Every time Riot nerfs Soraka, the way they do it encourages her to play even more passively.

With the release of the recent W changes you guys might have completely killed off Q max Soraka. Since W is significantly worse at lower ranks there is just more incentive to max W which means a weaker Q that has far less incentive to go for.

People hate Soraka because she is considered too passive, don't nerf aggressive playstyles in the process of just generically cutting down her winrate. Next thing I know you'll just start lowering her AP ratios and then eventually giving her more base hp to counteract the severe winrate dip.

Uh... Soraka is the most passive champ in the game next to Janna... I don't think Riot intended for her to be played as an offensive/damage champ at all. If people don't want to play passive then they are definitely not meant for Soraka :|

AsphodelNext3 votes

But they also wanted her not to be passive; that's why they gave her self healing when she hits Q's and made her health cost on W so high.

I think Soraka is currently an aggressive, non-damage champ. Yes, you can sit in the back, but you are rewarded for taking risks, not with damage but with healing and move speed that you can pass on to your ADC. Another thing is that Soraka's ADC is also encouraged to be aggressive, since Soraka is there to heal them if they need it and they're always near full health due to the healing so there's little risk.

The OP is saying that Riot's issue with her has always been that she has been too rewarded for playing with no risks. She basically takes laning phase and eliminates everything that isn't a 4+ man tower dive. Which is why her mini rework nerfed down a bunch of her ranges and gave her incentive to hit Q's on people before healing. Riot has made it clear that they want to make Soraka have to take risks to get rewards rather than doing absolutely nothing.

However at the same time they have made a bunch of changes that directly contradict that ideal they are working towards. They are basically forcing her to max W now, they removed her reward from hitting multiple people, or even from trying to hit enemies with the center of her Q. This means that she is being given no incentive to get any closer to enemies than she has to, unlike before where a good Soraka would try to move a bit closer to get a center Q hit or to try getting multiple enemies.

Rather than a W nerf I think it would be a lot healther to nerf her Q regen, but to make each enemy hit give it's own stack with it's own timer. So if you hit 5 people you would be getting a ton of health regen, but hitting one person grants less than before. This would not only nerf her overbearing lane nullification, but clearly make her more late game teamfight oriented, which is what she should really be geared towards.

I'm tired of people saying that Soraka is a no-risk champ, and that Soraka players are 'doing absolutely nothing'. Many people think that she's got endless heals like she's some second fountain, but they are very wrong; if she intends to keep her adc at high health with only heals, Soraka's health tank will run out VERY fast unless she lands some Q's, and let me tell you, they are not easy to land unless she gets into the range of the enemy adc. The people complaining about her large sustain just don't know how to dodge her Q, choose to ignore her Q because it doesn't do dmg, or don't know how to trade when she comes in to Q.

Sure, if you max Q you will get more regen for your heals, but your heals will be so weak you'll have to be going back in for another Q very soon. You'd also be wasting your skill upgrade points on increasing her Q damage, which is close to useless on support Soraka. You'd be much better off investing in your actual heals, which is what will sustain your lane partner.

Just fyi I do play a fair bit of Soraka. She might not be my most played support, but I do still use her a decent amount.

I understand that she isn't just infinite healing, in fact I really dislike the way her healing design feels since the mini-rework. However my biggest issue with Soraka is that if you are playing safe and your adc is playing safe, in 80% of matchups you never need to hit Q. Your flat health regen plus talisman, crappy though Raka's health per 5 may be, can be more than enough by itself with a health pot or two. On top of that Soraka's skill cap was straight up reduced in her mini-rework.

People complain about how she takes no risks and has infinite healing, both of which are false, however it IS true that Riot's mini rework made her more braindead. She might not be AS safe, or heal as much while playing safe, but she sure as hell is a lot more braindead.

I never claimed that she was a braindead champ and I don't feel that way at all, Soraka players have a lot of micromanaging that they have to do and I respect that. I am complaining about how Riot is trying to steer her in one direction, a good one imo because while she does take risks with an adc like Sivir or Ezreal she can sit in lane and never have to land a Q, but at the same time Riot is nerfing/shifting around her power in ways that undermine a Soraka player's skill.

If you notice my arguments were for an overall nerf, which she did need, but a buff in situations where she plays well. While I agree that Soraka should generally max W, the mini rework gave her the option of maxing, or at least putting some points into, Q. If you are vs a poke ADC and they have a low damage support like Janna, maxing Q is a valid option because base heal + increased Q regen is the best for dealing with poke if you can get occasional Q's off. The update however nerfs W so hard early that you are forced to max it even if you don't need it because the cd is so long that if you do get ganked you can't rely on a lv 1 W heal anymore. On top of that where as before Soraka could teamfight with 3 points in Q and 3 in W, the increased cd means that you have to max W.

It isn't a matter of W being the best general max, it is the fact that the nerf means that you are all but FORCED to max W. That is bad and goes against Riot's policy of keeping open builds for champs. Riot has stated that they want champs to be playable in different ways, but this W nerf is so severe early on a core skill that you can't delay leveling it up.

The most recent nerf does nothing to help the identity Riot is trying to build for Soraka and is instead pushing her into a mold that has already been shown many times to be unhealthy. They clearly were trying to push some of Soraka's power into her Q, which was quite a good idea imo, and what they are doing now is just screwing that over.

I miss back pre-rework when her heal was substantial, but on a decently long cooldown. Made me have to actually think before just mindlessly topping off my ADC, and gave the enemy a window in which all I could do was wave my moonstick aggressively if they all-in'ed us.

Back in the day pre - rework i used to jungle her. I called it "ganking in reverse".

Autoclear jungle at full hp -> Show up at losing lanes, throw down wards and heals -> repeat.

Why the hell not? The only thing more braindead than soraka is janna, these are easily the two champs who's decision making is so insanely dumbed down they aren't even anywhere close to any other champion in their potential to outplay/mess up, they are just something which is there, pretty much items.

Soraka players have a lot of micromanaging that they have to do and I respect that.

No they don't and I have 0 respect for soraka and janna players, these champions take mechanical 0 skill, 0 decision making, 0 map awareness, they are fucking faceroll trash. And I've played both of them a decent amount.

There is a difference between just playing a champion and actually understanding a champion. LoL as a game, regardless of what champ you are playing, requires skill. Saying otherwise just shows that you have no understanding of all the things a good League player has to keep track of.

A couple examples of things that I have to be aware of while playing Soraka:

  • Watch the map and allies to know when to ult.

  • Having to use one of the 3? ground targeted AOE skillshots that has a delayed move time based on how far away you are.

  • A silence that has to be chained with other people's cc/enemy cast times to be effective, something that is actually pretty tricky to pull off.

  • Being a squishy target who gets more focus by every champ than an ADC gets focused by Rengar.

  • Being a squishy focused target who has no mobility AND having to sacrifice health to be useful, making you even easier to kill.

  • Being a squishy support who needs to stick near carries to be effective/stay alive while also having to go out by yourself and ward.

A couple of examples of things I have to be aware of while playing Janna: (I don't actually play a ton of her)

  • Using anything but E will burn your mana to the ground

  • Her Q is one of the more annoying skillshots to land if you aren't point blanking it or running away.

  • Positioning yourself in fights so that your low targets can run away faster, while also staying near your AD carries to shield them.

  • Trying to decide whether to shield the target getting attacked to reduced the dmg they are taking or to shield an AD carry to give them damage to kill the attacker faster.

  • Knowing whether burst is going to kill a target or if you can save your shield for after that so they can get the AD boost.

  • An ult that leaves you very exposed and can easily save enemies if used badly

  • Being a squishy support who needs to stick near carries to be effective/stay alive while also having to go out by yourself and ward.

They might not be the most mechanically complex champions, but they do take skill to use well. There is a reason you almost never see Jannas below Gold. She has a pretty steep learning curve. The reason Janna players do good is because she has one of the highest consistent player bases. She currently ranks at no. 11 for the average number of games on her.

Janna and Soraka players also have the lowest average kills and gold per game, which means that they are always struggling for items.

