Can Alistar get a passive that actually influences the game?

Back in the day, it was alright since it the number were higher and it allowed him to jungle.

But jungle Alistar is a monster, and so Riot, rightly, killed it. Now his passive is soooo low ((6+level of alistar)+10% AP)) so anywhere between 7-24 (+10% of your AP) magic damage per second, up to 2 seconds. A very small thing that doesn't help Alistar at all. He can't really solo lane (since they changed his W), so he can't use it to push, his skills are usually combo'd so he can't drag out the damage (W-Q combo).

Alistar needs a passive that helps him to do something, not just a number add on that is a shadow of what it once was and can never be buffed since Alistar in his current form cannot exist anywhere except in the support role, since he is such a CC machine.

Alistar should get a passive that helps him either A. Catch up to CC'd targets or B. Get CDR for CC'ing targets. Something along those lines. In its current form, his passive is literally one of the most useless passive ever. It doesn't mesh with the rest of his kit at all; thematically, it makes some sense, but a giant minotaur trampling on you should do way more damage than he currently does.

TL-DR Alistar's passive is trash atm and Rito can't buff it because solo Alistar is cancer, so the passive should be changed to something that helps support Alistar so he doesn't not have a passive.

He was meant to be a tank who excels in the role of a "pusher", who can effectively push the lane alone and with team in a relatively fast and effective fashion without the need to be like say a fed Master Yi whose pushing prowess comes later into the game when he gears up.

Hence why he has a Passive that does relatively small amount of AoE damage around him, an AoE heal that is pretty much only enough for minions (so he can stack them along the way), and an Ultimate that makes him a strong turrets pusher and diver.

But Riot completely revamped their own champ class system (from a more complex one into today's bare bones version), twice in fact, hence now he has a completely outdated kit philosophy that simply either works too well or just outright doesn't in the current stage of the game, and Riot is completely fine with him being the latter because he is a tank.

So yer.

They could give him a bit of bonus damage to structures when autoattacking. It would fit thematically with his idea of a rampaging bull.

I feel it's difficult to give Alistar that many more impactful effects on his kit, considering how his active abilities have some of the most raw power out of any support (he gets a Malphite ult on a 13-second cooldown, plus an on-demand heal, even if the heal is super-weak and expensive). There's always the lingering issue that any bonus that lets him become viable as a roamer and/or solo laner might bring back his Season 1 problems, since his ganks still have the potential to be super-disruptive. I think it might be worth looking into what makes him problematic in those situations and fixing that, which would then allow him to be a lot stronger at everything he does, and perhaps even allow him to jungle and solo lane again.

He's fine. Champions don't all need overloaded everything

Alistar has his powerful strengths, his passive is just a small push/persistent damage helper.

Tired of these posts, kits aren't supposed to be like Kalista, Yasuo, Thresh where everything is super-high impact constantly.

{quoted} Alistar has his powerful strengths, his passive is just a small USELESS PIECE OF SHIT

please. for the love of all that is holy. Learn the words "he, his, him, etc." it was so freaking annoying to read that with all the stupid icons over and over.

Forcing Alistar into the support role was a mistake. Even when he was commonly seen toplane last season he wasn't overbearing. I can understand how stupidly strong jungle cow would be with item 3717 item 3075, but I still would like to see him as a viable toplaner. A new passive might be able to provide him with some laning ability without making his jungle that viable.

His passive is fine for a support/tank imo. It does DoT to towers which if his ADC/team has enough damage, will allow him to deal damage to tower despite not actually hitting it.

I will agree it is somewhat underwhelming and he could possibly use a new one, but at least it isn't as toxic as his old one and not completely useless like some other champions.

The idea of the passive is fine, but the execution needs work.

As we know by now, Riot is giving tanks damage auras. Cinderhulk and the PBE Abyssal Scepter are examples of that. Ali's passive should be like those: Dealing small amounts of damage that quickly add up if you stand beside him for a couple seconds. It fits his kit nicely as well, since the cow only has two damaging abilities, and both have extremely high CDs and mana costs. So his passive is supposed to be dealing damage for him while he's recharging his Q and W.

The problem is that the numbers are pathetic. To compare: Alistar - ((6 + level) + .1 AP) item 3751 - (5 + level) item 3068 - (25 + level) item 3725 - ( 15 + (.6 per level))

It's slightly more powerful than a Bami, with an AP scaling. Unfortunately the scaling is so low, and support Ali rarely builds any significant amounts of AP, that it makes little difference. Ali would need 190 AP before his passive started doing Sunfire levels of damage. And let's not forget that his passive isn't constantly on and burning all the time like Bami or Sunfire either. Once Ali run out of mana, his passive disappears as well.

So, I think a better passive would have two significant changes:

  1. Passive is no longer triggered by abilities, but by being in combat.
  2. Passive no longer scales off of AP, but off %BonusHP instead. This rewards Ali for building tank with damage. To prevent him from abusing this in the jungle, the passive's base damages could start out weak and ramp up around level 6, or the passive could do 25% - 50% damage to jungle monsters.
