Why is Teemo countered by a free trinket?

Honest question. It feels strange to me that any champion in the game can completely disable Teemo's ultimate by using the free red trinket. I would understand if enemies were using the red trinket to find and then eliminate the mushrooms but that is not what most people use it for that I've seen. Most just click 4 and run right through the shrooms, not having to worry about them activating and it feels extremely unfair especially since it lasts for 10 whole seconds and only has a 65 second cooldown.

So my question: Why was it decided that the red trinket should disable Teemo traps instead of just revealing them? I'm very interested to hear about this as with his ult disabled, Teemo's only other damaging ability is his q.

Because red trinkets are Riot's way of holding the rookie's hands in hopes they learn how to counter Teemo instead of bitching about it like part of the comnunity.

If it stops them from insulting me while I play Teemo, be my guest!

Because Riot doesn't do stealth and anti stealth well.

It's the Evelynn problem.

Because... idk trinkets are a shitty mechanic to start, they should just have kept sight and vision wards, or even made a slot exclusive for wards. Ap teemo is dead, he is only playable as a gunblade + mallet kinda bruiser now because mushroom ratio and duration got gutted when teemo was an under average champion.

"Ap teemo is dead." This statement makes me sad. :( Thanks for your input though! :)

It is not dead

The fact that you could never chase him if it didn't disable would be unfair.

But his shrooms have a cooldown and they don't take up the whole lane. Plus if you build magic resist it seems pretty easy to nullify their damage.

If you build MR just to counter one ult it pretty much means its not healthy. Just like how tanks had to build QSS to counter Trundle even though the item didn't build into anything good for them. His shrooms have a cooldown that is way lower than how long they last, meaning he can have a whole ton in place if he gets CDR which is easy with AP items now.

What do you mean "if you build MR just to counter one ult" its not healthy? It's not like you build it ONLY to counteract his ult. That's like saying Leblanc is unhealthy because she can one shot you if you don't build MR.

Building MR just because of one ult isn't valuable. If the enemy team is all AD except for Teemo and instead of getting armor I get MR just because of his damn ults then its pretty unhealthy. One singular ability should not force you to change up your build potentially giving you a disadvantage because of it. Riot saw that and made it so his ult can be disabled with Oracle. The original point was that disabling the traps meant you could chase him, you just thought of the damage part whereas I was thinking of the slow it provides meaning you will never catch him.

But you don't get MR only because of his ults. His autos deal a ton of magic damage and so does his q. Hence, you are not buying MR to counter Teemo's ult but rather Teemo overall.

Plus then wouldn't Zed's ult be considered extremely unhealthy because the hourglass negates it?

His poison from his passive isn't enough to make me build a whole MR item. Zhonyas is an item you rush in lane against Zed sometimes, but you know what else happens with it? Every single mage gets it before the end of the game almost always even if there is no Zed. That's because its useful not just for Zed ult negation.

First off, his e does damage too, but besides.. if the enemy laner takes a sweeping lens just to clear your shrooms, he's sacrificing vision as well. That, in turn can allow your jungler to apply more pressure for you to get a lead, at which point you may not even need your shrooms.

I wonder, do the trinkets also disable shaco's puppets?

This is true but he also has 4 other teammates who can provide vision. I'm not sure that it's as big a detriment as it seems to be having one person take a scanner. And that is true that e provides a lot of damage but my point is that a major part of his kit is hard countered by a free item. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he is unique to the game in this sense (the scanner definitely is not as detrimental to Shaco or Evelynn, and the hourglass while saving you from an ult does not allow you to continue fighting for the duration + the hourglass costs gold).

Also, I'm fairly certain that trinkets do disable Shaco's puppets.

Riot thought by enabling teemo to throw his mushroom in team fights, it will make him better in team fights. Let be honest. teemo is not made for team fights and thus why he is a scout. He is there to provide vision and stealth and break out of it for element of surprise. His ult is useless 1v1 because it takes 1.5second for the mushroom to burst and enemies are not dumb. His W is just meh, and his Q blinds so spells do work against him whilst enemy is blinded. Only thing that made him strong was how annoying he could be with his mushrooms and that's where AP teemo would have had success. Riot just fkd him over by letting a free trinket disable his ult. His kit also is not very good and you have to build hybrid AP/AD to life steal and to do spell damage with his Q and R. It's not cost effective at all. Its typical for riot to overly buff a champ and once it's bought in mass numbers then just utterly nerf it. Just a money scheme and it shouldn't come as a shock as well.