Don't just say a champ requires no skill just because they aren't mechanically intense. Game knowledge and knowing when and how best to use your champion are vastly more important than raw mechanical skill. Some great LCS players aren't actually that mechanically amazing. Sure they are better than me, but in comparison to a lot of high level players there are some pretty crappy players in LCS. However these players more than make up for their lack of #LCSBIGPLAYS mechanics with their game knowledge.

Knowing how best to do something is an important skill, and is essential for every champ. I might not be able to play Zed, because my mechanics suck, but I have never done a Scarra ward. Ever.

Not if you are playing soraka and janna, and that comes from someone who plays them. Their decision making is so fucking dumbed down you need to fucking suck horribly to not make the most out of their kits.

Saying otherwise just shows that you have no understanding of all the things a good League player has to keep track of.

Maybe when you get out of the shit that is silver into a tier which actually has some good players in it you'd understand that this isn't true for all champs.

Stop making a bunch of insanely trivial things into rocket science.

They might not be the most mechanically complex champions, but they do take skill to use well.

No, they don't. Look I'm fine with no/low mechincal skill, plenty of champions are in that spot, thing about raka and janna is there nothing else there either, there's isn't very meaningful choice in skill usage, there's not much risk as your kit allows you to position behind your carries without sacrificing anything, and despite what a lot of idiots might think: no, running past the carries to kill the support is not a good idea, meaning you are under minimal risk.

There is a reason you almost never see Jannas below Gold. She has a pretty steep learning curve. The reason Janna players do good is because she has one of the highest consistent player bases. She currently ranks at no. 11 for the average number of games on her.

The reason you don't see much janna's below gold is a couple of reasons.

  1. She's really lame, she's more of an item than a champion, a strong item, but not an actual player.
  2. People in gold seek glory more than in other elos, and there's no glory in playing an item.
  3. People there aren't as willing to sell their soul for elo yet, they will play op champs because these get kills, but they won't play an op item.

You speak about janna's below gold, how about you ask some support mains in diamond+ how much skill this champion takes.

Most faceroll trash in this game(soraka is a close second).

Janna and Soraka players also have the lowest average kills and gold per game, which means that they are always struggling for items.

Who needs gold when you have elo?

Don't just say a champ requires no skill just because they aren't mechanically intense.

I specifically said "No they don't and I have 0 respect for soraka and janna players, these champions take mechanical 0 skill, 0 decision making, 0 map awareness, they are fucking faceroll trash." It would be fine if it was just mechanical skill they weren't lacking, but that's not the case.

Game knowledge and knowing when and how best to use your champion are vastly more important than raw mechanical skill. Some great LCS players aren't actually that mechanically amazing. Except that both for janna and soraka, decision making and positioning are made trivial by their kits, as they allow them to fully utilize them while sitting behind carries, only getting closer when there's no risk from enemies.

Welp clearly you are completely set on your close minded way of thinking. If you think playing a support, any support, takes 0 map awareness then you are just being stupid. Other than maybe the jgler, supports take the most map awareness in the game because as a support I take it as part of my job to alert my team to every enemy map movement. If I don't see the enemy jgler move over a ward and tell my team where they are I take that as a personal failure. It doesn't matter what I am playing.

Soraka especially takes the most map awareness because of her global ult.

Welp clearly you are completely set on your close minded way of thinking.

Has it ever occurred to you that you are the one here who is close mined? I know what I'm talking about, I know both the support role and the game in general much better than you, and yet you assume that since we are arguing you are right by default? How arrogant exactly are you? Don't want to take my word for it? Ask any support main in diamond+(just not a soraka/janna main, so he won't be biased, though hell, chances are even he will be aware of it) about it. But let me guess, you know better, right?

If you think playing a support, any support, takes 0 map awareness then you are just being stupid.

I didn't say "any support", I repeatedly single out janna and soraka, stop putting words in my mouth.

Not when you are sitting behind your carry spamming shields/heals on him.

Sounds great on paper, in practice the opportunities for meaningful ults are rare enough you wouldn't be giving up much even if you miss them.

I didn't say "any support", I repeatedly single out janna and soraka, stop putting words in my mouth.

Except that I wasn't saying that you said that. By saying either Janna or Soraka take no map awareness then you are saying there is a support that doesn't take map awareness. This is just silly. If you think you can play League well, regardless of champion, without map awareness then you are just being silly. Map awareness is a highly important skill in League regardless of the champion you are playing, and that includes THE GUY IN CHARGE OF WARDING the most.

Not when you are sitting behind your carry spamming shields/heals on him.

A 10 second CD is not spammable, and if you think a good Janna just blindly spams shields then you don't know how to play Janna well. I would argue that Janna has the most nuanced shield in the game because it only properly buffs while it lasts, and the buff it gives is a massive chunk of the power behind her shield.

Sounds great on paper, in practice the opportunities for meaningful ults are rare enough you wouldn't be giving up much even if you miss them.

I am honestly unsure of what to say here. If you think that a long cd ult that has global presence and most importantly only heals well when allies are below 40% isn't meaningful then you are just being silly. Her ult is all about waiting for allies to get low enough but not letting them get burst before you can ult, something that requires watching fights all over the map and knowing the dps, burst, and cds of every enemy on every one of your allies.

Finally, yes. I do consider that I might be being stubborn and close minded. That is actually something I put a lot of thought into while writing because I know it is something that I tend to have issues with. At the same time however you have yet to say anything to make me change my mind on any of these subjects. I have given my reasoning behind the reasons I don't see Soraka and Janna as faceroll champions. I have explicitly spelled out the different nuances in their kits and the things they have to keep track of. You just say those things aren't true.

I am fine with you stating your opinion. That is your right and I respect it. If you think Soraka and Janna are faceroll no skill champions that require no map awareness go ahead and think that way. However, if you are going to try and have an educated discussion on the topic with me, at least try to bring some shred of evidence to bear. Saying they don't require map awareness is completely meaningless. If you can't say WHY they require no map awareness then it isn't even an argument. I understand people aren't exactly versed in argument as a general course. However I am telling you now that a point is meaningless without evidence to back it up in a discussion, so from here on out I am not going to make any efforts to respond to anything you bring up that you aren't supporting in some way. If you do bring up an actual point then I will do my best to respond with my view, opinion, and evidence for it. That is how a discussion is performed.

Anyways, have a good day.

So you look at the minimap while warding, such much awareness, wow. The whole difficulty with map awareness is to pay attention to enemy positions while you are doing something else, like csing, or trading, or trying to avoid being poked/jumped on by the enemy support/adc, when you are sitting behind your carry there's no difficulty here, you aren't doing anything else, it's not just that, let's say that you just looking at the minimap only when warding, it's not like your lane will play any differently, you sit behind your carry and disengage if he gets jumped on, soraka and janna don't need map awareness(outside of when they are warding, which is the most trivial thing ever, as there's nothing else to pay attention to) because their playstyle doesn't differ based on pressure, they are items, and neither bf nor giant's belt change their playstyle under different circumstances, and nor do janna or soraka.

A 10 second CD is not spammable,

Considering that its max cd and janna will get cdr+6 sec duration, it's VERY VERY spammable.

and if you think a good Janna just blindly spams shields then you don't know how to play Janna well.

And yet my janna is 3 leagues above yours, I wonder what you are doing then.

I would argue that Janna has the most nuanced shield in the game because it only properly buffs while it lasts, and the buff it gives is a massive chunk of the power behind her shield.

Not really, you just throw it every time something happens, so in lane if the adc is attacking or being attacked you throw it on him, in a teamfight if someone is being bursted throw it on him, otherwise throw it on the adc, such skill, much complexity.

What happens is every time you throw your ult somewhere else on the map here's what happens, first of all your lane opponents know that your ult is down, and theirs are probably up, and that it's gonna stay that way for a long period of time which gives them a serious advantage, on top of that other laners have higher levels and if they get kills in lane chances are it involves either a gank, ignite or both, meaning there's a good chance you'll be ulting for nothing, on top of that outright looking at how fights are going while laning is pretty taxing and the final result is that if you don't bother with it(unless you are staring at a fight while walking to lane, then there's no risk), between all the risks and rewards, you just end up not missing much.

As I've said, it sounds great on paper, it's just not how this ult works out.

