@riot Why am I playing against plats and gold as a silver in normals?

Daxanater··12 votes·4,932 views

Look I might be going full on retarded mode but I just duo qued with a friend for some normals to farm chests and legit just went against 2 plats and basically 3 golds. My team had a silver 1 who is my friend, a silver 5 which is me, a bronze 1, bronze 3 and a silver 4.

Can someone please explain this?

Edit: The ranks for the other team were Plat 3, silver 1, gold 1, plat 5 and silver 2. I really only care about the plats.

Normal games match you up based on a MMR that is separate from ranked queue.

It's possible you've been successful enough and the enemy team unsuccessful enough that you're normal queue MMR is close to the same.

Also possible they got to level 30 and from that point only focused on ranked so their normal MMR remained near silver level while they mostly focused on ranked games.

Also possible they the plat/dia/+ is in group with the silver thus averaging their MMR near the average MMR of your group..

It's pretty annoying but you can look at it this way. Playing against plat as silver is always good practice as they will test your mechanics/decision making much more than playing with someone at your level.

Rather than getting frustrated at the skill level difference pay more attention to how they play the game and maybe you'll learn a thing or two :D

Look thats something I can't lie about to practice but this game they were a 5 man q just invading my jungle bming of course and literally destroying us, there was nothing I could learn about that.

Trust me man I've had plenty of those games too. We all have haha. It sucks and sometimes tilts me away from league for awhile especially when I'm playing jungle and constantly invaded.

Even then there's ways to play around that strat. Always warding for yourself when you go for your buffs or asking your team to ward river/tri after jungle camps spawn/before going to lane can help.

Yea

Theu are not gods. They are jumans like you who think of a strategy. You van match that knowledge only if you accept to learn from the failures you encounter.

They invade alot? Ward. They gank mid alot? Why is that? Can you counteract it? Is je neglecting obkectives?

Anyway

It's not that simple, we aren't playing full on competitively, normals is just a chill game mode, have fun and relax but if I'm going against people who are 2 tiers above me, how am I supposed to be having fun against that lol, I rather actaully have a fair game instead of my team and myself getting destroyed because of a 1 sided factor.

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

Ayyy I thought I had that comment deleted. I made a bunch of typos from typing with my cellphone in the subway.

But yeah I mean, you are always going to have unfair matchups here and there. Its just like that in norms since people don't normally try hard, some plats get their Normal MMR tanked down to silver MMR, and some silvers might take norms super seriously and get a higher than silver MMR and then you get matched together because your MMRs cross in the Gold range maybe, I don't know.

Point is, not every game can be the absolute best in terms of balance. These things happen. I'm pretty sure you've had some one-sided stomps vs Bronze teams in the past perhaps. They probably felt the same way.

If I play a norm and encounter a plat/diamond player, I see it as an opportunity to learn. I can understand it if its not your case... But its the only tip I have for you, sorry :(

Right

Don't complain, I wish I was against Plats and Golds. I'm against Plats and Diamonds every game and I'm Silver too. It's made me stop playing normals anywhere near as much as I used to because it's just so demoralising losing to people you have no reason to be matched against.

Daxanater2 votes

I feel you man, it's annoying. I can't actually have a chill game of normals for once.

Maybe because this season is cancer and a lot of the plat/diamond population stopped playing the horrible dynamic queue and started to play normals with their low MMR?

From memory this started happening towards the tail end of season 5, for me.

I've been playing with people that range significantly outside of my MMR in normals since season 3.

The fact that they run on a different MMR system and completely ignore ranked MMR means that normals queue, especially starting at around S1, has an extremely variable rating range, and has had one for a very long time. (S1 seems to be the point where tryhard normals players, and people who almost exclusively play ranked start to meet.)

There's nothing related to the current season that's causing it.

I've been playing games with people ranging from B1 to masters for 2 seasons, and before that it was Bronze to low diamond. Normals queue just gets bizarre past a certain point. You either learn to accept it, or you stop playing normals. But honestly, it means the average skill level, and also the game is more fun than playing ranked.

I get better players and less stress.

The matchmaking is really bad.

Like, really really bad.

At least it isnt Team Builder. Holy shit, fuck Team Builder matchmaking, literally every single game was a complete stomp.

Indeed

Daxanater1 votes

I swear I went against a full diamond team too as a bronze 1 0_o in there

Llanite2 votes

There are 2 separate MMR, one for ranked, one for normal.

If they are plat in ranked but have not played normal since bronze, their normal MMR stays at the level of a bronze.

Be glad it happens in normals. I have this problem in ranked

Daxanater1 votes

Bro that must suck.

Daxanater1 votes

Honestly I dont care about the gold just the plats.

Like comon, I know the feels. I just played a game as shen and i went 17-4-18.

My team was: Silver 4 - Bronze 3 - unranked - bronze 2 and I am silver 2.

Their team: Gold 3 - Bronze 4 - Btonze 2 - Bronze 2 - Silver 3.

So yeah they got a gold 3 Jax... Who tried to 1vs1 a fed shen in a big wave of minion mutliples time and focusing me all the time in teamfight and Jumping on my adc in a 1vs2 when he knows I can peel for him. Oh and he tried to gank me when riven was ver far behind instead of ganking other wining lane. Our silver 4 malphite used his ult With my ult to engage, everytime... he played like a god compared to this gold 3 jax. He used his brain and ganked my wining lane so both of us carried and took objectives together.

See, not every gold player is necessarily good.

A long time ago I matched against a full team of plats, gold, and a single diamond. I want to point out I'm completely unranked. Never stepped into rank ever since I started back in season 2. This match lingers in my memory for three reasons. The oddity of so many golds and plats, how boring it was because they honestly only split pushed, and that a diamond Vayne is not fucking ok. On the other hand we won that match because while they could split push all day they couldn't team fight for crap. Eventually we held out long enough, forced a team fight, aced them, and took the whole game in one giant push.

Nice though

Depends on the normals. If it's blind pick it's just randomly strewn together, but if it's the other set of normals, it's people exploiting the system as they do in ranked.

A gold player can group with everyone, so, to exploit it and basically carry people through the lower elos, you get your gold friend to group with you and a plat/diamond level player. The system will put your group on a gold level MMR, and you as the silver player get MORE out of the win then if you were playing in your normal MMR/ELO.. (this has been tested and proven)

I'm just about to make a new account for normals, this is getting out of hand.

LatetotheRace1 votes

It means you're doing well. It's a good sign that you're not where you're supposed to be in ranked either. E.G. you can climb mate.

No flash no life1 votes

Those players have never played normals and you simply ran into them on their first normal match.

I once used my aram account to play normal. First normal, lvl 11, with the rest of my team lvl 11~15 range. Holy, a plat and gold on the other team, full lvl 30 runes and masteries.

Sometimes I think, I'm better off with a randomly matched system. At least I can tell myself "this feeding guy's probably new" instead of "this guy's supposed to be as good as the rest of us according to riot matchmaker, why is he playing so bad".

I have the same problem... but hey ..I practiced and now I even win against them although they go full tryhard^^ (I was season 4 silver 5). So it really helped me improving and im thankful for that
