Athena's Unholy Grail on supports

A year ago, people bitched at me all the time for building it on supports.

Today, people bitch at me all the time for not building it on supports fast enough.

Seriously, fuck all of you.

item 3174 is pretty trash currently. You get similar benefits with item 3107 since unholy doesn't have the % amplification that redemption has and it proc on every heal and shield instead of just one and then you gotta recharge it.

It depends who you're playing. Sure, if you're playing someone like janna who really doesn't go in to poke, athene's is pretty awful, but for someone like, oh Idk, Lux, athenes isn't "trash" as you claim at all. It's just like any other item, it just needs to have good synergy with whatever champ you're playing. It's like saying deathcap is trash. It's 100% trash on someone without AP ratios, but it's one of the best for anybody with AP ratios

usually you get either of those items on supports. Lux isn't really a support and is considered off meta when played as such. The only expection woudl be Karma but she usually ends up building both of them anyway

I'd like to point out that Shurelia actaully designed Lux with support as a focus, and she was played as such long before people started taking her mid

And Diana was designed as a Jungler yet you see her more often MId, Nautalius was designed as a Jungler and Blitz as a Top laner figther, ekko was a skirmish assasin, and kayle as a support. Just because you design something with a role in mind doesn't mean that it end up on that role and can be considered off meta when they are returned to their designed position.

If you see a Blitz top you woudl consider him offmeta even though he was designed as a top laner, similar effect on lux as support.

iirc diana was designed as mid and blitz was designed before the meta was set in stone

Kayle is too old to have been part of the current meta. She was designed as a generalist like many champs of that era.

You do see Diana jungle, and Nautilus top lane. Those are far from troll picks. Blitzcrank didn't do so well top lane, so that's why he eventually shifted into a duo lane.

Lux, though, in support isn't a crazy pick. She has snares, slows, and a shield, and then a full blast ult. Her kit is perfect for a support, and a ton of other fully dedicated supports have similar kit designs.

If you really want to argue meta shifts, Morgana moved into the support role almost exclusively, despite being primarily a mid laner prior to that. She is just like Lux in terms of kit design, yet people condemn Lux and don't even bat an eyelash at Morgana.

morgana is still played mid a lot and has statistically a high winrate there

one needs to land her q well though

also morgana has a way better cc than lux - a longer snare and an aoe stun, also she has a better anti-cc shield than lux, that's why she is a better support than lux, lux severely lacks cc having only a weakish snare (even if it's a double snare) and a very situational slow

Nope. I don't consider anything off meta. I don't care what people play as long as everyone is kind and has a good time. It's a game after all, we're supposed to enjoy it

athene's always was a core on sona, both the old and the new one

Then they are stupid as item 3107 and item 3190 take priority unless someone else builds them.