Finally, yes. I do consider that I might be being stubborn and close minded. That is actually something I put a lot of thought into while writing because I know it is something that I tend to have issues with. At the same time however you have yet to say anything to make me change my mind on any of these subjects.

It's impossible, you are just too insistent and you don't want to see the obvious, this is exactly like those "every champ is op threads", where if you describe things to emphasis strengths and ignore weaknesses every champ sounds strong, yet plenty are crap and a good chunk are op, and in the same way every champion can be claimed to demand skill, even if they really don't.

I have given my reasoning behind the reasons I don't see Soraka and Janna as faceroll champions. I have explicitly spelled out the different nuances in their kits and the things they have to keep track of. You just say those things aren't true.

That's because they aren't true.

I am fine with you stating your opinion.

I don't think you understand the scenario, this "opinion" of mine is basically accepted by nearly any support main in the higher elos, as far as knowledge in this game goes it's pretty much a fact, this is just you being arrogant and refusing to listen to anyone but yourself(as I keep saying, if you don't want to take my word for it ask any support main in diamond+), you say you are trying not to be closed mined, yet you avoid any scenario where you can be convinced of a different opinion, you are adamant in your misperception of the situation and won't listen to anyone telling you otherwise.

That is your right and I respect it. If you think Soraka and Janna are faceroll no skill champions that require no map awareness go ahead and think that way. However, if you are going to try and have an educated discussion on the topic with me, at least try to bring some shred of evidence to bear.

I keep doing that, you just automatically dismiss it.

Saying they don't require map awareness is completely meaningless. If you can't say WHY they require no map awareness then it isn't even an argument.

Again, I keep telling you, they just sit behind their carries, it's their carries who need map awareness, not them.

Speaking of which, this scenario is classic, everything you say is some amazing argument that supports your opinion(even though I've already explained why you are just exaggerating and that those things are either meaningless or extremely easy to perform), yet everything I say is invalid cause you easily and falsely dismiss it.

Clearly you don't realize how aggressive a Janna can be while the enemy jgler isn't on her side of the map. A good Janna can easily harass so long as she pays attention to the enemies around the map. So yes, she does require map awareness. On top of that you are missing a number of things I look for while watching the map. A good support is looking for every ward dropped on the map and memorizing where they are and when they will time out. It doesn't matter what champ you are playing, being able to do that isn't easy, especially when it is your job to go clear out the most important wards, not the closest ones.

On top of that when you are fighting in lane playing ADC requires a lot of concentration. It is one of the most mechanically heavy roles and as such it falls on the support to watch the map and keep the ADC updated on info while helping them fight.

Considering that its max cd and janna will get cdr+6 sec duration, it's VERY VERY spammable.

Watch most teamfights, they don't usually last very long. A 6 second cooldown ability means that you might get it off 3 times in an average fight as opposed to the two times a normal ability can be used. On top of that as I mentioned Janna and Soraka are the two most gold starved champions in the game. As such it is harder for them to hit that 40% cdr, especially when 800 gold goes into a sightstone. I wouldn't call that spammy.

Not really, you just throw it every time something happens, so in lane if the adc is attacking or being attacked you throw it on him, in a teamfight if someone is being bursted throw it on him, otherwise throw it on the adc, such skill, much complexity.

Which once again, shows that you don't put much thought into playing Janna. I gave a bunch of the variables one can consider when using Janna shield. You just said you don't use any of those. That clearly shows your Janna play could improve now doesn't it?

It's impossible, you are just too insistent and you don't want to see the obvious, this is exactly like those "every champ is op threads", where if you describe things to emphasis strengths and ignore weaknesses every champ sounds strong, yet plenty are crap and a good chunk are op, and in the same way every champion can be claimed to demand skill, even if they really don't.

Funny, because your argument sounds exactly the same. You emphasize their OP qualities and ignore any skill that goes into playing them. That sounds absolutely no different from all the Yasuo/Zed QQ no skill champs threads out there.

However at the same time that is part of the point of arguments. Arguments are kinda useless if both people don't push the extremes of their sides the same amount. You are only exploring one extreme side of the spectrum, so as the one supporting the opposing argument I have to do the same to keep the argument on equal ground.

I am actually very interested in having my mind changed. I love it when people can convince me that I am wrong because it means that I am learning. However I am not about to let my mind be changed by something that I am not convinced is right. I also love the connections that get built between people as they argue, they are very intriguing to me. As such I have no interest in what others have to say, I want to listen to YOU.

I keep doing that, you just automatically dismiss it.

Actually this is the first comment in which you actually explained your views. You other comments were just stating them. That being said your arguments in this comment are, for the most part, very clear and well written out. I appreciate it.

Again, I keep telling you, they just sit behind their carries, it's their carries who need map awareness, not them.

(Just saying, you never said those two things together. You said them individually, but you never mentioned those things in tandem together.)

Ok, so this is a big point. I actually like it a lot. However, as I mentioned in a response above, in a fight the carry has a lot of mechanics to keep track of. As such I believe it is a support's job, as having less mechanical requirements, to be the one paying the most attention to the map as well as gauging how the fight is going. There is a reason supports and jglers tend to be the team shotcallers in high level play, and it is because they have less mechanical load. As such they are the best suited for telling their carry when to go in, back off, and warn them about incoming threats.

I would also say that Janna really doesn't need to always stand behind the ADC. She has enough poke, harass, and escape/safety to be able to mess with the enemy carry/support early on.

Speaking of which, this scenario is classic, everything you say is some amazing argument that supports your opinion(even though I've already explained why you are just exaggerating and that those things are either meaningless or extremely easy to perform), yet everything I say is invalid cause you easily and falsely dismiss it.

Not that what you are trying to say is invalid, but comments like "Sounds great on paper, in practice the opportunities for meaningful ults are rare enough you wouldn't be giving up much even if you miss them.", "Not if you are playing soraka and janna, and that comes from someone who plays them. Their decision making is so fucking dumbed down you need to fucking suck horribly to not make the most out of their kits.", and "No they don't and I have 0 respect for soraka and janna players, these champions take mechanical 0 skill, 0 decision making, 0 map awareness, they are fucking faceroll trash. And I've played both of them a decent amount." are not arguments. They are opinions.

I am willing to listen to opinions, and I am willing to discuss arguments. I am not however, willing to discuss opinions. If there isn't a clearly spelled out and explained reason behind what you are saying then I dimply don't feel the need to invalidate it because it is already invalid in a real discussion.

And yet my janna is 3 leagues above yours, I wonder what you are doing then.

Yup. I am trash, garbage, shit in a pit. I know, and I accept this. I am not good at games. I am a thinker, but I don't have any mechanical skill to back it up. I can't play ADC, not because I can't CS, which I am actually pretty damn good at, but because I am the guy who clicks next to the Jax instead of on them and proceed to die as I walk into the enemy team. On top of that I have a very delayed processing time. Not reactions speed, I do fencing and that takes plenty of it, but even though I know I need to flash that Ahri charm it is already half way to me before I realize it. Lastly my eyes are very light sensitive, so my screen is always somewhat blurry. To me there is no difference between League on medium and high quality because it is all slightly blurred.

I also get overly excited in close fights and my hand often starts to jitter a bit and I can't click accurately.

I also don't play a ton of Janna. I just don't find the champion to be super enjoyable to play. I like her kit, it is cool and fun, but I prefer tanky supports more as a whole. I make mistakes and I get punished for them, so I play tankier champs so that the punishment doesn't matter as much.

I am terrible from a mechanical standpoint, but I am good at what I do. That is knowing what fights can be taken. My bot lane rarely gets into fights that could be avoided where we don't come out on top. It is my real skill, knowing just how much damage, tankiness, and kill pressure every champion has in the game into just about any other champion, regardless of build. I know the scalings of champions I have never played because I am a total nerd who enjoys reading up on numbers.

So yeah, I have 0 mechanical skill and my composure in large fights is terrible. I accept this, and I understand it. Is it the only thing that limits me? Of course not. There are a ton of areas I am terrible at. However I am not stupid. I have a strong understanding of how champions work and what makes them vary between weak and strong. I can easily pull up my match history from when I was playing a ton of Urgot and Viktor a short while before they became big picks in the LCS because I recognized that they were strong at the time. I am good at thinking about decision making skills because that is the only place I can see myself improving in.

