There may or may not be a slight problem incoming with more mages being able to build Archangel's

Now, as many of you know, AP itemization is receiving an update that will make the new starting items for mages (that don't build RoA) GLP, Archangel's, or Luden's. However, the fact that a bunch of champions that previously usually had to rely on Barrier now have access to another shield. I played Vel'Koz on PBE and took Archangel's and it took way longer than it probably should have to kill me, granted they were able to before I lured them into my team, and I won trades that I wouldn't have on live. I didn't need a support to shield me in team fights, I could make my own shields with blackjack and hookers. Maybe this is a good thing, considering all mages have got in the way of defense now are Zhonya's and Banshee's, but I thought I'd warn you. I'm not saying mages are going to become unkillable, but it might not be good for one reason or another. I don't pretend to be an expert on this kind of thing, but it did raise a red flag.

what they need to do is remove CDR so it only provides 10% ... Because youre right why would i want the new ludens or GLP ? when i get can a shield... i used to build it on xerath for an extra shield which was nice with extra AP but what it missed was CDR which is what made me switch over to morrelo

Luden's = better poke/wave clear

GLP = better all in and utility

Archangel's = Better build path and scaling

All of them have pretty clear cut advantages and disadvantages, but I do wish they were all the same price.

i can understand the reasons to get them but say ludens for a poke champ such as xerath lux ziggs ... theyre all easy to dive too so wouldnt having taht shield be nicer? youll still be able to poke since you are a poke champion and with GLP i think its nice but for an all in again wouldnt a shield be better? and for utility surely rylais? since you get Hp with rylais and GLP doesnt anymore.. maybe as an engage get a pick for again would the champion be made to be reliant on GLP active? i think overall the shield would bjust be better ... better surviability means you can stay alive longer and get more damage out which to me sounds better? o_O

Different play styles can pick different things, as is archangel's will probably be the best late game choice. However I plan on actively going luden's on Ziggs for early pressure (both through poke and pushing minion waves to tower faster). GLP is nearly an extra 200 all in damage than the current morello first item which can make solo kills possible in mid lane again.

I mean I can theory craft for hours on these changes, but I do believe that GLP will be a slightly favored first item just because it costs less. If they do make all 3 cost the same eventually you could build any of them depending on play style and match up.

Oh certainly some people will go multiple mana items, but it has a lot of trade offs that simply depends on each champion and each game.

Liandries, RoA, Rylai, the orb thing, and evil tome will all be amazing second items that will be competing with those mana items.

So you used to build Xerath wrong. That's the jist of it. Why you would build Luden's or GLP is to deal more damage or slow, respectively. Not everyone can sling spells quickly enough with a low enough mana cost to get Archangels before the game ends. So you run the risk of losing to the enemy who bought Luden's before you have that shield.

Because you WILL reach a part of the game where luden leaves you oom when doing your poking thing. It's simply not enough sustain for midgame/early -late game prolonged skirmishes

How long did it take to stack though? I'd imagine Vel wouldn't be optimal for stacking the Archangel (but then again, it gives CDR now). Maybe it'll get nulled out by Luden being a better choice on him so people won't use it. If it's true though it's disturbing, hope this doesn't break Vel.

As for generally it on any Mage, seems like your main complaint is about the shield as it gives the major survivability so they might need to just nerf the stacking speed (or basically revert its buff), which would be reasonable since it gives CDR now which would certainly give the item indirect power in the Passive.

I actually like this change. I'm sick of bruisers being able to have three shields which makes them impossible to deal damage to (Steraks, Maw, Nullifying Orb), not only that, but if they build Edge of Night, which I see Kayn do every game, that's a 4th shield. Yes, mages are ranged and they're suppose to be able to protect themselves, but with the amount of mobility of non mages and the ridiculous mobility of melees, there's no reason why mages shouldn't have at least 1 shield that's actually useful towards AD champs.

Unless I'm mistaken, Sterak's and Maw don't stack, so you'd only be able to reap the benefits of one of those items.

Mages need some more ufm. So you better fucking believe you need all the defensive power you can get if you get jumped by and assassin or ADC.
