Is It Possible To Really Get Urfwick?

Best Ekko NA··5 votes·3,967 views

I had purchased almost every single rune in the game on my account, and yet I only scratched the surface at roughly 81,000 BE... Was it even possible to hit 150,000 from runes to begin with or did you have to have a ton of IP previously saved on your account?

I don't play Warwick so it's not that I really care, was just wondering how people were supposed to obtain that much BE.

They gave older players less of a refund specifically so fewer people would have enough. I mean I'm a 5 1/2 year player with every champion + almost all viable runes and I got ~45,000 blue essence.

The only way to get it would be one of those 2-3k games a season players with thousands of IP stored up I would imagine.

How much IP did you have before the conversion?

~55.000

I had 61k IP yesterday, today I have a quest to get 65k more just by playing a matchmade game.

If I can get that close to Urfwick, it's definitely possible.

The thing is, you don't need to get 150K from the Rune refund. A lot of people had more than 150K even before the refund.

Well, considering the BE shop was specifically aimed to give players who previously purchased runes something to spend their extra IP on it doesn't seem fair that they'd base prices off already having a huge stash of IP. I pretty much figured, that would be what the deal was but it's pretty sad that they'd take things from that perspective.

That wasn't its only specific goal, they were also looking to provide something for the L O O O O N G time players who had massive amounts of worthless IP stocked up.

Well, considering the BE shop was specifically aimed to give players who previously purchased runes something to spend their extra IP on ...

Huh, no. It was aimed at players with a lot of extra IP and nothing to spend it on (so mostly players with all champs already). It was released at the same time as the Rune refund because the refund would cause a lot more players to suddenly enter this category (every player with 10-40 champs left to buy can suddenly buy them all in one go), but it wasn't aimed at people who bought Runes. Most people who bought Runes will just spend their BE on more champs they couldn't buy before because they had to spend it on Runes first.

dyrus had something like 800k IP on his account

Cool so we just have to play league like 6-10 hours a day for around a year to afford a single skin, seems reasonable.

Edit: Let's get into a time = money discussion let's say the average college education job is ~$15 an hour, this skin is worth about $32,850 assuming 6 hours a day for a year would be able to afford it. It is even worse than the hextech skins xD

It was specifically designed as a reward for those people (and people who had quite a bit less than that, but much more than most of us).

They wanted to reward people who have been playing a TON for a LONG time, and that was successful. We know it was successful because we all can't afford the things in the shop. The people who can afford those things have been rewarded.

I see nothing to be salty about.

My salt is more or less that, I have 5 years of games on my account and my IP was INVESTED in runes, which I got less from than someone who played the same amount of time and simply saved theirs instead of wasting it on runes. I purchased hundreds of thousands of IP worth of runes, only to get 80k of it back, while others who bought only the essential runes and saved the rest of their IP, got a full 100% conversion from IP to BE.

There's nothing fair about that at all. I fully regret ever buying ANY runes honestly, because what was the point? lol

I would be willing to bet that the majority of my runes, I got 100 IP for, when in reality I spent anywhere from 400 to 800+ on EACH ONE. There were maybe 15 runes or something in the entire game left that I hadn't completely unlocked. I really feel like they should be giving the full refund on ALL runes and not just ones during a certain time period.

Why is it old players who invested in runes get screwed and new players who invested in runes do not? What is this logic? New players got 100% back on their runes, people who bought theirs more than a year ago get 100 IP? What? No that is not fair. lol not at all.

nm10101 votes

I'm not salty (I'm long past caring about skins), I'm just saying they made it very clear they don't want the skin to be widely available.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

Yeah, 100%. I just can't imagine it bothering me that I didn't have that skin. As you pointed out in your edit, it's pretty expensive, in reality.

I think it's cool that they reward the players that really love the game. That's a good thing.

VivaLaKitten1 votes

yeah, but to that extent? like the best they can do for a player that's been playing that long is a single skin ? like . . . . . 6+ years for a skin? I'd say that's almost more of a rip off than the 5$ emotes

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

That's the mark of a good compromise, isn't it? There are people who have been playing that long that are probably miffed, and there are people that don't have enough essence to get it and those people are miffed.

The truth is, it isn't easy to change these systems, but Riot knows that it's good for the game in the long run. UrfWick is, simply put, a consolation prize. Consolation prizes are never as good as actual prizes, but it's nice to get something for your trouble, you know?

People didn't invest in Runes to get Urfwick. They invested in Runes to play League the way they wanted. Now that the customization is going away, it makes sense to compensate people somehow, but not with a straight IP refund; if Runes are going away, what good is IP? So it's a partial refund with a skin for people with ungodly amounts of IP.

There are a TON of people that don't like this, but it makes sense to me. This is the way the world works sometimes. For progress, sometimes you have to piss people off. There has never been a time in human history, either for real social change or for minor things that almost don't matter on the grand scale (like video games), that this hasn't been true.

It's not supposed to be an appropriately priced skin, it's just supposed to be swag for old players.

I don't care about that skin, I care about fairness and the way they went about this is messed up.

They didn't "reward old players", they rewarded players who simply saved their IP. I started this game at the beginning of 2012, you want to tell me that I'm not an old player? The cost of my runes was probably some 400,000 - 600,000 IP.. I got 70,000 of that back from the BE shard. How is that a reward? I would have been more rewarded for never buying a single rune.