However if anything this just proves my point more. If Janna and Soraka take no mechanical skill, and mechanical skill is what is limiting me the most, then clearly they take some mechanics don't they?

Clearly you don't realize how aggressive a Janna can be while the enemy jgler isn't on her side of the map. A good Janna can easily harass so long as she pays attention to the enemies around the map. So yes, she does require map awareness.

Look, I think there's something you are forgetting, specifically that I'm a diamond support main who plays janna quite a lot, is my janna perfect? no, but it works, and pretty damn well.

There's no sense, your range is too low to actually aggressively trade with other ranged supports, and your damage isn't high enough to stick to tanks, you just end up taking risks which aren't worth taking, you just throw shield on your carry if he gets poked or is trading, disengage if he gets jumped on and start autoattacking if there's a trade going on, the way janna's risks/rewards work is that the most braindead way to play the champion is unfortunately also the best way to play it.

On top of that when you are fighting in lane playing ADC requires a lot of concentration. It is one of the most mechanically heavy roles and as such it falls on the support to watch the map and keep the ADC updated on info while helping them fight.

Not so much when your support isn't really trying to do anything, but you can keep an eye on the map instead of doing nothing if you really want to, but good adcs are used to multitasking.

Lasting long=/=not being spammable, you just throw it on your carry every time it's up, you don't put thought into it, you don't think where's the right time, you just throw it every time it's off cd, aka spam it.

Which once again, shows that you don't put much thought into playing Janna.

IT'S JANNA, I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO. For fucks sake it's my main champ as far as ranked is concerned, the best way to play her is also the most braindead way to play her.

I gave a bunch of the variables one can consider when using Janna shield. You just said you don't use any of those. That clearly shows your Janna play could improve now doesn't it?

No, because you didn't. You didn't name a single variable, all you said is it has a "large"(no it doesn't) cd, that's it. That's nothing to consider, you just use it every time it's off cd on the most obvious target(I don't need to add "during a fight" right?).

Funny, because your argument sounds exactly the same. You emphasize their OP qualities and ignore any skill that goes into playing them. That sounds absolutely no different from all the Yasuo/Zed QQ no skill champs threads out there.

I think they mostly call them obnoxious, but anyway, yes it would look that way to you, get better and you'll see it my way, or just ask someone else.

However at the same time that is part of the point of arguments. Arguments are kinda useless if both people don't push the extremes of their sides the same amount. You are only exploring one extreme side of the spectrum, so as the one supporting the opposing argument I have to do the same to keep the argument on equal ground.

What extreme side? I'm taking middle ground here, this is like the most common opinion in higher elo, I'm a moderate as far as opinions on janna/soraka go.

The issue is that it's often comes down to me(and a lot of other people) seeing something as trivial whereas others see it as complex, but it doesn't just mean a difference of perspective, the notion that janna is faceroll is too common, especially around support mains to be that way, I'm also fairly sure that the notion that soraka and janna are faceroll originates from support players, hell I do my best to promote it, afking should not be a viable playstyle, the whole "enchanter identity" is crap.

Actually this is the first comment in which you actually explained your views. You other comments were just stating them. That being said your arguments in this comment are, for the most part, very clear and well written out. I appreciate it.

(Just saying, you never said those two things together. You said them individually, but you never mentioned those things in tandem together.)

As I've said before, risk>reward, you are just better off not doing that.

They are opinions.

Held by pretty much anyone in the higher elos.

I am willing to listen to opinions, and I am willing to discuss arguments. I am not however, willing to discuss opinions.

Thing is lol isn't math, we don't have strict rules and definitions and as such pretty much anything will look like an opinion, let's put it this way: janna and soraka being faceroll trash is pretty much as much an opinion as prerework kass being crazy overpowered.

I do the same thing, my adc is absolute trash, now I'm fairly sure that would eventually improve with practice, but I have no intention to do that.

On top of that I have a very delayed processing time. Not reactions speed, I do fencing and that takes plenty of it, but even though I know I need to flash that Ahri charm it is already half way to me before I realize it.

I'm pretty sure most people do that in a sense, what you do is you need to expect her to do it then react to her animation, ofc that only works if you can expect her to do it.

I also don't play a ton of Janna. I just don't find the champion to be super enjoyable to play. I like her kit, it is cool and fun, but I prefer tanky supports more as a whole. I make mistakes and I get punished for them, so I play tankier champs so that the punishment doesn't matter as much.

Janna isn't about fun, Janna as a champion is enchanter trash, it's about elo, that's the problem with your janna and why you think she's hard, you are trying to have fun, that's not how you play janna/soraka.(I'm not kidding, having fun on janna gets you killed)

I am terrible from a mechanical standpoint, but I am good at what I do. That is knowing what fights can be taken.

What does a mechanically good support even look like? We don't have crap like yasuo or riven, we don't have stupid animation cancerls, you just need to know when to poke and when to fight, just like the average champion.

My bot lane rarely gets into fights that could be avoided where we don't come out on top. I hate to disappoint you, but this is basically diamond material, you are missing something.

So yeah, I have 0 mechanical skill and my composure in large fights is terrible. I accept this, and I understand it. Is it the only thing that limits me? Of course not. As I've said before, the problem isn't mechanical skill, they take no skill. No mechanical, no decision making, no map awareness(I mean they do pay attention to the minimap, it's just not much of a skill when they aren't doing anything else), their positioning is trivialized as well.

They just have a really obvious way of approaching pretty much any scenario, their decision making(all of it) is highly dumbed down, that's the problem.

Not so much when your support isn't really trying to do anything, but you can keep an eye on the map instead of doing nothing if you really want to, but good adcs are used to multitasking.

I fail to see how the allied Janna has an effect on this. The ADC still has to do just as much and due to how mechanically intensive ADC is that means that the support still has to watch the map. On top of this you have no way of knowing if your ADC is watching the map so you have to do it anyways.

No, because you didn't. You didn't name a single variable, all you said is it has a "large"(no it doesn't) cd, that's it. That's nothing to consider, you just use it every time it's off cd on the most obvious target(I don't need to add "during a fight" right?)

Except that I did. I specifically mentioned that it is a shield that works best after burst is used, but only if the target can survive the burst. It is also a question of the best person to put it on because if you stick it on an AD carry who is not being targeted it can dramatically boost their damage output. So yes, that is a number of variables to keep track of and consider.

What extreme side? I'm taking middle ground here, this is like the most common opinion in higher elo, I'm a moderate as far as opinions on janna/soraka go.

I have had moderate discussions about topics. You are at about a 9 out of 10 on the scale. Calm is not your middle name.

As I've said before, risk>reward, you are just better off not doing that.

Really? Because you specifically state that Janna doesn't need to care in any way about positioning. That is directly contradictory to saying she is at risk because she is bullying the enemies off cs.

Thing is lol isn't math, we don't have strict rules and definitions and as such pretty much anything will look like an opinion, let's put it this way: janna and soraka being faceroll trash is pretty much as much an opinion as prerework kass being crazy overpowered.

(Yes it is. Like seriously, LoL is 100% math. It is a game run by computers, it is composed of on and off states. Everything about League is math.)

What does a mechanically good support even look like? We don't have crap like yasuo or riven, we don't have stupid animation cancerls, you just need to know when to poke and when to fight, just like the average champion.

You don't animation cancel as a support? K. I don't really know what to say to that. Like, seriously, how did you get so high if you don't even know how to maximize your damage? And you think supports don't take mechanical skill at all? You are just crazy.

I hate to disappoint you, but this is basically diamond material, you are missing something.

Exactly, I do what I am good at on a much higher level than others around me, as such it is clearly my mechanics holding me back the most. As such supports clearly take mechanical skill otherwise I would rise more now wouldn't I?

As I've said before, the problem isn't mechanical skill, they take no skill. No mechanical, no decision making, no map awareness(I mean they do pay attention to the minimap, it's just not much of a skill when they aren't doing anything else), their positioning is trivialized as well. They just have a really obvious way of approaching pretty much any scenario, their decision making(all of it) is highly dumbed down, that's the problem.

