Tired of people saying they can't climb

Randomonium··5 votes·762 views

So I figured I'd make a post where everyone can put their starting rank this season and their current rank. The purpose of the post isn't to call people who can't climb bad, it's to show them that if other people can do it then so can they.

I started Bronze 3 this season and now I'm Gold 5. It took me roughly 250 games to climb with a 55% win rate.

Why am I not higher than Gold 5? Because I haven't put in the effort and I don't deserve to be higher than Gold 5. Same is true for everyone else. If you can't get out of bronze or silver or whatever other rank you're in its because you either haven't played enough games or you are at the rank you deserve to be.

Your logic is just flawed. It's true that you progress at about a 55% win rate. But pure statistics show 50/50 wins losses which means you only have control over about 5% of games. That's not something that's easily done or easily overcome. There's games I've gone with 20+ KDA's top cs in the game, and lost cause my team ran down mid one at a time dying horribly. There's many games which simply can't be won regardless of how well you play and to say in a blanket statement that everyone of a certain rank "deserves" to be there is just false. It may be true for you and others but it's NOT true of everyone.

Its been awhile since I took stats class but your math seems off. That or I am just not understanding what your saying. Either way there is no excuse for being bronze except for being new/inexperienced or intentionally trolling, which if intentionally trolling means you would be ok with your rank and would not try and defend it so it only leaves one option.

Randomonium2 votes

How do you reason you only have control over 5% of your games? I'd love to see the math behind that logic.

Yes there will be games where you dominate and still lose. There will also be games where you get crushed in lane and your team carries you. Those games are the extremes not the norm.

If you, on average, play better than someone in your elo then over time you will climb until you play the same as the average person of that elo. That's just common sense. The number of times you have bad teammates will average out with the number of times you have good teammates and in the end all you will be left with is your own performance.

The only way you aren't at the elo you deserve is if you haven't played enough games. Once the sample size is large enough everyone will rise to the rank they are supposed to be.

People who claim the system is rigged are just delusional. I used to think the same way believe me. I blamed my team and didn't think I deserved bronze. Then I finally accepted that the only common denominator in all my games was me. I finally accepted that it was hypocritical for me to focus on the mistakes of others when I made plenty of mistakes myself. And you know what happened? I climbed out of bronze easily. Just like that. Just by accepting that I wasn't good and working on my fundamentals a bit my win rate went from being less than 40% to being over 60%.

^^^ I only played 112 ranked games before I just stopped. Some people think I'm on a smurf because my KDA and Winrate are to high to be in silver 4... No clue what I would even out to be though.

Started season silver 5. Currently gold 2 53% win rate.

Spent a lot of the season trying different roles and playing with bronze/silver friends. Ranked another account from bronze 2 to gold 4. And another from bronze 3 to gold 5.

Edit: Just FYI I didn't actually boost my friends... I am not good enough haha. We played a lot but they all still about the same as where they started the season lol. I was really only to actually rank up when playing games alone and lost a lot of lp playing with them, which is why my 3rd account currently gold 5 0 lp with poor mmr and double the games played.

I say it again and I'm not going to hold anyone's hand in figuring it out. The simple fact is that some people are bronze because they haven't played enough ranked games, haven't had good luck (as I have had) in promo's which artificially reduce progression, and impossible teams. I find it rude, egotistical and elitist to suggest everyone of a certain rank belongs there. It's simply not true for a lot of people. Don't believe it? play with me. I'll show you how working my ass off to control the map and get people fed fails every time. I've challenged diamond players and others to defy that mathematical certainty over a small sampling of games and they've only proven it true. Dozens of times now. You really only have control of about 5% of games. When you hit that in stride, you progress, when you have a slightly off game or a team that can't get it together or even attempt to play at the same skill level you remain static or worse. I have 60 and 70% win rates with many of my most played champions. But it's not enough to rank up both because I'm not playing enough and because when I HAVE to win a particular game, my luck sucks. And what I mean by that is I'll win EVERY game into promo's and lose the ONE game I need to rank up. My win rate over those games is easily 70% but I lose the one game that matters.

It's false logic and bad attitude's which condemn people in bronze and silver. It's a problem in our community that hasn't been resolved and you guys just assume that there's nothing wrong. Your ability did help you out of bronze or to whatever rank you're at now. But that WASN'T the only factor.

You will climb if you deserve it, simple as that. If you are loseing because "bad luck" and "feeders" that means you arent good enough to carry a team like that yet.

almost every one of my wins and losses are because of, guess what?? ME and my team, not because someone is feeding on my team, not some bad luck and a smurf on the other side. there are only 2 of my 112 games that the loss was 100% not my fault, 3v5 matchs.

Statistically you have less of a chance of someone trolling so, dont push it off on luck. If you lose, look at what you did wrong that match, dont blame it on luck.

EDIT: you only have control over 5%? Funny, Everyone has 100% control of the game, a simple click to the left or to the right, a wrong call, not placing a new ward, leaving lane, and even a simple remark in chat can decide the game.

Pure comedy. I'll give you the same challenge everyone has failed at. Win 4 of 5 games with me at my current MMR. If you can't do it, post that you're wrong. If you can, I'll accept I'm missing something. But you won't. Because it's NOT my play that holds me back.

