The PROPER way to nerf Kalista
Heya, Ex-Kalista main here. I played her a ton from release point till mid-February, where I picked up Diana. I honestly don't think that Kalista is overpowered at all. Her complex kit and complex mechanics are simply a tradeoff for having complicated counters. But I do recognize that she can be extremely frustrating to play against. (I'll argue the point about OPness in the replies if anyone wants)
The problem with the change that Riot made is that it was a direct hit to her power and identity, but didn't really reduce how frustrating she can be. To me, her identity as a champion is "most mobile ADC while in combat". Her passive means that she'll either fall into one of two categories as far as melees are concerned:
- She can't kite and dies.
- She can kite perfectly and will never be caught.
If Kalista is to be viable at all, it needs to be the second one. I don't think there's much wrong with that, it's just the way things are going to be. A Chogath should never be able to catch a powerful Kalista just as a Twitch should never survive a powerful Talon.
The way that I want to hit Kalista is by attacking her other strengths, adding a bit more counterplay. Kalista at the moment does well against poke and in extended fights.
Changes: Passive: Attack speed animation change reverted. Q: No longer procs passive when used. E: Now shows an indicator when it is able to execute a target. Base Movespeed: 325->320 (Lowest in the game)
The change to her passive made her more frustrating to use, while not solving the overall problem. She'll be building a lot of attack speed anyway, and since she is supposed to be the most mobile adc while in combat I think this change should be reverted. The change to her Q and movespeed are what really change her. These cause her to become immobile while NOT in combat. This means that she becomes vulnerable to poke and catch (thresh/blitz) as she has more difficulty dodging when no enemies are nearby. Counterplay!
