we need an AP oriented sightstone that builds out of chalice
This would Increase support diversity by an incredible amount and would make it much funner to support with ap supports

It shouldn't build out of Chalice for a few reasons:
Overall a Sightstone that builds out of Chalice would be too expensive for a support to have during the laning phase (particularly because you'd need to add quite a bit to the price to put AP into it) and lead to weird contradictions in itemisation where you can't afford to buy two items that you really need without wasting precious gold that you don't have.
I don't think you could realistically make an AP Sightstone that doesn't just build out of Amplifying Tome.
It shouldn't build out of Chalice for a few reasons:
- Chalice doesn't give any AP - to get AP on the item you'd need another item in the recipe
- Chalice costs 900 gold, this Sightstone would therefore be significantly more expensive than the current Sightstone and delay the support building it for too long - people would take the current Sightstone just so they can get it quicker
- Chalice is already a component of a key support item - Mikael's Crucible. If you want Mikael's in a game then you can't get this item without wasting gold on 2x Mana Font passive.

the initial "800 gold" sightstone would not build out of chalice, but the final one could. I just wish there was a sightstone that didn't build out of hp.
we could call it "saphire sightstone". Even one that built out of a saphire crystal would be good.

Ah, fair enough. In that case it could go like:
Amp Tome > Sightstone Sightone + Chalice = Sapphire Sightstone?
Still a fair bit more expensive than the current Ruby Sighstone but obviously more worth getting. That said, still don't really like overlapping Chalice with Mikael's. I'd probably make it build from Blasting Wand instead.
much funner.. yes, btw have you tried the new Meditation? It's pretty awesome.

not yet, i've gnerally have been having of luck taking all defensive masteries on a support so i've been working on my thresh geme. I'm actually planning to try that out later... but it bugs me that there isn't an AP oriented sightstone.
If Riot treated they're support game as a diverse role and modified sightstone like they did with junglers... supporting would be incredible fun
Well they made some good changes to the utility tree for the mage supports or what ever you wana call it. The buffed Coin
is pretty good too. I suggest testing some of these things out. Also
got a pretty cool buff too if you play a champ that benefits building it. I think "mage" supports have a lot of utility items that are often overlooked.
and even a "tank" oriented item
Except mage supports are already beyond viable. Just no one's willing to step out of meta.

The problem isn't mage viability. The problem is that as a support, you need lots of wards. The current Sightstone gives a great amount of health and satisfys all the needs of a tank support, but not for a mage support.
Hp is a need of everyone, not just tanks. 800 gold to fit into a role while still getting 400 gold in stats is quite worth it.
Realistically, if you put mages into bot lane, where will the supports go? Riot has made it very clear that some dedicated supports can only act as such.
except tanks get more benefit than mages. in some cases, 150 hp won't do squat.
Then rather than get a t2 (Ruby SS currently) upgrade option, we should have a t1 (regular SS) option.
