Riot doesn't care about Dr. Mundo at all

Despite being the most binary champion in the game (one skillshot only) and 4 abilities (including passive) being push-to-use, being released in 2009 (8 years ago) Riot still hasn't reworked him yet a single time (cough better rework Ryze 5 times in 3 years cough). Not only that, but his recommended items include item 3001 which's active awards mana spenditure, and Dr. Mundo doesn't have a mana pool. I laughed so hard when I saw this today.

Considering the way Sion Warwick Urgot were reworked I'd +1 a mundo rework. Hopefully they don't lose his identity and do as poorly as they did with Soraka Zilean Galio.

I recently won an ARAM with Mundo

It doesnt matter what your build is beyond item 3065 item 3083 item 3082

WTF, you don't need to rework every fucking champion in the game. Mundo is perfectly fine. He was perfectly fine before the last time they changed him up and made him so OP that he got permabanned for 4 months. I crush people with Mundo on a regular basis. Even against my hard counters, I can still win by playing intelligently (except for the new damn re-OP'ed Fiora).

I'm tired of completely viable champions getting reworked cause their kits aren't braindead enough for the common braindead player to play them. Galio was incredibly powerful before his rework in competent hands. Now all the strategy is gone from his kit and it's just mindless damage.

You got it all backwards, champions get reworked because their kits ARE BRAINDEAD. Old Warwick had point and click ulti, Poppy was a joke in terms of design (CC and DMG immunity for 10 seconds), old Sion with point-and-click stun for 1 million damage, R no synergy with AP build, old Taric had point and click stun and was a running aura of stats with his ulti, Galio 's gameplay revolved around wave clearing and summoner 4 +R and that was it. Just because these things were incredibly braindead and easy to play as well as predict, they all got reworked. Comparing current version o0f DrMundo with these old champions, he doesn't seem any more complex and fun to play with/against, i.e. he should get reworked ASAP.

47% winrate top (Primary role). 51% jungle (33% people play him here.), which is more likely due to the synergy with the % HP jungle item if anything.

Get's down voted anyway

League community logic.

as an aside (i dont disagree with you that mundo could really use a rework)

mana passive doesnt matter; item 3001 is a strong tank item that gives him every stat he wants otherwise, and even gives him more damage

i'd argue it's an Azir item 3115 situation. even though not every part of the item explicitly benefits him, it synergizes well enough that it's good for him anyway. maybe not so much that it's a must buy, but it's not a bad purchase on mundo

That isnt for the mana. It gives health and it gives additional magic damage when he is near.

That mask makes his Q do more damage. Makes his W do more damage. Makes Sunfire Cape/Cinderhulk do more damage. It is perfectly fine on him.

Gosh forbid we have some beginner friendly champions in a game with over one hundred choices.

chipndip13 votes

Gosh forbid I have even the smallest expectations for beginner players when it comes to having the coordination of a muskrat to control a champion beyond one skill shot and walking around on the map.

Keepe1 votes

Almost like there are higher costing champions that display such talent, cheaper ones tending towards easier to grasp mechanics, thus allowing new players to grasp more simple mechanics that they are able to build upon before they work their way towards more complicated ones. But what do I know.

While you are true, there are many champions who have binary design already XinZhao MonkeyKing Kayle Udyr Volibear Nasus ). I'm not saying all of them need to get 100% of their gameplay update reworked, however a certain change/enhancement would be appreciated (for example how they changed XinZhao 'R).

Keepe1 votes

Issue there being that Riot tends to over-complicate things at times. Based on the current state of League, for example, I do not think that the playerbase is prepared for a hypermobile tank with an execute ult that restores health and 50% damage reduction every five to ten seconds that just happens to have Mundo's name plastered on him. In the game's current state, you cannot deny you would likely see something like that happening.

I am all for the improving of gameplay, but with Riot's current mindset it might be better in the specific case of Mundo to keep things simple and functional as opposed to trying to craft "Improvements" for a champion that, while simple and easy to learn, is functional and a force to be reckoned with in a realistic game-state.

But, everyone is entitled to their opinion and, as I am human, my own is likely flawed in my own bias. I am not perfect. Thank you for discussing this with me.

