Possible change? Maybe some mana regeneration item changes as well?

Most mana using mid laners have 525+ range and some sort of AA enhancer. Manaless champions are generally melee and don't have amazing laning.
If you really have a hard time maybe you should consider starting Crystalline Flask or asking for Blue Buff.
