Playing ADC is way too hard

I'm trying really hard to get into the role of ADC, my friend is mid and support main so we like to duo sometimes, but dang, that role is way more stressful than any other i've played.

-You're constantly facing against two champions. Sure you have your own support, but you still have to be careful about two players instead of just one. -You're squishy. -Botlane is the most common place for 4/5man ganks. -You're the main damage source so you can be sure as hell that they'll try to kill you first in teamfights. -Assassins are more common than Mages lately, which makes ADC's life that much harder. -Armor pen being a strong and common stat means that you'll be taking almost true damage from any physical damage source. -Unlike mages who can just dart in and out to deal their damage, you'll have to constantly be cautious about your positionning to deal your damage. -You are reliant on your support to perform properly. A bad support means that you won't even be able to do the job you are assigned to since the enemy will be able to pressure you without much resistance.

Well that's all i can think off the top of my head. Correct me if i'm wrong, but this constant pressure can kill any fun i have when playing ADC. I kinda miss the time every ADC rushed Bloodthirster, it made laning phase way more passive and forgiving, unlike the ''who gets most damage faster'' fest we have nowadays.

It does kinda suck, in low elo I would imagine it would be very difficult to climb ranked being a solo ADC main but if you duo with your support and have good synergy then it's a lot more fun.

In like Gold and above you start getting matched with teammates who are beginning to get a understanding of everything and it suddenly becomes way easier to work together with random ADCs/Supps because everyone there is on the same page (for the most part)

The higher you go the more fun it gets, this happened yesterday (I am the Nami): http://plays.tv/s/L-aaKZQRvzXa

Who are you playing? I play ADC all the time and have a ton of fun, and I generally do decently well, too. I also extremely rarely duo. I play a lot of Twitch and Miss Fortune as my ranked ADCs and Vayne, Varus, or Lucian when i'm looking for some fun in normals. Overall, it's a very hard role to learn, but it's pretty rewarding once you learn it, because you know as a fact that you can carry any game if it runs long enough and you position properly. However, it's also among the highest skill cap roles. If you want some freelo, play Miss Fortune. You're strong in lane phase, so you aren't reliant on your support to do the right thing anywhere near to as much, you just rely on them not feeding, and you're a teamfight god who can take over a game with just 2 items. Plus, even with the change to Youmuu's and Duskblade, the armor pen build on her will still be good. Youmuu's -> Duskblade -> Black Cleaver -> Last Whisper. Your ult will easily be going above 4000 damage and you'll be doing basically true damage to anyone no matter how much armor they build (each wave of ult applies a stack of Black Cleaver's armor shred = 30% reduced armor + LW's 40% + Youmuu's and Duskblade). Throw on a Death's Dance or Edge of Night and you'll become basically unkillable while you channel your ult, too. For masteries, 18/12/0, picking up DFG (it applies the AoE on your ult, the DoT on your E, and the single target on your Q; the AoE on ult also refreshes itself every tick of the ult, adding a ton more damage onto it). You do too much damage while also being tough to kill.

On the flip side, if you want to truly LEARN the role well (MF is one of the least mechanically intensive champs in the game, you just have to know when to ult and then do it), play Vayne. For her, a single build is far less easy to pick because she can build a lot of things, but right now I recommend a crit burst build. You get BF Sword into either Statikk Shiv or RFC, then IE, and then PD. Tons of attack speed, tons of burst on that first auto, tons of damage on the third. You can also go a very lifesteal-heavy build to avoid punishment, rushing Runaan's (lifesteal applies fully on the 3 bolts from it) into just as much lifesteal as you can pile onto her and now you have so much you're difficult to kill if you keep autoing, especially if you use your ult and Q properly in fights. For masteries, you can go 18/12/0 getting either Fervor or Warlord's, depending on if the enemy team is tank-heavy or not, but right now I would recommend Warlord's. Vayne is a very mechanical, skill-intensive champion. You can do some pretty amazing stuff on her if you learn her right, but the road to getting there will be long and hard. I have mastery 4 on her, pretty close to mastery 5, and I still don't have Vayne mechanics down perfectly. However, if you can play Vayne well, you can play any ADC in the game well.

