Current ADC changes are really problematic, and here are some proposed solutions
The crit changes on PBE are intended to lower adc burst towards squishies, lower their damage in the mid game, allow non-adcs into bot lane (I think), and lower adc value overall. However, right now there seem to be too many problems in adc itemization changes that solve actually none of these problems - in many ways, they arae actually BUFFS. While the PBE changes are highly tentative to change, these changes will cause some serious issues if implemented.

According to another post on the boards, the break even point between the current and PBE infinity edge is 125 armor (https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/vujrNylc-the-inf-edge-change-on-pbe-is-a-buff-against-anything-with-more-than-625-armor). This not only means that the damage towards squishies isn't actually reduced that much, but also that it PUNISHES squishy champions for getting armor items meant for them (
), or getting bonus armor through other means (runes, taric, etc.) This should NEVER happen - squishies shouldn't be punished for building slight bits of armor that are in offensive items (all of which have fairly high opportunity costs in damage). This forces squishies to choose between building no armor and letting
blow them up instantly, or building them and getting nuked by adcs like they do currently (since most adcs/mages have 80-90 base armor), meaning the infinity edge change is pretty ineffective in lowering burst damage to squishies. -
While the build path and costs to
and
are nerfed, they also give additional stats. First considering the
combo, the combo costs 500 more gold, but also gives 10 more ad and 10% more crit chance. Now considering the
combo, it costs 800 more gold but also gives 10 more ad and 20% bonus crit chance - considering that 20% crit costs 800 gold, this is actually a BUFF in efficiency. Sure, the item path is nerfed, but considering HOW STRONG adcs are right now, this is really not a meaningful nerf at all. And cosidering point 1 above, I don't think the removal of the current
passive is a nerf (considering that against tanks it's a GIGANTIC buff). -
The problematic item combo that has been pointed out thousands of times (
), which gives a dps class unjustified upfront burst, is still not removed. If you are truly trying to lower adc burst damage, removing this combo is the obvious, foremost step. This is honestly disappointing. -
Nothing of these changes are actually encouraging other classes to enter bot lane.
Considering these points, I came up with several tentative solutions that fulfill the goals that Riot want to implement, while still letting them cut through tanks in the late game.
- Critical Strikes now deal 150% of the attacker's current attack damage from 200% - this not only lowers adc burst overall, but also lets early RNG crits be much less impactful
- Infinity Edge cost increased from 3400 to 3700 (recipe and stats provided unchanged. Passive - bonus critical strike damage changed from 50% to 20-50%, based on level - this lowers early crit damage while still letting it get back to 200% in the late game New Passive: Critical Strikes now ignore 30% of the target's BONUS armor - this passive to compensate for lost crit damage and let adcs cut through tanks in the late game
- cost increased to 2900 from 2600
passives no longer interact- Proceed other PBE marksman changes as normal Note: Numbers are just made up - changes can be made accordingly
Right now the proposed adc changes are VERY problematic, because they actually increase adc strengths in a number of ways while not nerfing them in the intended manner. I proposed some solutions to help solve that
