Getting kinda frustrated with league and this snowball meta

Idk why but I felt like venting to you all (at the risk of farming downvotes here)

tl;dr is at the bottom

I'm getting kinda frustrated with league because of people's selfish playstyles and because of how squishie the early game is. Because it's so squishie, theres no-more room for mistakes: the first-couple kills decide the game.

Also, I main adc (though terribly lol). However, I can tell you that we may be outputting too much damage right now (along with everything else), but on the other side of that we are also dieing really quickly. And I believe this is because of the new rune system. Because our base defensive stats were taken from us with only minor compensations, we've had the rug pulled out from under us when it comes to an "early game" damage cushion. Not only that, but because of the general damage increase from everyone using damage/snowball runes: I am seeing a progressive spike in selfish game-play.

SO here's what i'm frustrated with.

  1. Now that everything does absurd amounts of damage people are going in for themselves and deciding to pick carry champs and neglecting to do supportive work. I have seen this especially in the support role, most of the people being filled in don't know what they're doing and so don't want to put an effort to win because they think the game is lost already. It also doesn't help that this "snowball meta" punishes mistakes early on so these supports end up tanking really hard due their squishiness and due to their lack of experience. Selfishness from people who get filled into Support has gotten worse. And I know this is true for me and for the enemy team because either they snowball or I snowball and I can't play around or defend against mistakes that cost us the lane at 2min. I Literally had like 3 games now surrender at either the 15min or 20min mark due to either me snowballing or the enemy bot snowballing.

  2. A rise in an absurd lack of peel (it's worse than i've ever seen, and i've been playin since s2). Either the team is just in-capable of defending you (because you die in less than a second, and because of a lack of cc) or they just stopped bothering to care due to their own damage and because they can't protect you. And I know that it was like this before, but at-least it was bearable and you could play around it. Right now, I'm having a hard time playing around it.

  3. Squishie early game. The power-curve in the beginning is much lower so differences that jack a champion up the power-curve are more pronounced: (as in, they snowball quicker and from the very beginning). People are snowballing because the emphasis from the runesystem is on snowballing: "get adaptive damage based on level", "get stats/effects based on takedowns", "get more stats based on time", etc etc. I'm sure the removal of "comeback xp" isn't also helping, but my meager ability to understand the game probably isn't helping me see it's impact so i'm just lumping it all together as a "snowball meta". This is synergizing with a lack of early-game "damage cushion" from defensive runes. If you get a lead, you can abuse the hell out of it. And if the enemy gets a lead, playing through the game becomes a chore.

  4. This rune-system has an utter lack of defensive stats outside of making "resolve" your main rune pick. "utter lack" can not even begin to describe how I feel about this, i am missing the old rune system so much right now. Also, it doesn't help that Riot's defensive compensations to each individual champion seems lackluster and reserved. At this point, I see a need for an "overhaul" and not a band-aid.

And it may be true that i'm just whining.

Right now, I think i'ma take a break league for awhile (even though I just came back for the pre-season).

In the meantime, if you disagree with me please discuss it with me. I am really trying hard to like this system and am trying to figure out if i'm the problem or the game is the problem.

Anyway, tl;dr:

  1. Everyone does too much damage and more people are being selfish and playing selfishly, and this sucks. this is has made the whole "auto-fill support" phenomena much, much worse.
  2. Hardly anyone is playing supportively and peeling, which sucks. Either they can't or they don't want to (because the adc dies before the tf even begins and no one can stop it).
  3. Squishie early game mixed with a "snowball meta" sucks. If you get a lead, you can abuse the hell out of it. And if the enemy gets a lead, playing through the game becomes a chore.
  4. Rune-system defenses suck. Also, Riot isn't doing enough to fix the "old rune system" void.

Also, I'm done. Gonna do something else for awhile till it gets better :D

This. You play for 5 minutes. And the rest is just someone ahead pushing for the win and nobody having a good time.

Game length and snowball

Something we watch closely especially around pre-season is how game time and snowball rates are changing. That's been particularly important to watch this year given a few changes that** have the potential to create more snowbally and/or shorter games**. Those are things like a reduction in catch up XP, Legend/Bounty Hunter runes that are being taken a lot right now, **people running very aggressive feast or famine team comps without much of a front line etc. **

I kinda laughed at this one. Meddler also went on to talk about game-lengths and how they havn't changed for the most part. I'm not sure where he's taking his data from, but its not entirely reflecting what the players are experiencing.

Things look and feel alot different then from up there (Riot HQ).

Anyway, just because the game-lengths haven't changed much doesn't mean that the experience hasn't gotten worse. I'm really hoping things shape up and get better by the end of the pre-season.

Games aren't shorter because you can't push to base that fast. Or vote for it to be done with. But the games are certainly over much earlier. Even if the games aren't shorter in duration.

included a tl;dr. Always forget to include that.

Anyway, i don't want to waste anyone's time so I decided to get right to the point.

I'd imagine the auto-fill support problem's only gotten worse ever since Rito gave support players the shaft in Patch 8.2, I used to be a support main and those changes were so godawful that I'm actually boycotting the role altoghether

this post was 3 months ago bro LOL. So i'm guessing it hasn't changed xD.

By lowering the effect of supports you lower the effect of the skill difference for when you autofill them. I haven't seen the changes so I can't confirm. But judging from your reaction, this is probably the lines of thinking they came too...

only it took them 3 months from when I made my own analysis LOL.

I disagree with the changes though, seems like they're opting out of balancing by just lowering the effectiveness of the support role altogether.

Riot needs to fix their game...
