PSA: Not all mechanics are equal

Eedat··67 votes·2,504 views

I'm getting a really tired tired of people listing out what a champions kit does in extremely misleading manners in order to portray them as being overloaded.

Lets get this out of the way because I'm sick of it. Not all mechanics are equal

"X Champion has mobility!"

How much mobility? What kind of mobility? Is it a Blink as opposed to a dash? What are the conditions for the mobility? Is it targeted only? Whats the cooldown? Can it be used to jump over terrain?

I'm getting really sick of people comparing apples to oranges. A targeted dash from Poppy XinZhao MonkeyKing is NOT the same as the unconditional Mobility of Leblanc. FFS just stop

This is one of my favorites too. "Annie isn't immobile! She just has to buy Protobelt!" Are you kidding? You've played LoL right? Is protobelt technically mobility? Yes. Is it actually mobility? NO. People actually trying to compare Prototbelt as being even in the same league as Ahri.

Knock it off. Stop trying to lump Annie with Prototbelt into the same category as Kassadin

"X Champion has CC!"

What kind of CC? Is it a skillshot? Does it work through minions? How easy is it to hit? How many people can if affect? Whats the cooldown? Is it point and click? Is it AoE? How big is the area? Whats the duration of the CC?

Stop trying to present Ahri charm as being in the same league as an Amumu ult. Darius grab is NOT in the same league as Nautilus. A snare is NOT the same thing as a suppress. A single target skillshot is NOT the same thing as a point and click CC.

This list could go on and on with the misrepresentaions people try to present against a champion hey don't like. Stop it. Take your crap argument elsewhere

Galio has CC, burst damage, tank stats, and mobility. Clearly OP Rito nerf plz.

Fondling Gems4 votes

You forgot healing when he takes damage. So OP.

Chembaron Yamada7 votes

Wait a few more weeks til he gets his rework. I bet there will be enough people complaining about him being OP and has to be nerfed.

CannonLordFreed2 votes

As someone who has mastery seven on Galio he really just needs his E fixed to be relevant. Really just scrap it and start over and he could be really good. And for the love of god fix his mana costs.

Chembaron Yamada7 votes

Accept Galio's fate, they won't just change 1 ability. The rework being the closest to the original kit until today was that guy Warwick (great job btw, riot, absolutely love his new design) and even he is pretty different. ^^

There is a reason it is a complete VGU, prepare yourself to learn Galio again. ^^

Galio rework will be on Sion level which makes me kind of excited

i hope he will be as awesome as Sion is

I really hope his W and R are at least close to what they are now because those abilities are just so fun, especially back when laser turrets were a thing.

I'm scared because he and Rammus are always my yin and yang of tanking-- take Rammus for overbearing armor needs, Galio for MR needs.

I'm most worried that they're going to pull back too hard on Galio and he's going to lose a lot of what made him fun in exchange for being a mish-mash of gimmicks.

But, WW and Sion turned out well, as did Poppy. I'm not too worried... I just hope we don't lose the anti-Mage tank in Galio.

Don't forget about his sustain, waveclear and FREE AP from building MR.

Why, he can build full AP and one-shot a squishy champion who blindly walks into a bush.

The horror.

Spoofghoul1 votes

i shall not forget about his sustain

Darius Is a mobile champion with an inbuilt dash on his ultimate.

Yes, I've heard this one being used in a serious context before.

For some reason, many people try to say Darius is mobile because he can build Black Cleaver and Deadman's Plate.

Even ignoring that the mobility is situation, it is only a movement speed buff.

Building Luden's Echo would have a similar effect for mages and ADCs will occasionally build two Zeal items while having more innate mobility than Darius does.

Saying that makes darius a mobile champion is silly, you're right :) I do however agree with people that say Darius is hard to kite lol.

Movement speed buffs are most definitely mobility. They get you from point A to point B faster and they help you dodge skillshots. They do everything that you want out of a dash.

That said, it doesn't really count if it's coming from items. Everyone can build items so it's a moot point there. It's like saying Annie is mobile because she has flash and can build a protobelt.

Also Darius does have a dash on his ultimate, technically, but it's almost uselessly short.

Move speed is only true mobility if it's either supercharged or a sudden burst. Just having high move speed isn't mobility.

RavenMagus1 votes

Just having high move speed is indeed good enough to be called mobility.

If the movespeed you get isn't high enough, then it's just bad mobility, just like Darius's ult is bad mobility.

Another important thing is they need to see how a champ also apply their damage.

For example people hate Ahri and the 3 dashes she get on her ultimate, but most of her damage come from getting close to land her E, W, and Q to do damage so she need those 3 dashes on her ultimate.

An Undead brat2 votes

You wouldn't guess that, EVERY champion's most of damage comes from hitting all their damaging abilities and majority of those champions need to be hella closer with hella less mobility, so yes, Ahri deserves her hate.

RainbowIcee2 votes

Which begs to question why some champions have certain mechanics. Example why does ryze have a point click snare if he already have a movement speed steroid, it's like there's no fucking way you're gonna stand a chance at running.

For instance, Mordekaiser has no hard CC and gawky mobility while having to itemize into slows...

What are you? A mechanicist?

YES!

Snares might as well be suppressions or stuns to anyone with less than 300 range. ps you also forgot the strength of the cc which is measured in duration for stuns but for slows a 80% slow by a ranged character for 1.5 seconds on a melee character is far a equal to a 40% slow by a ranged character for 3 seconds except that ranged characters dont seem to have slows below 50% mostly only melee characters meant as tanks while carries have slows with that hit far hard in terms of the slow and damage

Champion Skin1 votes

MasterYi starts meditating while being snared...Wait why can I meditate aren't snares the same as suppressions or stuns for low range champions? Weird....

I agree with this, but I think this also risks falling on deaf ears, because the majority of players making "X champion has literally every mechanic in the game" posts are deliberately distorting their target's kit, and disproportionately exaggerating their strengths to make them look worse than they are. It's generally quite easy to immediately poke holes at their "analysis" and see the bias behind it, but that's not what the thread originator really cares about, nor is it all that important to the people voting on it, because the only reason it matters to them is that it provides them with an opportunity to vent their frustration towards that particular champion. Hyperbolic champion hate threads are just one of the many kinds of crap arguments that plague Gameplay, but merely pointing out their flaws isn't going to help, because those threads are innately popular precisely because they're so biased and low-effort, and will continue to be popular as long as the boards retain their current format.

I'm willing to bet that if you were to talk to any of the people writing or approving those threads one-on-one, they'd concede that the champion isn't as overloaded as they've made it out to be, it's just that they're playing into this larger board culture of hyperbole and vitriol in the hopes that they'd get to "trick" Riot into somehow agreeing with them. It's not effective, but even if Riot doesn't listen to them (and with good reason), at least it's still comforting to get upvotes and the approval of like-minded posters. This is the core problem behind those kinds of threads, and the reason why the boards should likely do away with the voting system and start moderating a lot harder for shitposts.
