We need a tank rework for preseason

The very definition of being a tank comes down to being a giant obnoxious don't attack be sign You pack cc and utility and sometimes good base damage as well as engage tools and can zone/peel

You are this guy nobody wants to attack because its kind of pointless because he wont die in reasonable timeframe and or there are other reasons not to attack the guy like a thornmail.

Currently however no matter how much defense you buy you get melted, so the entire i'm tanky don't attack me its futile part is gone.

And we don't really have many don't attack me tools outside of a thornmail.

the only thing we do have is some damagy options to kind of say hey if you don't deal with me im going nto burn you down over time with sunfire or do some damage with titanic or keep slowing everyone around me with iceborn. And i think these options are fine they don't deal too much damage and you sacrifice other tank stats for it to grab more attention so people get another reason to deal with you outside of your cc/utility.

The main issue i see with tanks is not their damage, if they deal much damage its keystones, and lets be honest even with keystones their damage ain't all that impressive. Its the fact they melt so fast since riot wanted everyone to feel like they are relevant, even in the 1v1's vs tanks when 5 guys focus the tanks well then he melts in mere 2-3 seconds. And there isn't much to do about it.

And while i agree that tanks shouldn't be unkillable the current situation is also not acceptable because it defeats the purpose of playing a tank. currently if you are closest to the enemy team you will get focused nobody cares if you are the tank because you only last maybe 1 second longer then the carry so its doesn't matter to focus you.

What tanks need is ways to makes themselves uninteresting targets again other then being a ball of stats because it isn't working. Currently carries hold all the cards with grievous wounds penetration and % damage to pretty much deal with any and all you build as a tank. If we were to buff tank stats to the point it takes forever to kill a tank then we would just create a new problem again.

In my opinion, yes this is subjective you may disagree, i think tanks should be slightly more durable, that or damage overal need to be toned down.

And then we need for tanks to have options to say hey don't attack me or don't focus fire me. These things can be achieved through items, but also masteries or adjustments to tank kits to give them some tools.

Example items of what i am looking for would be item 3075 item 3053

Not that these items are perfect but they do have things in common, with steraks if you deal a bursty amount of damage whether its focus fire or a mage burst it procs a big shield absorbing more damage. Thornmail makes it so you return damage upon being attacked. Effects like that is what im looking for in tank itemization.

Things where if certain conditions are met you gain special effects, like if you get hit by X amount of people for at least X damage in a small window you become immune to damage for a second, this would be an effect to counter focus fire for example.

Another effect to counter ambient damage, Things like all the random aoe that hits you could be something which gives you 2 stacks for every spell hit and 1 for basic attacks and then at 10 stacks it would give a small shield for like 5xlevel + 5% of max health. Stacks would decay when out of combat for x seconds The more you get hit by all this random damage the more tanky you become.

Then we also could have actives like an item which stores damage and then reflects it back in the form of a blast in The direction of the one who broke the damage threshold for firing the projectile. Or active which reduces incoming damage leeches health from damage dealt by allies for X seconds

Tanks need more windows of tankyness and ways to make themselves unattractive targets, whther its through item actives or passives keystones or small changes in their kits. I gave some examples and i know they are probably not the best. But the idea is to give tanks tools to deal with damage other then armor, magic resist and health, without making them immortal in the 1v1 or being complete pushovers or indestructible objects in teamfights

TLDR Tanks need other ways of being tanky and making themselves uninteresting targets other then being a ball of armor and health.

It's already confirmed that Assassins are getting the next class update, though Tanks(and Divers) were also high on the list,so they might come next.

Basically the midseason of season 7 is our best chance to see a tank update soon.

There is currently one of these that you're completely missing. Guardian Angle is one of the strongest tank items in the game currently and should generally be picked up on most tanks around item 4. It's really hard to focus a tank who doesn't even die when they die.

I would agree that tank items and masteries could probably do with a look over however. They seem a little on the weak side right now, especially the Resolve Tree.