If its ranked, no thanks cause I am done with it for the year.

and not winning 4 of 5 games would actually still prove you wrong. Lets say one of the games get decided by a lee sin that hits a q on me from the fog of war. While you might call that luck for him and bad luck for me, here is what it actually is. He could have seen me at some point and was able to predict where i was or there is a ward that currently sees me. On my end it is I could have went another way, I could have placed a ward in a near by bush earlier, I could have swept the area of enemy wards earlier.

See? Its not luck.

If you've provided your evidence before then link it here. You can't just make baseless claims like "you're only in control of 5% of your games" and expect anyone to believe you. If you only had control of 5% of your games then people couldn't smurf back to diamond in a couple hundred games. If you only had control of 5% of your games then elo boosting wouldn't exist. If you only had control of 5% of your games then one diamond person couldn't boost all their friends out of low elo. There are literally hundreds of streamers who do unranked to diamond series who disprove your claim that "you're only in control of 5% of your games."

I'll even disprove you claims with my own statistics. I've tracked over 2,000 games I've played (normals and ranked) and my data shows a direct correlation between my performance and my win rate. For example, here is my win rate (y axis) as a function of my KDA (x axis) for every role.

http://imgur.com/LvTC4Wa

You'll see that there are games where I have a huge KDA (6+) and yet still lose. Games like that happen. However, they happen extremely rarely. You'll also see that there are plenty of games where my KDA is crap (<2) and yet I still win. Over time the games where you carry and lose equal out to the times where you play poorly and still win.

You have a total of 59 games on your most played champions. I have more ranked games on a single champion. You can't claim its impossible to climb when you don't play enough to climb in the first place. That's like saying its impossible to pass a course when you only show up to 10% of the classes. You're not going to climb if you don't put in the effort. Even if you have "silver" or "gold" or even "platinum" mechanics if you don't put in the time or effort then you don't deserve to be those ranks. You can be the most talented athlete in the world but if you don't show up to practice day in and day out then you aren't going to make the pros.

With promo helper you excuse is null and void regarding your promos. If you fail a promo series then the next time you go up to that promo series you only have to win 1/2 or 2/4 to advance. Hell, if you fail your promos to a new division twice (i.e. bronze 1 to silver 5) it will even give you 2 free wins the next time you make your promo series. If you are consistently winning 60-70% of your games then you will fail your promos a maximum of once.

I'm not condemning people in bronze or silver. Hell, I was there not too long ago. I'm trying to tell you guys that the only person standing in your way is YOU. You are the guards of your own prison. I am not special. I am not a mechanical god. I make an absurd amount of mistakes. If I can get out of bronze and silver MULTIPLE times then so can you. If all these other people can get out of bronze and silver (or higher) then so can you. Bad luck only exists if your sample size is small. If you keep playing and you deserve to climb then you will climb. That's basic statistics. If I play a game with you where I have a 55% chance to win then I want to play that game with you 1,000 times because that's how I'll guarantee I turn a profit. Its how the casinos have made their billions. League is no different. If you are truly better than your rank then the deck is stacked in your favor and the more you play the more you will profit. If at the end of the day you still can't climb then you need to face facts and accept that you aren't as good as you think.

You make a fine argument. Prove it. If you're good enough, play with me. IF you're correct we'll win. If wrong, you won't be able to proceed.

Simply put, your last sentence isn't correct.

I'll happily play with you anytime you want. However, it doesn't seem like you've been listening very well. Sample size is the key. If we play 1 game a win isn't a guarantee. However, if we play 100 games then odds are good I'll win at least 50 of them. My 2,000 games of data provides more evidence than any amount of games we could ever play. I literally track every stat from every game (cs, wards, wards killed, pink wards purchased, damage dealt, damage taken, kills, deaths, assists, kill participation, etc, etc, etc.) There is a direct correlation between my performance and my win rate. There are also hundreds of streamers who do unranked to diamond series who climb with no issue. There are countless websites that guarantee they can elo boost you to diamond. All of these things dismiss your arguments. Unless you have some better counterarguments than "play 1 game with me" then this debate is pretty one sided.

That said, add me sometime. I'm an ADC main now and I'm always looking for a decent support.

I'm a godmode support. xreadyplayeronex. You can play with me any time. Challenge is as follows: Win 4 out of 5 games which proves that YOUR skills are enough to counteract any bronze team mate and prove what you're saying. I'm not contesting that for a majority of players, there's nothing wrong with the system. But that's, as you state, across hundreds or thousands of games. Statistically, everything makes sense. Specially if you're riot and look at millions of games. But that doesn't mean that their aren't outliers. It literally means that those outliers DON'T effect the overall statistics of the community and act only locally to those players due to a number of factors; skill being almost irrelevant to it.

Randomonium1 votes

5 games is not a sufficient sample size nor is an 80% win rate practical. Like I said, if you want to play 100 games I'll win over 50 of them no problem. Like I said, I'm not a god player. You don't need to be a god player to get out of bronze. You just need to be consistent and play a lot of games.

Statistical outliers only exist in small sample sizes. When you have hundreds and hundreds of games played the chances of inequality effectively drop to zero.

I really feel like you're not listening to anything I say. SAMPLE SIZE IS THE KEY. If you only play a few games even a challenger player can lose (there's even a famous video of doublelift losing to bots that illustrates this point.) However, over large sample sizes (100+ games) a higher elo player will ALWAYS out perform a lower ranked player. Likewise, if you aren't in the elo you belong then after a couple hundred games you will climb.