Now this. See, my issues isn't with you saying that Soraka/Janna take little mechanical skill and that they don't have much decision making. It is saying that they have none. If, theoretically, they actually took none. I could write one line of code that plays Soraka just as well as I could. It would say something like "If ADC is below X health, use W on them."

That doesn't include positioning, watching the map, or even moving if the adc is above X health. That Soraka would stand still all game until their ADC fell below a certain amount of health, then they would walk all the way over to them, health them, and stand still again.

You are saying that every Soraka player does that. That is what no decision making is. That is what no map awareness is. That is what no mechanical skill is. It is "If X, Y" and nothing else.

I am not trying to say Soraka or Janna are the new Yasuo or whatever. However you still need to think while playing them, you still need map awareness, and you still need some mechanical skill.

On top of this you have no way of knowing if your ADC is watching the map so you have to do it anyways.

It's a lot easier for him when aggression is lower, adcing is a lot easier if you don't need to constantly keep up with things your support is trying to set up.

Except that I did. I specifically mentioned that it is a shield that works best after burst is used, but only if the target can survive the burst. It is also a question of the best person to put it on because if you stick it on an AD carry who is not being targeted it can dramatically boost their damage output. No, you're still better off not testing if the guy will die or not(also if he will lose a lot of hp he will be reluctant to rejoin the fight), so if someone is being bursted you throw it on him, if not you throw it on the adc every time it's off cd, so nothing to keep track of.

So no, you just consider it variables, but it's not how things play out.

I have had moderate discussions about topics. You are at about a 9 out of 10 on the scale. Calm is not your middle name.

For these boards? My reactions are still pretty moderate. Regarding this discussion? I'm actually calm all things considered, you will probably see it my way eventually, once you get good enough.

Really? Because you specifically state that Janna doesn't need to care in any way about positioning. That is directly contradictory to saying she is at risk because she is bullying the enemies off cs.

There are a lot of ways to make the game harder by doing things you shouldn't be doing, if you play janna like you should she's faceroll, if you put yourself in stupid scenarios because of a wrong approach, it's gonna be hard for you to get yourself out of them, but that doesn't change anything.

(Yes it is. Like seriously, LoL is 100% math. It is a game run by computers, it is composed of on and off states. Everything about League is math.)

Prove to me that prerework kass was op then, or reworked skarner, go ahead, don't be shy.

You don't animation cancel as a support? K. I don't really know what to say to that.

When I'm talking animation cancerls I'm talking more about yasuo hiding his q or riven skipping her animations.

Like, seriously, how did you get so high if you don't even know how to maximize your damage?

Oh I have a lot of good replies to that:

  1. Just pick janna/soraka, no nothing required.
  2. diamond isn't good, it's just that things below it are fucking horrible. Not so much that I am high, as that others are low.

And you think supports don't take mechanical skill at all? You are just crazy.

It depends on what you view as mechanical skill, it's generally just viewed as things which require high apm, hitting hooks with thresh for example isn't mechanical skill(movement prediction falls either under game knowledge or decision making), and supports in general don't require much apm.

Exactly, I do what I am good at on a much higher level than others around me, as such it is clearly my mechanics holding me back the most. As such supports clearly take mechanical skill otherwise I would rise more now wouldn't I?

Unfortunately no, what actually happens is that you overestimate your game knowledge+decision making, you would rise easily if your only problem was mechanics(low diamond should be easy with shit mechanics but good everything else).

So keeping some minimal distance from your carry is now amazing skill? Honestly you can probably write a code for diamond level janna/soraka probably fairly easily if you had experience with AI, riot should try doing that, would be funny.

That doesn't include positioning, watching the map, or even moving if the adc is above X health. That Soraka would stand still all game until their ADC fell below a certain amount of health, then they would walk all the way over to them, health them, and stand still again.

Let me explain to you how to play soraka: push lane at level 1 so they won't get a level 2 power spike stay out of range of anything that might hit you, or behind creeps if they can block it if carry loses more hp than you can heal, heal him if he gets jumped on, q e the guy that jumps on him, proceed to kite back while healing and autoing if an enemy which is probably in that area of the map will jump on you when you are going to ward a place, don't do that. congrats, you are now diamond.

You are saying that every Soraka player does that. That is what no decision making is. That is what no map awareness is. That is what no mechanical skill is. It is "If X, Y" and nothing else.

No, every soraka doing the afk build, which is her strongest build does that, as I've said, you can make the game a lot harder by doing dumb shit that you shouldn't be doing.

I am not trying to say Soraka or Janna are the new Yasuo or whatever. However you still need to think while playing them, you still need map awareness, and you still need some mechanical skill.

Nope.

It's a lot easier for him when aggression is lower, adcing is a lot easier if you don't need to constantly keep up with things your support is trying to set up.

This is just silly. Janna is as capably of making plays as something like lulu. She might have to burn flashes to do it, but that does not mean she isn't capably of it. Before you say there isn't anything she can ever do keep in mind she has a very powerful knockback, a knockup, a slow, and an AD buff for their adc. That is more than enough to make plays if needed. You also still make no account for the fact that you have no way to know what your adc is and isn't doing, so you have to be aware of the map anyways.

I do actually consider this in fights. So there you go, clearly at least someone does think about it. Just because you don't doesn't mean that others don't take it into account.

Prove to me that prerework kass was op then, or reworked skarner, go ahead, don't be shy.

This has nothing to do with that statement. Computers run using math. LoL is run by computers. So yes, LoL is definitely 100% math. This isn't even something you can convince me on because it is factually wrong. I am a programmer, games, programs, and ultimately computers are, at their core, math.

When I'm talking animation cancerls I'm talking more about yasuo hiding his q or riven skipping her animations.

Which can be done by supports too. To list a few > Naut can hard cancel almost 70% of his first auto animation, either through input or movement commands. For reference, moving through a line of 3 people and attacking each once both canceling and not will cut the time down by almost half. Taric can cancel the end of his autos with his E and Q, but not his W because it has too long of a cast time and you actually lose out on time overall. This is why after stunning people with E your next ability used actually changes depending on a number of factors. If you want me to go into it I can but otherwise I am trying to cut this conversation into smaller topics because it is getting out of hand and keeps branching.

Oh I have a lot of good replies to that:

  1. Just pick janna/soraka, no nothing required.
  2. diamond isn't good, it's just that things below it are fucking horrible. Not so much that I am high, as that others are low.

Fun fact, the vast, vast majority of LoL players are Silver and below. As such you actually are decently high up.

Unfortunately no, what actually happens is that you overestimate your game knowledge+decision making, you would rise easily if your only problem was mechanics(low diamond should be easy with shit mechanics but good everything else).

Naw, I actually know my decision making isn't that good. That is why I duo with others who are better at making calls than I am. Also I do consistently rise, I just don't have time to play a ton these days and I prefer normals over ranked. For reference though when I actually decided to burn two days playing nothing but ranked spam I rose about a full division playing a champion I hadn't played very frequently.

It depends on what you view as mechanical skill, it's generally just viewed as things which require high apm, hitting hooks with thresh for example isn't mechanical skill(movement prediction falls either under game knowledge or decision making), and supports in general don't require much apm.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. However I will say that micromanagement most certainly falls under mechanical skill. It is the ability to process, store, and use many types of information and apply it to the situation. I would say that, for the most part, supports tend to be the most micromanagey role in LoL. Checking whether your Aegis Aura is hitting all your teamates, looking at every ability traveling out to pick out the important, and most importantly deadliest, cc so that you can Mikaels it, warding out bushes that enemies dive into for your scanner jungler/teamates who's wards are down/adc with a blue trinket.

Purely due to itemization supports have a lot to micromanage.

No, every soraka doing the afk build, which is her strongest build does that, as I've said, you can make the game a lot harder by doing dumb shit that you shouldn't be doing.

Just gonna quote this single comment because I feel like you didn't need to break it up into so many sections.

There is a difference between doing dumb shit and making the most use of what you are capably of. Soraka can do more than just afk heal. Is she the most effective at it? Maybe not, but you have a Soraka, not someone who is better at it.

