Why doesn't Sheen grant AD instead of AP?

Sheen is primarily bought by champions who, yes, frequently use spells but also rely on their basic attacks. It always feels weird for me to buy an Amplifying Tome when I don't intend to do magic damage. If you're playing traditional tank Nasus, you won't be using Spirit Fire too much. If you're Gangplank, his oranges and ult will benefit, sure, but your primary source of DPS is AD. If you're Jayce, most of your damage will be physical. Even Ezreal with his mixed values uses his basic attacks a lot. I will submit that some champs do better off with the AP, like Ekko or Fizz.

Plus, doesn't it make sense that a sword and a blue crystal make a bluish crystalline sword?

item 1036 + item 1027 = item 3057

Anyway, just a thought.

I will not have you unbalance Trinity Force.

No.

It would certainly disturb the powers that be.

You do have a bit of a point, as out of the three items Sheen upgrades into only one retains it's passive's AP scaling. That said this change would remove all AP from Trinity Force, which is kind of odd considering it gives almost every other stat.

What about item 3100 and the champs who build it? they don't plan on dealing physical damage and item 3078 Needs the balance of AP AD and AS. take away the AP and you just have DuoForce

Lich Bane is something i build on AP champions with longer cooldowns and have some attack damage reliance (cough cough Akali Leblanc ) especially when I'm low on mana on lb, Lich bane (which happens to also be lb) helps my autos proc and last hit champions better when everything is either unavailable or on cd

Let's not use sense to justify game decisions. After all, two wands somehow make a hat and a bow is somehow a component of a sword

Wouldn't this change kinda screw over TwistedFate Sona Viktor ( a little)

Fizz

Oh.

Suddenly I'm fine with this.

But anyways, your could argue that since someone is picking up Sheen they'll be using abilities anyways since that's how you proc it, that that's why there's ap in it instead of ad.

I hadn't considered them three. I'm primarily a fighter/tank at heart, and I was thinking of all those times I've bought the item as someone who deals mostly physical.

I estimate that it makes sense with the hybrid functioning of the item. It uses abilities to empower your physical attacks. So it would make sense that the item gives Ability Power to strengthen your abilities and the proc deals additional physical damage to strengthen your physical auto attacks. Especially because, as I understand, abilities were more likely to scale with ability power in the early history of this game.

I think the recipe makes sense because if you want a sword, you wouldn't just take a sword apart to replace the blade with another one, that doesn't make sense. What you do is: You have to buy and read a specialty book item 1052 to learn to make a stone item 1027 into a blade because that is not a part of standard smithing practices.

I was just thinking you slap the item 1027 over the blade of item 1036.

It's not the reason, but one reason why Sheen doesn't need to have AD in its normal design is because the damage proc from Sheen is worth more in AD than the total gold cost of the item. It's hyper-efficient.

Look at it this way: AD is worth 36 gold per point (Long Sword, 360 / 10 = 36)

Sheen grants damage equal to 100% of Base AD. Now, the absolute lowest base AD at level 1 is Orianna at 40. A Sheen Proc adds at least 40 AD worth of damage per attack.

40 * 36 = 1440

Each time you proc Sheen, it's worth more damage than spending 1200 gold on AD.

Now, obviously, it doesn't apply to every basic attack. It's a proc with a cooldown. It is still a burst increase to DPS that scales up to being worth more than the gold spent on it, when built on the right champions. It's efficient enough to be worth buying Sheen items on champions that either don't have AP or don't have Mana (ex. Vayne, Akali).

Also, please do not call for sense when item 1052 + item 1052 = item 3145

Why do two books make a gun? I like to call sense on everything.
