The problem with vlad is that he needs so many items to be effective. He needs high cdr to actually have his sustain in the early game, meaning you must rush item 3158 and item 3152 You need item 3116 for the sheer beast stats it gives him, and the barrels of kiting, chase, and peel it gives you and the team. After that do what you want, but it takes a while to hit 3 items and before that you are usually surviving lane.

In mid he's dancing around trying to get the cdr to make his sustain work so he doesn't get poked out. Movement speed is most important for these matchups.

In top he usually abuses his range and infinite sustain to out farm/ level the enemy without leaving lane. Or he gets bullied and just tries to heal until he can afford the aforementioned three items.

Late game his stats are STUPID though item 3158 item 3152 item 3116 item 3065 item 3157 item 3135 Crazy tanky for a mage, while still having tons of damage.

For masteries you have two choices: Thunderlord's Decree: It's not good on vlad, but the 5% cdr is. Faster heals, and more slows and pools. Deathfire Touch: Waaaaay more damage, especially considering Vlad is a late game champion. Once you have AP his constant damage spam will keep the effect up at all times.

Decide if you team needs more damage or utility to make the choice

Vlad mid>vlad top tbh.

Mid he can utilize his EXCELLENT mid-game with wota+abyssal.

Top lane his mid-game is always a lack-luster farm-mode. He only really has a mid-game if he gets a huge advantage over someone top lane early on.

That said, mid takes a LOT more work and practice in order to cs decently before revolver+negatron combo.

def agree with mid being better than top

I don't play top but i can't really say, but i feel liek unless you're playing vs a zed or yasuo (haven't tried vs yasuo yet) you should win just by outsustaining them.

atm i try rushing CDR boots works well it seems.

Uhh, try this instead.

30% CDR page. Stormraiders w/5% cdr. Grab swifties (or another boot if its higher priority; swifties>sorc for aggression)

Rush Wota if easy lane, revolver->negatron->wota if hard. Some you may need to drag out with negatron+pots before you can even grab revolver. Mostly if your jungler won't help out, though, even if you can't farm. :c

If match-up rushes MR, void immediately after abyssal.

Always take exhaust vs AD lanes or other all-in laners. I usually do in general so you can always solo ADC.

Set-up gives you a LOT more kill pressure early-mid game, gives you extremely high team-fight mobility, and allows you to even shred tanks with 45%+28 effective magic pen.

It's less viable then top lane. When you take Vladimir mid, you're competing against other mid range mages, such as Annie, Anivia, Viktor, A Sol. You don't have the same damage output, or CC that they do early. He already has a weak early game, so putting him up against a Zed, or an Ahri can end badly. Vlad has really poor sustain pre-CDR items / Wota / lvl 9. He can't survive lane against a bully like Zed.

Top lane, he can... I want to say abuse the point where tanks are slightly weak to early on, but that's not really true this season. You will lose lane to most tanks. But you can survive lane typically, and scale into a respectable sustain tank.