It is the difference between doing the absolute minimum and having it be "Good enough" and actually making the most use of your skills. From the way you are talking about it it sounds like you only care about "Good enough"

Sure, Soraka/Janna can just do what you said and you know what? They aren't going to be terrible. However they are capably of doing more than that and providing more aid to their team and their team's chances of victory than that. That is true for every champion because it isn't based off a champion's abilities. It is based off their items, their ability to do any of the numerous small mechanics, and their ability to push the limits of their champion.

LoL, as a game, regardless of what champion you are playing, requires skill to play well. According to you because Janna/Soraka take 0 skill a bronze 5 Janna is going to be just as good as a Challenger one. That is, at the core, what you are arguing. You are saying there is no room to improve on Soraka and so long as you follow a few simple little steps they will be exactly as useful to their team regardless of the player's skill.

Before you say that I am putting words in your mouth I am not. Go read through exactly how you describe Soraka/Janna. You repeatedly insist that they require 0 skill. Not some skill, not a little skill, but absolutely 0 skill to play.

This is just silly. Janna is as capably of making plays as something like lulu.

No, she can't. Lulu's abilities have much more offensive potential than janna's, janna purely reacts to enemy plays, lulu can do some of her own.

She might have to burn flashes to do it, but that does not mean she isn't capably of it. Before you say there isn't anything she can ever do keep in mind she has a very powerful knockback,

Away from her, yes. Sure she can run at her enemy flash and ult him back, but that play is so highly telegraphed that she will only do it when it's extremely obvious that she can and should do it.

a knockup,

Which after the nerfs won't hit something instantly unless it's really close to you, it can be charged, but that gives time for enemies to back off, so again, very little offensive potential.

a slow,

Which slows her too, so she'll just use it to kite and peel.

and an AD buff for their adc.

So?

That is more than enough to make plays if needed.

It really isn't.

You also still make no account for the fact that you have no way to know what your adc is and isn't doing, so you have to be aware of the map anyways.

Again, not very demanding if you aren't doing anything else.

I do actually consider this in fights. So there you go, clearly at least someone does think about it. Just because you don't doesn't mean that others don't take it into account.

No, it's just like all of your assumptions about your skill level, you say that you have it, but you don't, you say that you are open minded, but you very much aren't, you say that you listen but your opinion trumps over everyone elses, there is no proof you'll accept if you disagree with something.

This has nothing to do with that statement. Computers run using math. LoL is run by computers. So yes, LoL is definitely 100% math. This isn't even something you can convince me on because it is factually wrong. I am a programmer, games, programs, and ultimately computers are, at their core, math.

So prove to me that prerework kass was op then, or reworked skarner, go ahead, don't be shy. I'm literally asking you to prove some of the most obvious facts ever to be in this game, if it really is possible to give precise mathlike proof in lol then either of those two should be easy.

Well these two aren't as meaningful as riven/yasuo cancerling animations, but there you go, your mechanics are better than mine, so now why do you think you're not diamond yet?

Fun fact, the vast, vast majority of LoL players are Silver and below. As such you actually are decently high up.

And >90% of people are complete idiots, what's your point? Just because there are a bunch of people who are really fucking bad at this game doesn't make me good.

Naw, I actually know my decision making isn't that good. That is why I duo with others who are better at making calls than I am. Also I do consistently rise, I just don't have time to play a ton these days and I prefer normals over ranked.

Not like I play/ed much ranked anyway, not like I want to play janna.

For reference though when I actually decided to burn two days playing nothing but ranked spam I rose about a full division playing a champion I hadn't played very frequently.

So reach diamond-> get used to playing people who aren't complete idiots-> realize that janna is completely braindead.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. However I will say that micromanagement most certainly falls under mechanical skill. It is the ability to process, store, and use many types of information and apply it to the situation. I would say that, for the most part, supports tend to be the most micromanagey role in LoL.

Checking whether your Aegis Aura is hitting all your teamates,

Nobody actually does that.

looking at every ability traveling out to pick out the important, and most importantly deadliest, cc so that you can Mikaels it,

Pretty much everyone does that, mages for zhonya's, adcs for qss, assassins to jump away from, I guess only tanks don't care, also many support just don't buy mikaels anyway, as it only fits a specific subset(even janna won't always get it).

warding out bushes that enemies dive into for your scanner jungler/teamates who's wards are down/adc with a blue trinket.

You almost never get a blue trinket on the support.

There is a difference between doing dumb shit and making the most use of what you are capably of. Soraka can do more than just afk heal. Is she the most effective at it? Maybe not, but you have a Soraka, not someone who is better at it.

The question is: is it worth for soraka to even take the risk and try doing those things? The answer is generally no.

It is the difference between doing the absolute minimum and having it be "Good enough" and actually making the most use of your skills. From the way you are talking about it it sounds like you only care about "Good enough"

Well that's unfortunately how this game works, "good enough" gets you to diamond.

Sure, Soraka/Janna can just do what you said and you know what? They aren't going to be terrible.

They are also going to be diamond, don't forget that.

LoL, as a game, regardless of what champion you are playing, requires skill to play well. According to you because Janna/Soraka take 0 skill a bronze 5 Janna is going to be just as good as a Challenger one.

Unfortunately not, bronze 5 is like, ugh, special in the head. They'll find some way to mess up on janna, they function in mysterious ways.

That is, at the core, what you are arguing. You are saying there is no room to improve on Soraka and so long as you follow a few simple little steps they will be exactly as useful to their team regardless of the player's skill.

I'm mostly saying that it's a lot of effort for very minor improvement.

Before you say that I am putting words in your mouth I am not. Go read through exactly how you describe Soraka/Janna. You repeatedly insist that they require 0 skill. Not some skill, not a little skill, but absolutely 0 skill to play.

I was slightly exaggerating(obviously), otherwise even a bronze would reach challenger on them.

Purely due to itemization supports have a lot to micromanage.

Look, let me try to sum things up: On paper, to play things at their very VERY best, every role takes equal skill because optimizing things with very VERY small impact is as hard as optimizing things with HUGE impact, what happens is that the community as a whole is very bad, and to reach a high elo you either need to not do too many stupid things, or to play something which allows you to play in such a way where there is much less room for you to mess up meaningfully, this is where soraka and janna shine, what makes them faceroll is the difference between a really good janna(which optimizes her abilities fully) and a really bad janna(which just follows some lazy rules) is much much smaller than any other champion(soraka is second there), resulting in the fact that a player can barely be playing(I mean as in if you look at the guy you think to yourself "this guy isn't fucking playing this game at all") janna or soraka and still be outdoing his opponent, hence why they are refereed to as faceroll trash.

Finally let me explain to you what happens due to this, which is basically why they are referred to as faceroll trash: you go into a game, you pick a support which isn't janna(soraka has some counters, janna not so much), you choose good plays, find good points to poke the enemy, meanwhile the janna just stays in the back and uses her kit only reactively, but her shield value is high and eventually not much comes out of your attempts, and eventually janna just outscales you by afking and you lose the game, so next game, you pick a bunch of scaling runes, pick janna, proceed to afk yourself, watch the enemy futilely trying to make plays and poke through your shield, only to put himself in risks not worth taking and getting killed by your jungler, so you win the game, pick janna again, win again, and the cycle repeats where you strongest champion is a champion you find boring and play in the laziest manner, then a bunch of other people reach the same conclusion, and janna(and soraka) get declared as faceroll garbage.

Because in all your talk about computers being math, you forgot this game is played by humans with their capabilities and limitations, and for which playing janna to a great effectiveness is much less demanding than doing that on any other champion.(and sure humans can be described by math, just that it's very fucking complex and hasn't been done yet, not to mention just because something can be described by math doesn't mean there's a legitimate easy proof to anything involving it)

First of all these comments and replies are getting broken up waaaaaaaaaay too much and our posts are becoming too long (Actually hit the character limit a little while ago) So I am going to break down some things and compress a few comments together for convenience sake.

  1. Everything talking about math started as a joke to your original comment on it. Proving a champion was/wasn't op has nothing to do with the original comment. I specifically put my original reply in parenthesis because that was how I was showing that I was making side comments before. You originally said that LoL isn't math. That is wrong and I jokingly corrected you. End of that part of the discussion as it is completely off topic.

Again, not very demanding if you aren't doing anything else.

