they enforce and follow nearly every single game.

So why do you think this is? Why do we set the lanes up the way we do?

I have my own answer I'm just curious to see your's if any.

You put the duo bot to be closest to dragon, mid is there for the fastest level 6, top is generally up there because it is a self sufficient champion that operates well farming out a 1v1. At least that's how I generally look at it.

Because I've played since forever, it evolved like this:

In the beginning, jungle wasn't played often. 2 1 2 was most common, as mid lane is short and is harder to gank, so players without escapes tended to be there.

Originally midlane was ADC (I got screamed at for going AP mid once a long, long time ago).

Eventually people realized that playing Jungle meant jungler and solo player got WAAAAAAAAAY ahead in levels. It became mandatory.

The question of WHERE the 1 goes came down to the fact that Baron pit had no spawn in it until the 20 minute mark...that meant Dragon was valuable. If you have 2 top against someone who can farm effectively then you have given up every dragon, essentially.

Eventually AP mid was the thing as ADCs were able to do much better with supports.

Double jungle was a short lived moment but it was cheese enough to work in lower elos.

So why do you think this is?

Pros came up with it as the most efficient way to spread gold around a team and its the best way to babysit the primadonna ADCs of the game.

5 players, 3 lanes providing constant resources (xp, gold) and a jungle with more respawning resources available to be taken.

You want your team to acquire as many resources as possible so they have as much power as possible in a fight, so you want at least one player in each lane to acquire those resources. It also makes sense to have at least one player farming the jungle for those resources. That leaves a fifth player, where should they go?

Teams generally need an adc to provide sustained damage in team fights and objective-taking power, and adcs generally benefit a lot in the laning phase when they have a support helping to zone enemies into that sweet spot where the adc can keep up damage with their ranged autos or at least stay safe while being close enough to the minion wave to cs, they also scale more with gold and items than levels so a support letting them take all the cs doesn't really cost them very much, so the adc/support lane makes sense. Where should that duo lane go?

The three objectives in the early game are towers, dragons, and rift herald. Towers exist in every lane, but they are closer together in the mid lane so a champion attacking that tower is safer from ganks because they don't need to travel as far to safety (also if they have to back they don't have to travel as far to get back to lane so they miss fewer resources). Rift Herald provides a buff that is much better when a champion is alone so it is much more useful on a solo laner than a duo laner. This means a duo lane would provide more use in the lane closest to dragon rather than rift herald.

If there were alternatives to 1-1-2-1 lanes (other than lane swaps and australian lanes which are done to try and avoid bad lane match-ups or counter a predicted lane swap) then the closest would probably either be double mid lane so the team has a lot of roaming power to gank top or bot lane, or double jungle for a faster clear speed and powerful duo ganks. In both cases this means making a tradeoff of lost dragon pressure for unpredictable ganking power because bot lane will be pushed in by a duo more often than not.

This reminds me of when in gym class when I was younger in the game. we were playing the person would think that (say we played basketball) they would insist that someone covers the same exact person the other team is covering.

I'm not good at talkin I hope that made sense :)
