Trying to pick up Morgana Mid again and I'm frustrated at my inability to engage my lane opponent

So, I used to play Morgana a lot way back in earlier days of League, and used to do fine with farming waves with W and catching my enemy when I could. But none of that feels very effective against current champ designs. My enemies being able to just hide behind minions to invalidate my ability to interact with them kind of forces me to just sort of rely on shoving the lane in and trying to scare them off by placing W such that it impedes their ability to farm. Which just gets me ganked because my lane is always shoved and Morg is kind of an easy gank since she just kind of walks away and pray they don't have a dash up.

Any advice? I'm kind of tempted to just go back to benching her honestly. Thought picking up an old favorite would be fun, but playing her as a non-support role is incredibly annoying.

How is Morgana an easy gank? She can't be CCed if you use your E correctly, and she has her Q after that. All you do with Morgana is use W to farm and push the wave, stay away from the enemy, you're not meant to engage on them. Your ult will make you think you should, but the only time you should engage on them is if you know you can kill them, and in most cases, unless they're low health, you can't. You just want to use your W to lower their health and farm at the same time. Your early game will not be that amazing. Once you get a Rylai's and a Liandry's is where you really start to pick up on Morgana mid, imo. You also don't need a ludens. It might push your damage a bit back, but a RoA can work wonders with all the health from Rylai's and Liandry's. The healing from it is also another good reason to use it. You don't have to push the wave with your W though. If you're worried about ganks, farm with autos until you need to push harder. Your goal as Morgana is to be as uninteractive as possible. You win through your MR shield and W pretty much. Your Q is just to guarantee a kill or interrupt a gank.

Don't worry, your opponents are probably even more frustrated at their inability to engage you, given that you can Black Shield to ignore CC, toss out a long root, and scurry away every time they try to interact with you in any way.

If you want to engage a lot, Morgana isn't the champion for you.

I thought not engaging the lane opponent was why people played Morg mid in the first place. Farm up, from safety, ping their roams, take their tower. BS their abilities when appropriate and Q them if they try to go in on you. Some matchups once you hit W lv3 you can just kill off the wave and take pot shots on them as they try to farm under tower. Ward the side you are on of course.

So can't they. You're a Morgana.

I agree with the others, your laner is also having a hard time against you. I play her mid as well and although kills can be tricky, I always try to aim to get the low if they move outside the minions by hitting a QW engage, then when they are low enough, hit them with an R plus ignite after level 6.

If they are smart and just stay behind minions, I hit them with W as much as I can.

When did this change? (Hint it hasn't)

Morg has been the same for ages, the only thing they gave her recently is movespeed on her ult. I don't understand the complaint, people have always been hiding behind minions to avoid getting snared all the way into season 15.

Yeah, Morgana mid isn't that strong alone. I'm sure this will be downvoted by silver players, but it's the truth.

Morgana thrives by shoving wave and coordinating with the jungle. Get an early game jungler like xin or udyr on your team and you will roll over mid lane or roam and roll over every other lane.

Morgana's 1v1 kills generally fall into two categories:

1.) The enemy foolishly tried to all in you and got bound in a creep wave or otherwise awkward position leading to his death. 2.) You flash ulted the enemy immobile champion.

She has zero kill pressure 1v1 against intelligent opponents. Literally zero.

Here is how I play Morgana mid:

I safe farm until first back. Buy boots and a lost chapter. I shove the wave and roam bot repeatedly. Alternatively, I ping my jungle to come mid and we 2v1 the mid and kill them repeatedly. This playstyle is pretty much identical to any other roaming champion mid.

So how do you counter this if you're playing against Morgana?

1.) If you're a mage you can easily match Morgana's shove. You need to take dematerilizers and shove her into the tower so she can't roam. If you're against an early game jungler you should take cleanse and ward intelligently.

2.) If you're an assassin you sit mid and farm. You wait for her to back and look for picks on her teammates. If you're Zed and you get even a single kill you should be able to solo kill Morgana, but again be careful if she has early game jungle help.

One thing people need to get over is the incessant need to kill. It is possible to out farm Morgana mid and scale. Just because you probably won't kill her in lane doesn't mean you can't win the lane.

By the way, shoving Morgana early fucks her hard. She CANNOT cs under the tower. It is hard as shit. Shove her level 1 and 2 and you will put her behind in cs pretty easily.

Enemies feel the same when playing against you
