Jokes on you,
was reworked precisely so that it can be abused by ranged AD carries.
Im pretty sure the intended purpose of ga was not giving fat tanks a second life
Im pretty sure the intended purpose of ga was not giving fat tanks a second life
It buy and large depends on the season. Back when I began playing, it was predominantly a Glass cannon item. And even with the previous iteration, the %HP had a hard minimum HP restored, allowing a larger portion of a Glass cannons hit bar restored. Though it never seemed to be popular on glass cannons, if only because of the defensive stats.
And that the part I find hilarious, (and why I don't play glass cannons.) the fact that ADC's will forgo any defensive utility, because building into it hurts their DPS. And yet they complained that they keep getting one shot. Incidentally, the new GA got similar reception to EoN. Because putting a defensive utility on an offensive scaling item, is apparently cancer.
Ah so they just reworked it into something noone can use except ad champs who can make use of the bf sword. You know even as a midlaner having a GA was nice.
Maybe if tank items were legitimately buffed in the stat department then taking away GA from tanks would have been fine. As it is tanks don't live any longer than they used to but now don't get a revive.
But the thing is it was nerfed because of them, and was just recently reworked "because they were the only ones that purchased it anyways"
Classic Riot. This is like the time they said not enough people played dominion for them to work on it, but the reason people didn't play it is because they didn't work on it...
Ahhh, the age old riddle of; "Which came first, the no-one played Dominion, or the Riot didn't work on it?"
Ahhh, the age old riddle of; "Which came first, the no-one played Dominion, or the Riot didn't work on it?"
I remember urgot being popular... so it definitively happens that they just don't care enough to work on something to make it popular...
The opposite also happens. Does anyone remember a time that lee wasn't popular for more than a few months?
you kidding? he's never been unpopular for more than a month XD
joking, but that's pretty much the case as so far, it seems the only time people will mention him not being the jungle baseline was during the Cinderhulk meta
It's not abuse if that's the intended use http://i2.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/022/138/reece.JPG?nor

Hydra? Am I missing something?
Got me on that one. That one is up there like "One of these things is not like the others, one of these is melee-only"
It didn't used to be melee only. Go look at it before it was reworked. Tiamat stacking was a thing...
Its harder to find videos of it, but here is a good referance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyzSY9osQok
There was actually a thing called tiamat tuesday....
Also old tiamat/hydra did quasi-true damage. The splash damage was based off of the first target you hit, and didn't have to go through the second person's armor. So if your enemy was in a wave of minions and you stacked them you could deal 150% damage to the target using the minions armor...
GP was another big abuser of this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZguYSGotBU
Hydra? Am I missing something?
Well tiamat used to be for all and wasnt unique. Six tiamat twitch was a thing i think you can imagine the havoc
It's melee-only. It used to not be. Imagine how fun that must have been.
Hydra? Am I missing something?
You weren't there when
abused the hell out of tiamat and hydra back in season 2. If you think he was a team killer now, back then he would wipe teams in half the time as he does now with it. He was the sole reason why Titanic hydra is a melee only item.
Why can't they just make it melee only

Why can't they just make it melee only
Cause the don't use "For him/For her" mechanics.
cough hydra items cough
My assumption is that if you normalize that kind of thing then it becomes a cop-out balancing excuse. "Well, we don't actually know how to balance ranged vs melee so we're just going to reserve all the best toys for melee only and tell ranged to pike off"
if the past has anything to go by, they clearly can't balance it
all had to be changed in some way because ranged champs abused them
too but I wanted to put it aside to tell everyone scroll over it in their comment typing box, the text comes up huge for some reason

Did I say adc? I said ranged champs. Not every ranged champ is an adc.
....how many ranged, AD champions are in this game that arent ADCs?
The ones who arent ADCs are still pseudo-ADCs - like Urgot, Jayce, and Gnar.

