Why AR URF and not URF?

while enemy team has the best hypercarries in urf mode ... my team usually has low damage champions that can't counter most of champions.. AR URF seems so fair

Because there is a sizeable portion of players who obsess more about what other people play, rather than what they're playing. And they suck. And most importantly, they whine (on the forums). So Rito James™ decided that the solution was that nobody should be allowed to pick what they want to play, so this sub-set of players (the bronze-bads) are happy. And satisfying these players (which is not possible) is what Rito James™ thinks is most important.

Rito James™ could put in the ban system we currently have for draft. Or Rito James™ _could _ implement Nemesis URF. But no, we're stuck with this tardsystem to mollify the players who are in the literal Bottom 10% of ARAM players. The level of players who, after ~100 games of ARAM, are still matched with legitimate bot accounts -- because their MMR is so trash.

Urf went from trying champs to see what they do to who could pick the core best champs every game. It was a guaranteed Eve, Hec, Zed, Fizz, LB, etc. It basically developed its own meta that people adhered to. AR is more objectively fair because now it's RNG. I liked urf better because as a zed main urf zed is a dream come true so I'd exclusively play him, but I recognize that's not a positive experience for the enemy when they faced 6 BT zed.

Might get pick urf back one day for fun, but it'll probably stay AR because there were a huge amount of complaints about people just picking hyper broken shit.

Then implement a banning phase....?

Then they just pick the next best. There's always a top 10.

Not to mention that their is probably more than 10 champions who's kits become absolutely infuriating in URF mode. The only way to prevent such abuse is to disable champs in that game mode, or perform balancing specific to URF. (And Riot pretty much said we can't be doing that anymore.)

The biggest argument for URF is just peoples desire to dick around with the champions they want to use. And while it's a fine thing to want to do, it become unsustainable as a game mode. With AR URF, the Random element gives the system more replay value because the champs are random. While still offering the Mayhem that classic URF had.

The only Real argument against the space that ARURF creates, is that the Randomness put the odds of winning to a coin toss. As someone who plays ARAM all the time, I can pretty much work with the randomness. But in the case of URF, a Broken champ in URF is more problematic than a broken champ anywhere else, which could make that randomness that much more swingy.

I did think about the Nemesis URF idea. (NURF mode) You would get relatively balanced teams, and no one is going to end up with a stupidly broken champion.

Erm no, ARURF has much less replay value. Why would I want to lose all the time because I can't control anything? Even if I get something good that doesn't mean my teammates will and the other team could easily have more champs that are better in URF. I could play URF all day. I gave up after 5 or 6 games of ARURF (all loses that began at champ select) because it wasn't fun. Even if I get a good champion, it wouldn't be fun slaughtering Vayne or Soraka or something.

I also exclusively play ARAM and the randomness in ARAM is much more managable whether it's because of delaying to late game or outplaying them by baiting cool downs. Weaker champs have strong engage tools like the Snowball. It's fairly balanced in its own way.

There's nothing fun about ARURF and it's 99% champ picks and 1% skill.

every urf game i played the exact same champs got banned, it was really boring and almost disheartening...i just wanna spam Sona...

whats the problem w/ some champs be more hyped then others ?. and second what if me and my freinds want 2 try out a combo but we cant cuz riot is fcking cancer and makes it ar urf and not urf there is 0 problem in players wanting 2 play fizz or zed these champs are just more fun in urf. urf is made for fun but when u get master yi or trynda (which are champs i find no fun in playing in urf) its just and instant ff u will have no fun that game. its sad that a sub gamemode made only for fun isnt fun half of the time due 2 the retarded randomness.

Because URF rapidly degenerates into stale cancer.

If that's your reason why ARURF is justified, then it's a miracle it's still a thing.

I can counter that reasoning with "ARURF is for chumps." There, now we're back to square one.

LyingOnLine2 votes

ARURF exists because URF immediately degenerates into a stale meta of cancer champs.

This does not make either of them any less for chumps.

TheSummonerDoom1 votes

We need a ten ban system so the ten or more cancer champs CAN be banned out at champ select. Then our problem will be solved.

LyingOnLine1 votes

Assuming people won't immediately move on to the next ten most OP picks

How do you even get through life with taste this shit?

SirTeemoMushroom4 votes

well , at least both teams are cancer , instead of 1 and the other one just suffering

OurLestrade2 votes

More enjoyable than getting the same champions again and again.

no one forced u 2 pick the same champs again again u fcking moron u could play any champ u want 2 and there even was a ban phase

Because Riot is trying to balance a game mode that isn't supposed to be balanced. The one thing we don't want balanced is what they work on balancing. Rather disappointing.