People aren't putting it into perspective because they didn't invest in the game like I did. Sure I didn't play since the beginning of this game, but I've played ALOT and I didn't get hardly anything back compared to what I put in.

Quepha1 votes

You would have been more rewarded for playing since 2012 with a fat stat disadvantage at the start of every match? Old runes sucked, but they weren't a scam and were well worth the value you spent on them.

And you do get special swag specific to being a big rune spender, there's a certain summoner icon exclusive only to players who spent absurd amounts of IP on runes and no one will ever be able to get it after today.

That's not true. 90% of the runes available were completely WORTHLESS and I never used them. Anyone can tell you about how big of a "trap" the runes were, there simply were tons of runes that were not viable compared to others that were available. I had almost all of them, including the useless ones that were garbage.

Quepha1 votes

So what you did was purchase tons of runes that you were not immediately planning to use in rune page setups?

I have to be blunt with you: That was incredibly stupid and you should have known better. That decision made zero sense and Riot should not waste their time trying to find every possible decision as stupid as yours to try and undo the customer's mistake.

There was never any incentive to buy runes you weren't planning on using, there was never any hint that you would be rewarded for buying runes you weren't planning on using, no one ever referred to the ownership of runes as an investment, and never in the history of League of Legends had the price of a rune gone up.

You were throwing your IP into a pit, if you told me about this practice of yours years ago before we knew about Runes Reforged, I would have still told you that you were throwing your IP into a pit because back then your actions would have still made zero sense. You're quite lucky that you are getting any value at all back from what you spent.

How many games have you ever fully beaten, none?

I don't call it a pit, they were part of the game and what do you buy when there's nothing left to spend IP on? You finish the game of course, by completing everything that there is to have / do. I have every single champion, I had nearly ever single rune, I had quite a load of skins (although no where near all of them but I was working on it). I was playing the game to play the game and there shouldn't be anything wrong with that.

If the developers put something into the game that shouldn't exist, is that the players fault? Hell no it isn't. It's not my fault they put those runes into THEIR game, and they can't hold it against me for purchasing them.

Quepha1 votes

If you were doing it to satisfy an urge for completionism, then don't act like you didn't get exactly what you wanted from it. You get a summoner icon that no one else can have, achievement unlocked, completionism satisfied.

It actually is your fault that you did this. No one told you to climb the mountain and you did it anyways. Congratulations on climbing the mountain but if you're complaining that it was a cold climb then that's 100% on you.

When I 100% a game I don't drag my memory card to Nintendo and demand they make a better alternate ending screen. I log the memory away in my brain.

Except I don't, because the store is priced for players who SAVED THEIR IP AND DIDN'T SPENT IT.

Quepha1 votes

Your reward is the exclusive summoner icon and the low-mid tier items available in the blue essence shop. The high-tier items are for the players with huge stocks of IP to now spend their blue essence on.

That's already more than you should have expected to get. The urge for completionism is supposed to be its own reward. If you deny that then you lose any ground that you are currently standing on.

Except no, because the whole reason they have that stash of BE is because they weren't spending it on runes. If they actually bought runes, they wouldn't have that BE to begin with. Theoretically, I should have the same amount of IP if I've played the same amount of time, except it gets lost in conversion from Runes -> BE, where as people who bought no runes get a full conversion from IP -> BE that someone who bought runes more than 1 year ago doesn't get.

Quepha1 votes

You've already explained that you bought runes out of an urge towards completionism, not because you would be rewarded in any way for it, and you are still being rewarded in a way that those other players will not be and will never again have a chance to get (exclusive summoner icon)

Okay, so other players should get rewarded for NOT buying runes?

What is more fair, rewarding someone for investing in the game or rewarding someone who didn't?

Everyone here keeps saying it's to reward long time players, yet I am one of those people but I am getting minimal rewards simply because I chose to actually invest in the game, where as the players who played the same amount of time and did not, are getting much more out of it. Yes I purchased the runes expecting NOTHING, however those other people saved their IP expecting NOTHING as well. No one predicted that they were going to remove runes, you can't use that as the basis for an argument. Time-wise, I am just as invested as "the guy who saved his IP" and yet, they get more out of it.

You're actually less invested because you spent your currency in a one-way transaction that could have taken place instantly at any time and every indication was that if anything the price would be reduced in the future.

Which is why I said that your decision was incredibly stupid and made zero sense. Obviously if your goal was to invest, then you would invest in the more versatile currency than a good that was in decline that you could also be able to instantly convert your currency into if there were ever an indication that something unusual could happen.

Actually, now that I think about this more, it actually does make sense that Riot is punishing your poor economic decision-making relative to players who actually looked at the system and made logically correct decisions. Good on Riot for breeding more fiscally responsible gamers.

Except in reality, people just didn't care and that was why they didn't buy the runes. You are blowing it out of proportion.

The reality is that you looked at the runes and thought, "I don't benefit from this in any way, but I'm going to buy it anyways."

That actually is a worse decision than simply being apathetic, you went out of your way to make a mistake.

I'm not complaining, just clarifying the actual value of that skin. People who can actually afford it are being massively compensated for their play time, which is actually nice of a company to do.

I agree, I could only play league that often when I was like 17-18 years old and I don't get a full refund from runes I bought back then so I'll probably never have this skin (which for the third time this thread is perfectly fine, by all means reward the people who play the game consistently).
