Why are there so many basic attack triggers for runes?

Of the 17 keystones, 11 must be triggered by auto attacks and 3 can be triggered by auto attacks.

Why is there such an over reliance on auto attacks as triggers for the keystones?

It's not unreasonable to think that this could be one of the major contributing factors to the lack of keystone diversity you see. Everyone who doesn't rely heavily on auto attacks fights over the same 6.

Because everyone has and reliably uses auto attacks. Well except Karthus.

That's great, but the mechanics surrounding the runes are designed around making those auto attacks stronger, rather than something that can be utilized by someone weaving in auto attacks between their spell casts. It really doesn't explain the over reliance on them as a trigger.

If most of these could be procced with abilities they would be way stronger than they are now.

Must be triggered by AA Or ability that applies On Hit Effects so essentially an AA (example = ezreal q) = 8, PTA, Conq, Fleet, Dark Harvest, Hail of Blades, Grasp, Glacial, Klepto, Can be triggered by AA = 5 Lethal Tempo (Can be proc'd by abilities), Electrocute, Predator, Aery, Phase Rush Cant be triggered by AA = 4 Comet, After Shock, Guardian, Unsealed just wanted to fix ur numbers not tryna be a dick x.x
