A simple fix to laners exploiting Smite

FantasySniper··4 votes·444 views

Make item 1039 automatically purchased and in your inventory at the start of the game - leaving you with whatever gold is left to make your own decisions.

Why? Because no jungler in their right mind will not buy it to start out their game, and no laner in their right mind would buy it to start out their game.

By making it a mandatory purchase at the start, junglers receive no drawbacks, while laners have to go through the first part of the laning with only a worthless item and 75/120 gold.

WHY?!?! so punish those that don't even abuse it? what logic is that?

How does it punish anyone who doesn't abuse it?

Junglers start with it practically 100% of the time, and the opposite is true for laners.

How does the game even know if you are a jungler or not? The only solution is that with smite it unlocks the special items, but forcing people to buy just will cause choas

Laning against Heimer or Yorick I will take smite every time... but you would have me pigeon holed into Hunters Machete when I took smite to counter play? No logic.

You shouldn't take Smite into Yorick, you're better off getting Ignite to counter his sustain, or Teleport to maintain your pressure so he can't take your turret.

Against Heimer, that's a valid point, but I would much rather they fix him in turn.

When Yorick makes an ADC ghost late game, I'd rather neuter his ULT then have Ignite any day.

I don't think taking Smite to kill the Revenant is a sound strategy. You'd be better off focusing the Revenant and then having an actual summoner spell to help you kill the real one.

What about Fiddle? Honestly it's better that he doesn't even build a machete given that runeglaive is really really really really (really) bad on him compared to literally any other item he could want.

This. Jungle fiddle doesn't need machete.

I don't find this abusive really. None of the champions picking runeglaive in lane are OP with it. It's a strong item, and I think it's cool that people now have another summoner spell to play around with. They pay for it by having a weaker early game. They have only one summoner spell until they finish their item.
