Why is Vayne too strong and how to tone her down without gutting her (JG and Supp main perspective).

Hi guys, so I decided to make this post to explain why I think Vayne is too strong and how we could fix it.

First of all, I am a plat 4 player, I play in mostly high Gold and low Plat games. I consider myself a Jungle and Support main, but I my third option is ADC, so I also have some knowledge there, though not as extensive. I mostly play Vi, Naut, Panth, Wukong, Janna, Morg, Cait and Jinx.

So, lately since the tank meta came rolling in I've seen a Vayne every single game I play, even if there are no tanks you can be damn sure you will see a Vayne. Now, since Vayne it's a direct counter to Tanks, it's no surprise she is such a good pick in the current meta, as such I would like to address her problems not by sheer numbers, but by lack of counter play.

First of all, something I have notice, and most people have pointed out, is that when there is a Vayne in the enemy team, you are now playing the League of Vayne. At least Support and Jungle need a tool to handle her, and you usually want an ADC bully. This is my first problem with her, you need to dedicate too many picks to try and keep Vayne under control, and also something to control her if she gets out of hand.

But, there is a small window of opportunity where keeping Vayne under control actually hurts you more than it helps.

And that's thanks to her R and how Vision works now.

Between level 6 and level 9 she can abuse this to get back into the game no matter how hard you counter her on lane.

Let me explain.

There are only 3 items to counter stealth in the game right now, item 3364 item 3362 item 2043. Two or them are unavailable until level 9 and with a 250 g investment, and one is just a re-skin "free" version of item 2043 . And to be honest, for a jungler and a support, that's really expensive, even though once you get them, her stealth is not such a huge issue as before.

Now, you might say, just get a pink and kill her. Ah, but that's the problem, you NEED a pink to fight her between lvl 6 and 9, otherwise you are doomed, and worst part is, that's her most important power spike she has in game. Once she hit's level 6, she can fight you, and she'll most likely get a BoTRK sometime between those levels, an other huge power spike for her.

So, basically, there is only one item you can use to stop her from getting back into the game. And you handicap yourself if you use it.

Vision wards cost 100g, you can only place 1 on the map, and can only have 2 on the inventory. But here is the catch, if you are a jungler or a support, there is HUGE chance you will need a pink for other purposes than fighting one champ. If you are getting invaded, you need it to keep your jungle warded. If you are invading, you can deep ward the enemy jungle, you also need one if you are planning on doing dragon (granted, you can use red trinket, but a pink is much safer). A Support can also use a pink ward for better things than just "drop it when she hits R". They can use it to ward their lane entrances if they are pushing (which they probably will against a Vayne), dragon control, they can also ward deep in the jungle if they get the chance, or simply ward a bush to keep control of the lane (this is the best way for a support to deal with Vayne's stealth, but it can backfire, you might not have enough wards to spot incoming ganks, maybe they find a way to out play you a regain control of the lane long enough to destroy that ward, or simply the fight doesn't happen nowhere near said ward)

But all of this work, all of this vision control, means nothing, because you dropped a pink to fight Vayne, and now you lost 200g, Vision control, and need to spend an other 200g and repeat until you can get a red trinket or vision trinket.

In my opinion, she is a very taxing champ, who is only weak pre 6 (about 10 min into the game) and after that it's just up hill for her and down hill for you.

Personally, I would love to have an item that allows us to keep her under control for a longer period of time than the one we have now.

I would suggest a 4th trinket, it will be a weaker version of item 3364, for it will not reveal traps or wards, but will give us vision of any champ.item 3348 It will work like this item, skill shot, anyone that gets hit by it gets reveled, it's upgrade will leave the a mist for a set period of time, any champ that enters the area will be reveled.

I believe this will give us a much needed counter play for Vayne's power spikes, you are still going to sacrifice vision control by this, but it would not be as taxing as it's now. And will also help with other problematic stealth mechanics in game. Such as Rengar Shaco.