....did you just say Graves and Quinn arent ADCs? They are ADCs, just not from botlane.
Gnar plays like an ADC whenever in Mini. And Kennan and Teemo are hardly ranged ADs - both combined, they have exactly 1 AD ratio. At best, they are currently played as hybrid champions who rely on on-hit damage. Like, just because you can play Crittlesticks doesnt mean that Fiddle suddenly becomes a ranged AD.
Graves and Quinn do not play as ADC's, they play as burst assassins. And those aren't off role, those are their current best builds and only viable ones in some elos.
This is because riot has completely flopped on their design intent and implementation of AD as a stat. With a little bit of the marksmen update sprinkled in.
One big point, is that the actual name of the stat is basically meaningless now. It's not longer attack damage, it's been inflated to just mean physical damage (bar a few exceptions). Which means you now have insanely high scaling on champions which were never intended to have it, and then the rest of the champions and itemization, being reworked to make up for this disparity.
I think a lot of the issues of marksmen abusing items, can be traced back to the increasing abidance of "AD casters", but basically just ability focused AD champions (when you say casters people think you exclusively mean mage or something). The arms race which it creates, leaves very little remove for designs which can be utilized against them, which they can't also utilize. If tanks can utilize it, then so can fighters. Fighters, are overwhelmingly AD, so their itemization translates, in part, to marksmen itemization. Even when you try to shift the focus to things like Crit, the core design of these champions is still AD, putting them in bed with most of the fighter, or "skirmishers", itemization.
It does my heart well, too see i'm not the only one who noticed this. [zombie-nunu-tears]
DORANS SHIELD/ GUARDIAN ANGEL ON MARKSMEN ARE FOR COWARDS. YOURE A COWARD IF YOU BUY THOSE ITEMS ON MARKSMEN!
If it makes me a coward winning the game, I'd do it
As far as I know Dorans Shield will only get a total gold increase 400 -> 450 which seems fair to me.
Plus Dorans shield is only used by Yasuo in mid or top laners against Rumble and Teemo. It was never a popular item for melee's.

I have to disagree with you here. Top lane carries don't like to take it, but anyone from a tank to a juggernaut loves it, especially if their going into a difficult lane.
As riven I always bought it against ren. It gave the needed sustain to deal with harass and basically left you unkillable unless you died to an all in.
Lul wut? Even vlads, kled, zeds take it. Literally everyone against a poke matchup.
I still see vayne as the only one who is really "abusing dorans shield" right now.
I really, really hate when an AP midlaner becomes popular as a support.
One day eveything is fine, and the next day, BANG! Surprise motherfucker! Your mage is now a support, and two patches later Riot nerfs him/her because "a support shouldn't do that damage".
Bonus points for Riot reworking them a short time before for literally no reason, or promising they wont end as supports but lmao they lie.
Duuuude,
ADC's love the item because it negates poke.
Thinking that marksmen wouldn't use it was just dreaming on your part, anyone able to guess would know that any champ that could would build it when having a difficult lane since it negates poke and strong early all ins.
And old Sterak was essentially a superior verision of GA, cheaper, AD and you didn't get hardstuck for it to activate.
And it had a shorter CD.
Everyone knew the marksmen were going to use it the moment we saw it.
If you want marksmen to stop using defensive items then remove the need to fight and poke early on in the botlane, then they will just farm until they run everyone else over anyway.
If you want marksmen to stop using defensive items then remove the need to fight and poke early on in the botlane, then they will just farm until they run everyone else over anyway.
But that would mean all the mid lane rejects would have to leave bot lane.
And that doesn't look like its going to happen any time soon with riot changing titles of these champions to supports and in Zileans case changing their passive to force them into bot lane like with Morde.
What is it about ADC's buying it that makes it an abusive use of the item?
Unintended Sustain, bonus damage on minions that are supposed to help Fighters farm, not ADCs. It ain't fun for top laners to fight against a lane bully like Quinn that starts with 20 ad in runes and masteries and cashes in free sustain against their already handicapped melee enemy.
