Death's dance Vs Bloodthirster Needs to be Looked at.

has anyone noticed people just taking death's dance on almost every carry these days? even QT takes it on DRAVEN who is 90% auto attacks and should love bloodthirster more is taking it. I had a few ideas for a small BT rework such as:

give bt a base shield it will sit at and an increasing shield as damage is done in combat with diminishing returns.

if the player is shielded and lifesteals a small % of the damage will also be returned to fill the shield back up as well as hp.

while the shield is full an extra stat such as a bit more ad or movement speed or lifesteal is in effect for several seconds after losing max shield and can be refreshed by reaching it again.

or things like that. basically I think of DD as the item for carries who like to stand back and don't want to be burst - the banshees veil of ad - and BT for those who like to get down and dirty in combat.

I always thought DD was supposed to be the AD healing option for casters, it seems its not really fulfilling that role as it should.

An idea could be to adjust the healing portion, reducing it to 10% of damage dealt but is no longer reduced for aoe (but still reduced vs minions). Considering most AD casting abilities are not just single target it would probably be a buff for them and a nerf for adc's etc who should be building BT.

this is good, and perhaps a retinkering of passives. as it is the overshield is only useful while it lasts and you can stay out of combat. whereas you can keep taking damage with DD and it'll keep on doing its thing down to the last tick of hitpoints.

People are probably over valuing the damage delaying mechanic on item 3812. item 3072 is undoubtedly the better item on Draven perhaps even on Graves (this depends on how valuable that 10% CDR is).

you've seen the clips of a draven with item 3812 item 3046 pulled into a 5 man blitz pick and just sitting there chunking everyone down and not dying? I found like one but it still exists.

item 3046's damage reduction and the lifesteal like effect on item 3812 are what make things like that happen more so than item 3812's passive damage delaying effect (remember you still take the damage, just not all up front). Lifesteal tanking has been pretty nuts ever since season 6 gave marksmen really good items (which they had needed for a long time). You pretty have to get the 100-0 or they heal it all back in just a few autos, more high DPS+% of DPS lifesteal being strong than anything else.

so a team pulls the draven in, does collectively their 4-5k damage that he's not supposed to be able to tank, and 12% less than that is 1500? yes the - thirty - percent - damage - mitigation - might be helping with that I think.

It doesn't reduce damage taken, it delays it, and that is why I said the real culprit here is the power of lifesteal on high DPS champs. After the pull Draven got to stand there and chuck axes at people unmolested by hard crowd control, with how much DPS he had at that point, he easily generated an entire new health-bar worth of hp in the next 2-3 seconds, which literally saved his life (the vid you thinking off was a highlight from imaqtpie's stream iirc).

that was the one. yea. point still stands the items are edging into each others territory and need to be changed around.

My point is that you're attributing the problem outcome to the wrong cause: The problem is how strong lifesteal is on high DPS champs (or perhaps better said, how strongly DPS scales nowadays; though I think this was intended with season 6 changes and that it's debatable as to whether or not it's bad for the game).

it's certainly nowhere strong enough to stop them from dying before they get the chance to lifesteal unless they get defensive options built into offensive items. it could be changed if lifesteal were classified as a defensive stat as I already think of it as. it can be moved onto items that don't scale with crit (less ad) and make stacking multiple lifesteal items a bad idea.

They hit lifesteal to hard is the reason. You can't heal well with BT anymore and the fact that DD gives damage reduction is a huge plus for the item. The lifesteal mastery is basically useless now so no one builds it either.

The BT shield scales up with level whereas DD always applies the 30% staggered damage and damage reduction.

DD>BT in most situations, especially against a Zed lol That 30% bleed is a lifesaver when a fed Zed ults an ADC.

Does anyone know if the Sustain passive on DD is Pre or post Armor mitigation?

I'm fairly certain that Life steal is post mitigation. (meaning, less effective against armor) Though if DD was pre mitigation, It's actual sustain would likely exceed that of Blood thirster.

I also find it awkward that despite their virtually identical stats. The Blood Thirster still costs an extra 200 Gold. And one of the hilarious aspects is that BT was suppose to be the defensive option when it came to life steal. But you can't really build it reactively because it's too expensive.
