Is auto champion prioritized abilities unhealthy design?

The Deckowner··2 votes·1,215 views

champions like Ahri Fiora Sona have abilities which automatically selects its target and prioritizes champions. these abilities require nearly no mechanical skill to use and is extremely unfair for the opponent because there is no counterplay and discourages interactive gameplays. is this kind of ability really necessary to exist in a champion's kit? What is the purpose of this kind of ability?

No, it is not unhealthy because all champions have a source or sources of reliable damage to one degree or another.* There aren't champions for whom this is not the case, because no one would play a champion who couldn't be relied on to be able to do what they are supposed to. People would just pick the better version of them who could.

"these abilities require nearly no mechanical skill to use" Well, yeah! This is League of Legends, after all. LoL is supposed to be a strategy game, you are supposed to be tested on strategy, decision making, etc. Hitting things is not the relevant test of skill here. If you want that, you go play a shooter.

AurelionSol

To answer your one-picture response: Yes, he does. For one, his primary ability is a very large AoE shot that can be reliably landed in any circumstance where you are supposed to be able to; it's easier to land than other comparable abilities.

And even if you still don't believe that and think he is unreliable: If that was true, that and the current rate of his most common role being the 154th most common pick supports my principle. "No one would play him" and people don't.

So no, it's not an unhealthy mechanic.

It is a slow moving AoE SS that cannot be activated and all it takes to dodge it is to get in his face. I fact, all it takes to dodge his whole kit is to get into his face.

People who master Aurelion are amazing due to the extreme counter play to his whole kit.

You dodged some Sol's Q. Good for you. This has nothing to do with the topic of the thread and you are arguing something else entirely, being contrarian for the sake of it.

He has a 1.25% play rate with a high win rate for those dedicated enough to master him. Like...really.

His R.

His ult

On a pretty long CD, might I ask. That is the one ability that can reliably hit things.

hits and knocks back to the exact range where he can reliably hit with the rest of his kit

Nope auto champion targeting isnt unhelathy design but Targeted spells are which you ahve to actually target the right champion first thats why taric couldnt be strong and was made reworked because he wasnt strong enough to be impactful with his small aoe on both is passive and ult

velkozhs kit is entirely skillshoted and he will do abosolutely 0 dmg if he misses his abilities.

IF SKILLSHOT MECHANICS ARE NOT A REQUIREMENT TO PLAY THIS GAME THEN EXPLAIN TO ME ALL OF THESE SKILLSHOT RELIANT CHAMPION.

Well, it's a good thing it's very hard to do that then and that he gets compensated with plenty of range, bonus damage, and undiminished AoE to compensate for what he does miss.

But anyway, you've lost track of your own point. You are talking about things like Ahri's W which A: isn't a problem and B: still hits minions all the time anyway, even with champion prioritization.

It's not a "counterplay" issue, It's just a little something to make the ability function less clunky.

Its a skillshot. Anyone with a brain can dodge it lol.

To some degree. It can also backfire when it doesn't go on the champion you want it to tho.

Not really. If it is just a ton of free harass, like sona, then yes. Otherwise not really.

Ahri and Sona can't target stealthed champs with those abilities and Fiora's requires that she guesses their position by getting within melee range of them.

I am certain that Sona's abilities hits stealth targets, I remember watching one of the fail video where the shaco was running away from a sona in the red jg, he q over baron wall and got hit by sona's e automatically ended up dying. it was so halirious that I remember it clearly.

ahri's w definitely hits stealthed champs too, and her ult also does the same, I main teemo I know very well.

as does any bounce ability... kat q for example..

The Deckowner1 votes

bounce doesnt prioritize champ tho, and u actually has to use it on a unit for it to bounce

TheJinxedOne1 votes

well. ive played eve in aram so much and Fiddlesticks is just.. like.. i can be stelathed behind turret and it hit me every time.

The Deckowner1 votes

lol his bounce range is actually very long

TheJinxedOne1 votes

yeah. point being it still hits stealth which seems.. odd... id assume it would need a target. and being stealthed to me means you cant be targetted directly. unless some one just happens to shoot you with a laser ..Lux as they aim at your team mate

AATTRROOXX3 votes

Sona's E does no damage, secondly if she used an ability before Shaco was fully stealthed it would continue following him despite losing vision, as does any targeted projectile in the game.

The Deckowner1 votes

the topic here isnt about her e dmg, it is that her abilities can hit stealth champions.

and Shaco was 100% fully stealthed, his q is a blink+stealth after appearance, if he gets over the wall he is stealthed. Sona used her speed up after shaco get over the wall

AATTRROOXX1 votes

Do you have proof? Without conclusive proof there is no argument and neither side can make claims. I cannot claim that she fired before he was invis and you cannot claim she didn't. Without proof, this argument has no purpose.

Please present proof so I can make judgement,

No because if it wasn't it would be clunky as hell and not work when you needed it to in lane/jungle and result in a very underwhelming champ for clutch moments.