Except that the scenario was fighting and that still doesn't mean that you have any way to know if your adc is paying attention to the map. I honestly can't comprehend why you think that even IF you adc is paying attention to the map in a fight you shouldn't be too. On top of that you keep making very silly arguments about how they should be, but once again, there is 0 WAY TO KNOW, and as such you should be doing it yourself.

Nobody actually does that

You really think that? If I buy an item I intend to use it to it's max effect. If you think that out of the millions of LoL players no one else does that you are just being silly. Knowing the range at which you give stats is pretty essential if you are buying a stat giving item. Just like how with abyssal you want to be near the target your AP carries are attacking.

Also that was just one example, there are plenty of items in LoL that you have to micromanage. To help cut down on the number of comments this keeps getting broken up into I will also reply to the part on Mikaels. True, there are plenty of people who have to do that but the support has to keep track of that for every champion. If you are Soraka and have multiple carries this goes double as you also have to keep track of large damage abilities to know whom you want to run to immediately to heal.

You almost never get a blue trinket on the support.

Please read carefully, the setup of that sentence clearly reads that if the adc has a blue trinket down you have to ward bushes for them in fights.

The question is: is it worth for soraka to even take the risk and try doing those things? The answer is generally no.

Except there are some things that do HAVE to be done, like warding as your team groups. Raka might not be the safest person to do that by herself, but it is still an essential role and has to be done. The same is true if there is a high power enemy AP carry destroying fights, Soraka might not be the best lockdown, but if she is what your team has and your team is gonna lose fights if that person isn't taken down then Soraka had better be running in to silence them so they can't defend themselves.

Sometimes some stuff just has to be done and when it comes down to that kind of decision making any player has to push their champions into dangerous positions to get it done.

Unfortunately not, bronze 5 is like, ugh, special in the head. They'll find some way to mess up on janna, they function in mysterious ways.

Very true, as the wise man said "Don't trust Bronzies, they will play AP Draven Jungle."

I'm mostly saying that it's a lot of effort for very minor improvement.

This. Exactly. I never said they took much skill, or that it would be bad for them to get updated so they take more decision making. As I said I do believe they could use more of those things. However I also believe that they do still take some skill, game knowledge, and the ability to make the most use of their kit to play very well. Sure they have a low skill floor, but they were made to have one.

My issue, and the reason I started this argument, is because I can't stand people who undermine the accomplishments of others. Saying that people playing Soraka/Janna might as well not be playing the game is not only false as far as I am concerned, but also incredibly offensive to every single Janna/Soraka player. Those players can and do still put effort into the game, and that should always be respected as far as I am concerned.

It is the exact same problem I see with people saying "If you lose because of X thing, you, and your whole team, is bad." They give no respect to the people who caused X to happen, and I find that to be horribly offensive. I am fine with you thinking that Janna/Soraka players put no effort or skill into the game, or that the champions themselves take no effort. That is one thing. However when you say that in the open and are basically publicly insulting every Janna/Soraka player then I feel the need to step to their defense because they DO take skill, they DO put effort into the game, and regardless of how little that is compared to other champions it is insulting to say that they don't.

I don't argue about champions, I argue with players to help them change how they think, because degrading others is a terrible thing. LoL has a terrible community and I argue to help change it for the better. I really couldn't care less what you think about the champions. However I do care how you treat the players, and I will always argue to help make others think more positively.

I don't think that Soraka/Janna take no skill. Based on your arguments, a number of which I agree with, I don't think you can convince me otherwise. However I am not here to change your opinion on a champion or two, I argue to try and change your opinion of thousands of people.

So in that spirit:

My issue, and the reason I started this argument, is because I can't stand people who undermine the accomplishments of others.

Finally we reach that point, and the core issue and reason with that discussion and of my attitude.

YOU WANT THIS TO BE TRUE, YOU WANT TO BELIEVE THAT DOING WELL ON THESE SHITTERS IS AN ACTUAL ACHIEVEMENT.

It's not, you don't like it, you keep exaggerating things, you keep senselessly arguing with me, I'm seriously telling you that you could reach diamond by spamming janna(and if the enemy takes janna, pick soraka), and doing the afk playstyle, don't buy mikaels, that is taxing to use, don't bother thinking about locket's aura, just play the usual way, don't poke, play super passive, let your team do all of the work, just copy some runes+masteries of the afk build(scaling something for the most part) and run the same build every game, as long as you can:

  1. Suffer through the boredom (You're gonna get bored to shit, don't let that affect your play).
  2. persevere: you're just a strong item, you'll win more than you'll lose persistently, but not by much, you'll climb slowly but steadily.

Getting a rank on purely playing soraka/janna means jack shit.

I don't argue about champions, I argue with players to help them change how they think, because degrading others is a terrible thing. LoL has a terrible community and I argue to help change it for the better. I really couldn't care less what you think about the champions.

Don't let your attitude skew your view on reality, just because you want to believe something is an achievement won't make it such, just because you want to believe getting a high rank on soraka/janna is as meaningful as getting a high rank on even blitz/bard/whatever won't make it so.

I don't think that Soraka/Janna take no skill. Based on your arguments, a number of which I agree with, I don't think you can convince me otherwise.

Of course not, as I've said, you want me to be wrong, reality, facts or arguments won't change that.

However I am not here to change your opinion on a champion or two, I argue to try and change your opinion of thousands of people.

That would never work, you're pushing an agenda, not actual arguments, your basically thinking "what sounds sort of feasible and would support my point", not "Is this actually true and supports my point", I actually know why these champions are so faceroll, wild theories won't change my vast practical experience playing both with and against those champions.

I am perfectly capable of positive thinking when that's in order, I however won't lie to myself and go delusional mode because reality isn't what I want it to be.

I'm also not sure what's so negative about my statements, so some champions are nearly completely braindead, how is that negative?

Fondling Gems1 votes

First of all I want to mention (Because I don't feel that I made it clear) that while the topic of whether or not Janna/Soraka players make/use decision making was not my inspiration, it is something I still believe. I don't argue for things I don't believe in unless I am purposefully playing the Devil's advocate.

Ok, with that out of the way:

Positive/Negative thinking isn't about deluding oneself. It is the difference between saying that a glass is half full or half empty. It is the difference between saying that Janna takes a little bit of skill/decision making and that she takes almost none. It is thinking about focusing on the good that is there, and the bad that isn't, rather than the bad that is there and the good that isn't.

Delusion is thinking that something is all good, all bad, or contains more of one or the other than it actually does.

Both deluding yourself and thinking positively/negatively can change how you feel about the world, for better or worse, but it is possible to feel good about the things in the world without deluding yourself.

Because you ignore all the good that is there. You say they are nearly completely braindead. That is only looking at the bad. It means you don't stop to consider the other part that is there, and as such, what hundreds of thousands of other people have done with that.

I say that they take a little bit of effort. I look at the accomplishments that they have done, every little play a Janna has pulled off, every time a Soraka's map awareness won a fight top and let that lane snowball. I stop to care about the little things. All the accomplishments of hundreds of thousands of people.

Does it change how things are? No. Does your way of thinking change how things are? No. Since neither way of thinking has a real impact on the world then which one has the better impact on ourselves?

You disregard others, undermine your accomplishments, and argue for how things are bad, but with no effort being put to change how things are. You think only negatively on the subject and do nothing to alleviate it, it even leads you to think negatively of yourself.

I praise others, for while they might not have done much, compared to accomplishments on other champions, they did something, and to me that is a great thing. I laud the achievements of others, for they are achievements, and every step forward, regardless of how easy, is a good thing, and I appreciate it. I might not work to change it, but that is because I would rather observe and respect the here and now rather than dwell on what could be.

In the end the only difference between the way we think is how it influences us, and your way of thinking causes you to undermine all your, and others, accomplishments. That is why hearing you talk saddens me so much.

First of all I want to mention (Because I don't feel that I made it clear) that while the topic of whether or not Janna/Soraka players make/use decision making was not my inspiration, it is something I still believe.

Ofc you believe that, I repeatedly said you believe that, you just don't believe it based on evidence or facts, but based on how you want things to be.

Positive/Negative thinking isn't about deluding oneself. It is the difference between saying that a glass is half full or half empty.