Another thing you can do is a roam gank Twitch. I don't do this when I play him, but I should, since Twitch is one of the few ADC's who can roam and snowball himself with other lanes as well, and he's strong with a snowball. Basically, you get your Serrated Dirk -> Runaan's -> Youmuu's and just constantly shove the bot lane in, then go mid with your stealth and get kills there. You play kinda like a jungler in that sense, where you don't really snowball off your own lane, but you do it by putting the enemy mid laner behind and getting your's ahead. This is a way to have a strong early impact, and I might even do this as early as level 3 if I can without getting punished too hard. It's a pretty decent way to do things, and it's a lot better than the farm and carry later style that Twitch normally has. Honestly, I feel like this is the biggest reason why Twitch started building Youmuu's, but so few people do it anymore that they may as well just do crit build instead if they don't. I know Twitch is definitely going to switch to crit build after the preseason changes instead of Youmuu's rush because Youmuu's is losing the attack speed. I'm not sure how that would affect her DPS, but it's something I'm interested to see tried. Twitch could do something similar, except throw a Runaan's in there early, too. His stealth resets would make the Duskblade pretty decent. However, he's also pretty attack speed reliant, so it might lower his overall DPS in teamfights and force him to play more like a Vayne if he does it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Twitches rushing Runaan's -> IE -> Statikk/PD in the preseason and the next season. A lot of attack speed, but it's a much later spike than what he has now, however with Youmuu's active not giving attack speed anymore, it might be necessary.

Overall, ADC is in a bit of a tough spot right now. You can carry if the game runs long enough and you're good, but for most ADC's, that's not an easy task. I'm interested to see a number of new builds pop up after the preseason changes. Maybe I'm wrong about Twitch just going crit instead of Youmuu's rush, and he'll do a full armor pen build and play like an assassin still. Maybe Vayne will do the same thing, Youmuu's -> Duskblade -> Edge of Night. Yes, for the new Duskblade passive, she does have to be in stealth for 1 second, but there's literally 0 attack speed in that build, so she may as well stay in the stealth; she won't lose too much DPS, and it's quite a lot of bonus true damage.

Currently my main ADC is Tristana. She is really fun to play and i'd say she has a high skill cap despite what we could think of her. Her kit has a lot of play/outplay potential and her W can partially negate CC when timed right. Her early game is relatively weak (not the worst tho) but she scales really well and is really rewarding and fun to play.

I've also played some Jhin and MF in the past year, but the other adc just don't appeal to me, and i've tried most of them. At some point i played Quinn botlane but the rework on her ult ruined what i loved about her, i loved to use it for a quick assassination instead of roaming. I'll have to give Twitch a try sometime tho, him and Corki are the only two adc i've never ever played in a norm. Especialy Twitch, being able to have an impact on the other lanes as an ADC really appeals to me.

I play Quinn top lane every now and then and you can still use her ult for quick assassination. In fact, I think it's better for it now than it used to be. All the movement speed it gives you now gives them less time to react. You fly in on Valor, E, auto, Q, auto and most of the time, you're opponent will be dead.

Twitch, like I said up there, can impact the map earlier by doing stealth ganks. I usually don't, but I know I should. In the next patch, his stealth duration is also going up, 10 at rank 1 (double what it currently is), and his W is getting some changes, too. I think his meta will probably shift more into the jungle with the next season just because of the nature of these changes, however, he'll still be powerful as an ADC who can impact other lanes early and he scales extremely well. The removal of attack speed from Phantom Dancer is going to hurt him pretty bad, but new builds will be thought up, possibly just straight up BF Sword into Runaan's, then finish the BF into IE, but against extremely squishy teams, I can see a full Lethality build working really well for him. Stealth in, duskblade passive for an extra 170 true damage to everyone with the first basic attack, blow up the back line, get resets, stealth to get the Duskblade proc again, wreck the frontline. However, he will be weaker at engaging from stealth because he won't be able to slip right past the enemy team, he'll have to go around.

I climbed to Gold this season as a support main. It was not easy, but it is way harder to do than ADC. I didn't cheat in low Silver and play Annie/Brand with ignite either.

What I learned from climbing is the bot lane meta is SO strict in low ELO. If your pick is hurting in the meta right now, then bot lane is incredibly unforgiving even if you have played that champion for a while.

Tristana isn't an ideal pick right now, and you'd be much better off picking another champion if all you care about is climbing as ADC. If Tristana is who you really want to be, then learn to play incredibly safe and more importantly, learn to play from behind. So many ADCs don't know how to play when you're behind. If we lose lead or fall behind, they fall apart. Don't do that, stay focused! Do not give up and keep farming. Avoid duels you know you'll lose.

Scaling should be your number one priority. Also try not to stray from lanes too much. Roaming ADCs are very hit and miss. Supports can roam because they don't need to scale fast, ADCs absolutely do.

As a support main I won't lie, when I see someone like Tristana being picked, I know our laning phase is going to be hell. If we're against someone like Miss Fortune, then I pretty much prepare for the worst. That doesn't mean I give up, but you need to be realistic about your limitations. You can easily outplay FoTM abusers if you play smart. Just realize your enemy probably has more room for error than you do, especially if their teammates are winning.

I've duo'd and solo'd this season, and honestly I don't see a big difference even as a support main. The sooner you realize how to play when you're losing, the faster you'll climb. If you pick someone like Tristana then realize you're going to be entering the game at a disadvantage and plan accordingly. Don't get messy and you will win or at least not make the game an embarrassing loss.