ATastyDessert1 votes

It does need some semblance of balancing (see Teemo/Shaco) but this isn't balancing but simply making it extremely aggravating and unfun to play

I think the traps had a limited amount because the game would have problems with unit lag if either of those two were able to place traps without limit. I mean a thousand traps on top of everything else is a lot of units, so I can accept those nerfs.

ATastyDessert1 votes

No, yeah I completely agree with you but what they're doing (making it ARURF instead of URF) isn't balancing. All they're doing is making it extremely aggravating and unfun to play with maybe 1/10 games being fun whereas you can have fun with every game in URF

lol balancing looks like you are on drugs ar urf is so xtremly unbalanced you either get an op champion and go 20/0 or get a weak champion and go 0/20 VERY FIN RIGHT? [zombie-brand-facepalm]

I never said they successfully balanced it. In fact, I think they made it worse.

So more than 20 chamions are used

69 op i Michelle1 votes

why is it a problem that there was few champions used in the gamemode no one limited u from picking the champ u wanted.

Titanium701 votes

You mean noone limits you from loosing with the champs you want.

Besides that - playing with whackamole with Wu and Zed for a game migth be fun - but the 20th game is a row becomes quite dull! No matter which champ you chose!

Ravnir1 votes

There is no problem with game mode. The biggest issue is with some champions. When you play normal, you sometimes think

God, I hope enemy Master/Riven/Garen... won't get fed

And now you play AR URF and you see some unbalanced champion in enemy team and you think

Oh... My... God...

This mode, AR URF is brilliant conception but first champions should be balanced and we all know Riot won't do that. It's like building your own house... but using wrong material, and after you finish, house collapses and you think

WTF?

Yaaay more people using the Fallacy of "it only has the same 20 champs in regular URF" Stop using Riots BS excuse. That excuse has been proven wrong MANY times, especially when pick/ban rates of URF was more balanced than Ranked Games.

Just some background This is a list showing 84 Champs from back in 2014 when URF was a thing http://www.lolking.net/news/final-urf-mode-charts ... Notice on this. Ezreal was 35% play rate. almost 40 Champions were over 10% play rate. 11 were 20%+. and 1 was 35%. Closest being 25%... Now the Argument is that URF only show cases the same 10 champions. By this data? Thats not even REMOTELY possible. AS you have 11 champs at 20% Play rate, which would mean these champs would get banned, and now you have almost FORTY FREAKING CHAMPIONS with 10% or more. 7 Champs at 9% alone. 8 at 8%. and in this list all of these champs are 4% play rate or more. That is 84 Champions all of which are played PRETTY DECENTLY. Lets say this list is based off 100 games. 35 of those games Ezreal would be in. 4 would have a Rengar in it. Now it doesn't seem like alot with this perspective right? THIS is the narrative Riot is preaching, they are crunching the numbers down to a small bit trying to show "See not many people played x champs" But when you enlarge that to 70k games? 2800 had Rengar. and only 24500 had Ezreal. Still a big difference, Yes. BUT that is also talking a Very Shitty urf champ, vs a really strong one.

The point being also THIS IS FROM 2014!!!!! 50% of the champs back then worked ENTIRELY different, ITEMIZATION WAS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. So not only did champs BUILD differently, but some champs had COMPLETELY different kits. Cho then had 6% play rate.. him now? Dude he would be WELL over 15%. Plus back then we had 6 bans. NOW we have 10. Back then ONE PERSON PER TEAM BANNED. now? EVERYONE gets a ban. So. Lets do this. If we took 10 bans. and we took out the top 10 Champs from 2014. You could say good bye to Ezreal Lux Riven Fizz Yi Shaco Lucian Ashe Blitz and Lissandra. So.. Neither Zed Kat Teemo Eve LB Veigar Ahri Wukong Malphite Brand were in the top 10 most played. So lets say, We ban 10 champs that are OP now. We could get rid of Zed Fizz Shaco Yi Teemo Vlad Cass Veigar, Maokai and Urgot.

But the overall thing is. RNG does not = Fair. RNG = Random BS, RNG also means ONE team has to suffer while the other stomps. This didnt happen in URF only in ARURF. The thing with URF? ATLEAST I HAD FUN PLAYING A FUNNY CHAMP OR TEAM COMP EVEN IF I LOST. Now? I have to put up with getting a shitty champ and rerolling an even worse one.

as someone who's complained about ARURF a lot. I like the re roll system now. I don't have to see Zed every round, and I have a few options of who I get to play.
