The reason why Elise can't remain in a healthy state
Because she does everything a little too good, and like every other champion that is a flex pick, they need to pay for that flexibility.

What do you mean? She wasn't used as a flex pick. Flex pick would be Corki during the days when he could go bot or mid, or Lulu when she could go top, mid, or support. THOSE are flex picks. Elise is just annoying in that her damage stays relevant all game despite what she builds

Because Elise has high AD ratios as well as high base stats along with multiple gap closers and an ultimate that can displace champions while at the same time, stun other champions. She is too good in every situation, my recommendation is

Okay, sure, but that still isn't a flex pick. That's uncontrollable build variance. A Flex pick is a champion that can be locked in during a draft, but doesn't reveal the intended position you intend to play it in. In the modern day, champions like this would Include Sion (Top, Jungle, Support), Yasuo (Top or Mid), and Olaf (Top or Jungle).
She transitions in the jungle from an AP burst assassin to a tanky mage, so she's more a generalist pick.

Flex pick is the wrong term, although I'm not sure what the correct one would be.
He means that she's good in nearly every team comp. Need a tank? Elise works. Need AP damage? Elise works. Need CC? Elise works. Need the ability to escape? Elise works. Need early pressure? Elise works. Need to be strong late? Elise works.
I guess moreso she's a generalist. Much like Ahri mid. Ahri isn't any good in any role other than mid (I mean, she can function top but she belongs mid) but Ahri is good on just about any team. I can't think of any time I've ever seen a comp and thought "Ahri doesn't work here". So just as Ahri pays for being good at everything by being exceptional at just about nothing, Elise needs to pay for her generalist-set. OP argues she doesn't (I don't really have an opinion on this).
Flex picks can refer to champion pools as well. A champion that can be picked into any comp or match-up can be considered a flex pick in that regard.
Please understand the meaning of the term 'flex'.
League having common terminology for one factor doesn't exclude that commonly applicable term from being applied to another.

I disagree. If a champion can fulfill multiple uses from the same role, they are called a generalist. They excel at everything, so they are very attractive. Flex Pick assumes that when you take a champion, you can pick and choose whether or not the champion needs to change from one playstyle extreme to the other (Role to Role). A champion that already does everything doesn't need to have options considered, because they bring those options to the table despite the fact that they are confined to one role. That is how Elise do
Karma and Ezreal are examples of flex picks because they can be taken into two roles and played efficiently at higher levels of play.
You're ignoring the English language in favor of common League terminology.

Of course I am, we're talking about League. I would never use the word gank in a conversation that took place outside of League, just like I would never use the phrase "Flex Pick" outside of conversations about League or other games
The terms "flex" and "pick" can be used according to basic English rules to apply to anything.
For example, if you have a 'flex item', its an item you will pick up rather than your usual itemization because it fits some scenarios better.
The same could be said of having a generalist 'flex champion' which could easily be described as a 'flex pick'.
Him saying "flex pick" is not wrong. Its still a completely accurate descriptor.

Except it is, because it's the wrong label for champions like Elise. She's a generalist. You don't lock her in during champion select with the intent of sending her to whichever role is most optimal for her, you do it intending to always put her in the same role, but it doesn't matter because of all that she offers.
As for the "Flex Item", that's not a concept that really applies to items. One item will always serve it's own purpose. You bought it because it serves that purpose. The only real Flex items that ever existed imo were Titanic and Ravenous Hydra before, when you could switch them out depending on what you needed. Picking one item over another isn't really Flex Picking, it's just building the best item for the situation
Just like how I would ignore the english language in favour of soccer terminology when I say back pass.
Except neither 'back' nor 'pass' are as commonly applicable as 'flex' or 'pick'.
I need to let the NA casters know that they've been using the word flex pick wrong.
