How do you know if you're good or just playing against bad players
I've gotten high scores and I've gotten downright low scores, but rarely do I get consistent scores. So, how do I know if I'm good or bad?

You ever play fire emblem? Lances beat swords beat axes beat lances. Its like that with league really. Some people have different play styles that you can win or lose against. The pros they recognize this and learn the enemies play style and the try to counter it. That's the sign of a good player.
Are you challenger?
you don't worry about it and just have fun.
That, my friend, seems to be a fine knowledge question, one which is open-ended without a definite answer. For more information on how these knowledge questions work, please visit this site:

Alright in all seriousness, there isn't really a definite way to know whether you are just good or the players are just bad. It's like a game of rock-paper-scissors, where one object is better than the other. YOU may be better than Player 2 overall, but Player 2 may be better than Player 473 overall. However, this Player 473 can be better at YOU. Each person has their own strengths and weaknesses. You can woop @ss on one player but some other player can woop yours.
When fighting against certain people, you may be good compared to them. But other people you fight may be better than you, resulting with them as well as possibly you thinking that you are bad. There is no set boundary on what determines what's good and what determine's what's bad. Everyone can be both good and bad at the same time. It all depends on the circumstances.
Hope this answer's your question.
PS: I'm drunk while typing this so I have no idea what bullsh*t I just typed.
JK: I'm not drunk, I am just currently experiencing a mental breakdown of studying for 25 hours straight on a test I'm about to fail. BYES!!! [slayer-pantheon-thumbs] [slayer-pantheon-thumbs] [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

ELO system works just fine.
straight to the question. You are playing against bad players.
Put a mind set of deaths. more than 10 deaths in a game and you should consider either a bad player or a bad game. consistently dying in the upper 10's is a sign of a bad player.
Funny thing is Kills dont mean you are good player.
some overall key things you should consider: Optimization of runes masteries and item build path. Consider is this person building the way they are for the fight or because of the % win of the criteria or is this person just building one thing and never changes his/her path just because.
Look at the job of the roll.
Mid - is the champion a lane bully or a roamer.
Top - do they not die. that seems about what i know of top. Enjoy the Talon top cancer.
Jungle - are they having a lane opponent. what i mean is when you are in the jungle you are competing against someone else and junglers sometimes treat jungle as farm simulator.
ADC - CS count. are you keeping in line with CS at certain milestones.
Support - are you keeping your ADC alive as much as possible and following up on plays. Sometimes it is just a bad game.
I don't think you can really look at it that way. You need to look at each game with fresh eyes and consider most importantly your placement in fights, your ability to dodge critical skill shots, and your ability to land critical skill shots. If you can consistently say your positioning isn't bad, and you are contributing meaningfully to your team (regardless of how good they are doing) then you are performing well. This will change with your ELO obviously.