The Cane Master1 votes

I wholeheartedly agree with you, and understand Riot's current gameplay situation. However if we are talking about what's supposedly no1 game in the world, we simply have to expect more complex champions/spells/interactions/animations in the game than what we have been having so far. ''Small indie company'' is a meme that's been out there for quite some time and with this exact reason, some simplest improvements just take Riot too much time in many people's opinion, including mine.

I am glad you have had a part in this topic, I wish there were more participants like you in this community. For that, I thank you too.

So keep champs like Mundo shit tier because we can't expect players to learn and grow in what's considered a hardcore game?

Keepe1 votes

If you say so. Do what you do, I have no intention of arguing. Merely stating my opinion.

The Cane Master1 votes

I never thought you were arguing, nor was I doing the same. We merely exchanged opinions, a regular discussion.

Sona 's Q requires being in adequate range on two targets for maximum effect.

Kayle is in fact the most binary, yet her rework has already been announced.

Lulu 's Q is a double-jointed skillshot, can be combo-ed with E. Her E, and especially R, require precise timing, none of which DrMundo cares about.

Tryndamere is indeed another binary charachter, but at least his dmg scales with his passive that can be built up by action (auto attacking), his W requires timing in order to slow, E dash is a skillshot, and ult also requires exact timing in order to make the most out of it. Yet again, so much more complex than DrMundo 's (lack of) cares.

Mundo just got buffed like 2 or 3 patches ago. Idk what you are saying.

The Cane Master1 votes

He got buffed in terms of dealing with magic damage. However I have nearly 1 million DrMundo mastery, and I can tell you that their change to W didn't improve him the slightest. His dealing with magic damage oriented team was always his niche, having W tenacity and R that lets him have ''a second life'' was always there. Furthermore, his synergy with item 3065 and item 3194 was always good enough to deal with magic damage oriented champions. If you take a look at DrMundo's pro appearances, you'll see that he was picked as a counter to Rumble way before these ''very large buffs''. Darshan and Marin were the ones using it 100%, although there were undoubtedly others too.

TL;DR: His win rate didn't increase the slightest, and is still <50% by a few percents. Not to mention that he's still not a competitive champion (0 pro appearances).

Ahris1 votes

The meta right now is all about AD, so it is normal for him not to be picked. If he did that will be crazy. Once ap meta comes, Mundo will be a really nice pick. I play him and find him a really nice champ. Just wait for ad meta be go away and if he is still less thsn 50% then buffs may arrive.

Except he's neither fun to play with nor against.

reaons why mundo rework isnt priority

  1. mundo is always strong in tank meta's 2)mundo doesnt cause game breaking issues even WHEN he is strong
  2. mastering mundo doesnt grant you god status ( which is why Azir Ryze are getting reworked )
  3. he has not been poppy'd ( like Aatrox Azir Ryze has )
  4. riot recommended items are not usually correct ( remember when maokai's meta was an AP support? or when AD kennen was more popular)

reaons why mundo rework isnt priority

  1. mundo is always strong in tank meta's

It's not a tank meta ever since the mid season update. It's damage oriented top meta.

2)mundo doesnt cause game breaking issues even WHEN he is strong

This is not a reason to ignote the champion for 8 straight years (released in 2009, without a single rework so far).

  1. mastering mundo doesnt grant you god status ( which is why Azir Ryze are getting reworked )

Which is why it's unsatisfying and not fun to play him more than once in a long time, fulfilling the criteria for a rework.

  1. he has not been poppy'd ( like Aatrox Azir Ryze has )

Nor was he competitive any time other than early season 4 (Shyvana , Renekton DrMundo top meta)

  1. riot recommended items are not usually correct ( remember when maokai's meta was an AP support? or when AD kennen was more popular)

While this is true, Kennen was always hovering meta status while having a solid design while Maokai was almost always meta champion.

you are missing the point here its not about being strong or weak which earns reworks its about being unhealthy for the game/ udderly trash design ( old sion taric )

until mundo literally warps the game like azir and ryze or is so stupidly unplayable like yorick and poppy ( prework ) he should be prioritized

not saying he should get one, but there are far better choices to work on when you have a pretty well rounded champion who is breaking the game regularly

He literally didn't receive a rework for 8 straight years. His W was never changed while his E got %bonus MR on successive hits. Calling it a rework is so wrong, it's like saying Nasus, Xin Zhao or Volibear got reworked ulties while all they did had were QoL changes. TL;DR: You have no idea what you are talking about.