It's said that way, it never is that way, optimists expect a better result than what is likely, that's always the way they are, that's why they tend to think reality will bend according to what they want it to be, this is where notions like heaven come from, and how they spread.

It is the difference between saying that Janna takes a little bit of skill/decision making and that she takes almost none. It is thinking about focusing on the good that is there, and the bad that isn't, rather than the bad that is there and the good that isn't.

This is exactly the problem with optimism, problems have this tendency not to go away when ignored, janna/soraka being faceroll is a problem on many levels(balance, gameplay, game health), ignoring it to focus on the few aspects where they aren't bad is outright stupid.

Delusion is thinking that something is all good, all bad, or contains more of one or the other than it actually does.

So basically your approach to janna/soraka.

Both deluding yourself and thinking positively/negatively can change how you feel about the world, for better or worse, but it is possible to feel good about the things in the world without deluding yourself.

If they are good, sure, if they are bad, no, you'll have to delude yourself.

Because you ignore all the good that is there. You say they are nearly completely braindead. That is only looking at the bad. It means you don't stop to consider the other part that is there, and as such, what hundreds of thousands of other people have done with that.

If I would say that they barely require and skill would that be better? Cause that's basically looking at the filled portion of the glass.

Honestly I see both as the same, so if it means much to you, I'm fine with saying janna/soraka barely require any skill instead of them being nearly completely braindead.

I say that they take a little bit of effort.

That's sugarcoating things, and saying something with the intention to deceive, they will win against an opponent who is overall much better than them as long as he has flaws(but much less so than them), this phrasing hides that, even though it's the core of the problem and the very reason for my choice of words.

I look at the accomplishments that they have done, every little play a Janna has pulled off, every time a Soraka's map awareness won a fight top and let that lane snowball. I stop to care about the little things. All the accomplishments of hundreds of thousands of people.

What about their opponents, who accomplished x10 times more but still lost cause that's how janna/soraka work?

Does it change how things are? No. Does your way of thinking change how things are? No. Since neither way of thinking has a real impact on the world then which one has the better impact on ourselves?

The one which makes you deal with the problem instead of ignore it.

You disregard others, undermine your accomplishments, and argue for how things are bad, but with no effort being put to change how things are.

First step at dealing with a problem: acknowledging it's existence, in case you haven't noticed people+you are still in denial.

As to dealing with the problem once it's accepted: gut soraka(this champion is just a series of complete failures), delete windspeakers(preferably replace it with something which focuses on the more fun and interactive strengths of supports), move power from janna's e to her w+q+base stats to force her to be more aggressive in lane and fights.

You think only negatively on the subject and do nothing to alleviate it,

What's the point if you deny the existence of the problem to begin with?

it even leads you to think negatively of yourself.

What negativity? I know my peformace on janna means jack shit because I know exactly how easy it is to perform that way.

How about applaud the achievements which are actually worth something instead of applauding something anyone who's not a moron can do?

In the end the only difference between the way we think is how it influences us, and your way of thinking causes you to undermine all your, and others, accomplishments. That is why hearing you talk saddens me so much.

Some things are worth praising, performance on janna/soraka isn't one of those things.

MonkeyMadness3 votes

Only a bad janna is passive. A good janna can make plays with tornadoes. Obviously she is better suited at disengage, but she might have the longest range knock up in the game (other than zac at level 9+) and if used properly can initiate some very favorable trades and even possibly secure early kills.

RainbowIcee2 votes

right ? idk what kind of janna this person has been playing with. Probably the type that maxes shield first.. ugh!!! I always max slow first for that W > Q aggressive knock up poke! I chase down opponents not hide behind my ADC. Bitch you gotta go through me first and it aint gonna be easy because i'm the hunter not the hunted.

The Governer3 votes

Are you serious? Experienced Janna mains always max shield first: http://champion.gg/champion/janna

As for aggressiveness, you are right. In favorable or neutral matchups it's always best for Janna to be as aggressive as possible.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

Ya, I'd say shield max is still best, unless your adc is bad enough that you can consider them as being AFK.

Could not care10 votes

100% agreed. Now there's almost no point to walk up as level 1 starcall does no damage and you need to max W for dangerous situations. This makes Soraka incredibly boring to play as she's literally a heal dispenser and only needs to drop an occasional E. That only simplifies her playstyle and will make Soraka haters hate even more - because the most dangerous moments for her is stepping up to poke with Q, and she doesn't need to do that anymore.

As for why she is hated... all defensive supports are, really. People in this game are really bloodthirsty and even feel feel wronged when then don't get the kill they "deserve". Especially the "assassin" crowd who feel that any counterplay to their high damage and mobility is obnoxious and should be removed. So, once again, after this change it will be even harder to kill a Soraka cause she has very few reasons to walk up. The Soraka winrate may fall, but the hate will probably go up.

I have played the new Soraka, and I can confirm that in a completely even fight, without level 9, it is a losing battle (unless the ADC is much more skilled than the opponent).

Even at level 7, the heal per second is reduced by 40% from pre 6.19 figures. This means that Soraka can only be effective at level 9 and onwards. Risking death through all in engagements will cause her to suffer hard and delay the power spike.

I am going to try to use Soraka and stay out of combat completely until level 9, even if it requires the death of the ADC. I advise all ADC to stay back and farm to Soraka 9 under tower, unless there is a jungle gank or somehow bot is at an advantage.

Death means the enemy bot lane will snowball immensely and the uphill battle will be irreversible. If you are able to get bot lane ahead by recieving allied ganks the game, then Soraka can be played as before after level 9 and maxing W first. Because of the disadvantageous trades pre level 9, allowing enemies to get ahead further is the final nail in your coffins.

My two cents.

Is this seriously the way Riot wanted Soraka to be? There is no evidence of Soraka being a late game champion with ignite/execall/morellos reducing her effectiveness by 40%, hence I do not know why they classed her as such. Enemy team has 5 damage dealers, Soraka's team has 4, healing through 2000 burst damage from enemies late game is not feasible with 120+0.36AP W's through GW, costing 10% true damage, and a level 6 ultimate of 90+0.33AP through GW.

Garbage tier champion right now. I expect a nice win rate drop which should satisfy the Soraka haters nicely. If you can't win after this third huge nerf, I can only say you had your chance. Gg.

Need to remember Windspeaker's and Athene's heal boost. They don't make things great late-game, but they help, even through GW.

I'll keep saying it; revert the rework. She had no damage and was the healer. Her heal had a significant cooldown, the give mana or silence aspect was a unique feature to her, and her starcall wasn't a slow or annoying for the enemy to play around.

They need to change the W as a skillashot, if you hit an allies you heal them, if you hit an enemy, you also heal them.

I think is fair because you increase the skill cap of champ, meanwhile you give her some risk.

This is the biggest troll post I've ever seen in my life.

Why is considered troll adding some skillcap to some champion?

Nerfing her W doesn't mean you can't max Q first, it just means you maybe can't get away with just 1 point in W while maxing her E. You can probably still be a 1-point-in-W wonder, but the cooldown is doubled compared to last patch if you keep playing that way. Considering how often you can land your Q, it's probably fine.

No one ever maxes E first.

silences and blinds are the strongest mechanic next to stuns in this game, but ye nobody maxes e

knockups, fears, charms, polymorphs, and taunts are all stronger than silences and blinds. Knockups are arguably the strongest form of cc in this game. Tied only with maybe suppresses.

Soraka is an awful champion to play against, easily the most oppressive support in the game, and the most demoralizing to see picked on the enemy team. Every other support can be outplayed or strategized against. Not Soraka. Grievous wounds is temporary, has either awkward item requirements, or requires damaging 60% of a champs health bar to do anything. Soraka can always simply wait for it to wear off, then resume ruining everyone's life and time.

She completely changes the game, and not in a good way. Any damage late game that's not on soraka is useless damage because she instantly heals it. And Soraka is always the furthest one in the back, guarded by her entire team.

She's always been absolutely horrible for this game's health anytime she isn't completely nerfed and useless. The most frustrating thing is she is one of the lowest skillcap champions in the entire game. It would be cool if her heal was a skillshot, or delayed a second or two after she clicks, or she didn't completely and utterly shut down any attempt whatsoever at assassins doing anything in that game.

I really really hate Soraka.
