Ornn: Discussion on His Kit and Gameplay

First, my reaction when I saw this:

#HOLY SHIT HE'S AMAZING!

Second: This is the third time in a row now that I've been excited for a champion! Kayn was decent, Urgot came out amazing, and now I'm excited to see how Ornn will do as well.

So to go over the basics for those who (for whatever reason) haven't seen the reveal:

  • Passive basically makes you a living shop for yourself in lane and will also allow allies to upgrade one item of theirs.

  • Q is similar to a Braum's ult, except mini, no knocks-ups and only slows and spawns a pillar at the end for a few seconds.

  • W makes you Unstoppable, shields you, and makes you belch fire for a few seconds and the last burst makes enemies brittle: having them take extra % health damage when struck by immobilizing abilities and causing said abilities to last a bit longer. Ornn's attacks also cause a knockback to brittle enemies allowing the trigger of it.

  • E is a charge to which if he collides with terrain, nearby enemies will be knocked up. This also destroys any player made terrain, so stuff like Trundle's E, Anivia wall, Taliya wall, Jarvan pit can be destroyed and has synergy with your pillar created with Q.

  • Ult is you summon a ram towards you, causing enemies hit to become brittle. You can reactivate ult when colliding with ram to redirect it and knock up enemies and apply brittle as well.

Now to my part of the discussion. I think his kit might be one of the most fun kits I've seen in a while. The fact that we've now got a blacksmith that can actually create his own items for lane is just insane, but really sells the whole feel of his character. And the fact that allies can get an upgrade for one of their items to be even stronger is also a good idea, since again adds to character and even puts out team utility a bit. Only concern is that we don't know the upgrades are or how powerful they'll be.

Synergy with Q and E I feel is solid. When glancing over this first time I was a bit confused about the pillar part but down to E it made sense. On top of this, E will also have devastating effects when combined with you Q at the right moments or even help against champs like I mentioned before by either turning it against them for a knockup or just down right destroying part/all of it.

W is where I feel is where most of the fun is going to be, but also the most frustration, mostly with the unstoppable. Everything else I think is good but having a brief moment of Olaf ult kinda feels a bit cheap for me, especially if I'm playing very heavy CC champs or doing some other actions, like Urgot ult or Bard ult (does that stop Bard's ult?).

Finally the ult is was really makes this champ for me, because I believe it's so far the only ult that can be redirected allowing for either sneaky knockup surprises or even just good outplays. And I do feel like that's needed since if they didn't add that in, it would probably just be an ult that would charge at you and enemies could just side step it and it wouldn't be that great or exciting.

Anyways those are just my thoughts, but now what are yours on Ornn?

I think the strongest thing about him is the ability to buy without backing, and giving your team the ability to move their items beyond the normal threshold is coooool
