Why isn't karthus a part of the mage update?

YoungFarmer··10 votes·1,241 views

out of all the champions you decided to change and buff you forgot two of the weakest and unpopular midlaners, Karthus and Galio. Why are they not getting anything during the mage update?

because Karthus is dead... and Riot removed Revive from the game.

"and Riot removed Rekarthus from the game" thought I'd fix that for you bud :)

How can you fix something that is so prefect?

Because they actually has their own kinds of "identities", though on the undertuned side.

Riot's purpose of mage reworks is not to buff/nerf certain champs, but to give them unique identities so it's not just "X is simply a better version of Y". Buffing/nerfing certain champs is more of a result of such reworks, like how Brand will become a terror botlane because his rework makes him more "multi target = more damage" oriented.

It's been said over and over, but here it is one more time: class passes like the mage update and the adc/juggernaught update have nothing to do with 'who needs help because they're underplayed or weak', they are 100% to make champions more unique so that you can't pick two and say that they do the exact same job so you'd only pick which one has the higher numbers. Full stop.

There is not other champ like karthus, so he isn't touched during this class update.

First off galio doesn't need to be reworked at all. Don't give the suggestions they don't need doing. Remove galio from the forum post plz.

And karthus is actually fine his kit is well meshed and such he just needs buffs.

MunchCrunchLunch2 votes

they said galio needs a rework and hes on the short lirst

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

yeah galio is up for a full game play rework I believe.

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

Yep they talked about it long time ago, I just want them to forget so galio can stay the same :/

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

Ye ik I just hoped and prayed they forgot :/

Hopefulyl they keep galio's ranged damage, W and ulti aside from that I want to see the changes incoming.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

well thats like all of his kit. i'd like to see a way to avoid his ult. a channel time or something would be great.

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

That isn't his whole kit really, his passive, q and e could really use reworks and his ulti is pretty good to go vs since he's a melee champ but has ranged poke he can't just cleanly go onto you and ulti.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

to be fair his passive is quite comparable to poppys old passive. quite strong. too strong if u ask me. to ap mages this guy is unkillable. hell even ad champs. he doesnt die and he can one shot u. i dont mind him being naturally tanky and also deals damage but not this much. give him more utility. but take away some of damage+tankiness combo

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

Yea that's why I want the passive reworked, from his W alone he gains 45 AP, from base stats 25 AP, from 1 abyssal 95 ap, from 1 athena 80AP (I said this after abyssal because after patch mage build galio will build morel thus squishier thankfully). All on top of shoes+3 other items (I usually build Sorcs, Hourglass, Void, and tbh at this point i'd rather grab visage instead of deathcap for 45 AP even if mage built).

While some galio pref just going full mr but I dislike doing that.... However I havn't tested it so I can't really point out if it does enough damage to take 30%+ of a squishy's HP for stormraider like the mage build does.

I will probably lose a lot of power if they do rework passive but personally while I do want them to rework it I also don't want them to even though I shouldn't :/

W, Ulti should never be changed though those are the only 2 skills I'm fully against being changed xD

Although now that I think about it, if they rework galio's passive, q and e so it synergizes with ulti I would love it because I wouldn't be forced to take stormraiders. So now that I think about it I'm full welcome for them reworking it. Thanks for letting me think about galio so much I came to a realization lol.

i was actually pretty surprised galio didnt get changed some. They buffed him recently, but he really needs more changes.

Yah, hes just extremely outdated and needs a full rework.

Hullabaloo9071 votes

Not a full rework. More like what they did with maokai.

I like his ult and his W but the rest of his abilities could use a change. Also his the fact that he is a melee auto attacker seems wrong, I personally feel like he should be ranged but thats just me. He also could use a visual update IMO because he looks more silly than cool

Hullabaloo9071 votes

his e is pretty cool as well. the speed boost is pretty unique.

The real problem is that he is a tank, but his ult is his only initiation and hard cc, so he cant really be an effective tank. People build him damage, but it always seems kind of silly

Same reason Yorick and Singed got ignored during the juggernaut update.

They hate him.

cuddlykitten42 votes

Rito knows not to chase Singed

cuddlykitten41 votes

Every time they try to, Karthus ults the update team and then they have to wait a week to respawn. It's not that they aren't trying, they just aren't getting very far after he equipped the item 3089 and item 3026

Officially, they say he's already a pretty unique champion that does a lot of cool stuff, so they rather buff him than rework him. Of course that doesn't explain why they nerfed his wall, but there could just be some balance changes snuck into the mid-year update, or in the subsequent patches once they see how Karthus deals with the itemization changes.

The problem is so many abilities counter his ult and make it completely useless.

It's really just Kindred, Bard, and Taric (moreover, you have to be in the AoE; Karthus' ult is global). Soraka's been in the game forever. So have Kayle, Tryndamere, and Zhonyas. The thing about Karthus ult is that it has no counterplay otherwise; it's a targeted, global spell that hits everyone on the enemy team whether he has vision or not. It's an absurdly powerful spell. You either have something that hard counters him or you just have to hope you're at high enough health/have a shield or something that will let you survive. There's no in-between, no way to dodge the spell, no way to even get out of range of the spell.

Karthus' ult is so central to his kit that a meaningful rework would have to fundamentally change how it interacts with the game. The mid-year update is just medium sized work, meant to better differentiate champions. Karthus is already very unique as a champion.

So. Either you do smaller changes, which they're probably waiting to see how he interacts with the itemization changes to buff/nerf him, or you do a large scale rework, where there is a long line of champions with bigger issues than Karthus.

Karthus and Galio are DEFINITELY not weak, just look at their play in Korea and their win rates in Korea.

Quepha1 votes

Karthus isn't weak, has a pretty solid niche, and already stands apart from every other mage with his own unique flair.

Galio is more tank than mage so it doesn't make sense to include him in the update, also they probably want to make changes to him that are too large to fit into a class update.
