Out of the 25 most popular champions in plat+, only four of them are mages

See it here Vladimir Lux Ahri Morgana, with the 5th most popular mage being Lissandra, ranked #34.

I find it interesting enough to be pointed out

There are much more mages in the roaster, and yet none of them is being picked all the time (in fact, I added Morgana but she's played 80% of the time as a support.) And yet, we have the feeling to always face a mage in our games. (lesser pickrate per champion, yet more champions means we still encounter many mages). To me, this is healthy, as we learn to play against their itemization (which is almost always the same) and we don't have the feeling of any mage being overbearing.

Then we look at botlane... which desperately needs diversity.

Vayne Lucian Ezreal Kaisa are all in the top 6 most played champions btw.

For the record, I'll let you check what is the #rank of the 1st non-support tank champion.

ADCs are basically the only champions that are really viable in botlane, and there are really only 17 of them to choose from. You have the occasional mage like heimer, neeko, etc, but really it's only ADCs. Compared to midlane, where you have mages, assassins, and even occasionally tanks or bruisers, it makes perfect sense you get substantially more variety mid.

If you look at the top 25 played champions on lolalytics, there are 8 ADCs, which is basically half of the adc roster. Variety is fine given the small pool.

The best adc will always have the highest play rate it is not a diversity problem it has always been that way since adc has the smallest champion pool in the game the only way to fix it is a add more adcs in the game.

Also mid lane has a lot of diversity compared to other lanes so it makes sense and also if you look at only mid lane the most of the champions are mages and you will most likely fight a mage.

But much Mage Dominance though.

This isn't bad. There are Tanks, Mages, Assassins, Marskman, Supports, and Fighters. That is 6 different classes and 25/5=5 so mages are off by one to be considered on par with how many mages should be in the top 25 most played if you want all classes to be equally popular.

People rarely pick what is strong.

Edit: i'm downvoted just because I'm right.

Lissandra is busted (barely played) Vladimir is super strong (moderately played) A sol is strong (rarely ever played) When ivern was super busted (barely played) very strong now (barely played) Urgot was busted (only moderate play) When tanks were busted during the stone plate meta (only ok amounts of play)

On the other side of the spectrum and consistantly:

Yasuo is weakish (picked and banned a lot no matter the meta) Lee sin is ok but risky (played a lot no matter the meta) Marksmen are always played bot (even when mages were the strongest bot)

People just play what they like, not what is strong

There are 6 roles in the game. Assassin, Fighter, Tank, Mage, Marksman, and Support. If there are 4-6 in the Top 25 for each, that sounds healthy to me, even if there are more Mages present in the game than some other roles.

And not to forget Ahri is only there to counter meta picks Morgana is only there because of her Black shield since the game keeps getting CC Lux is only there because .. wait wtf Lux? Lissandra is also there like Ahri , to counter assassins and stuff

Vlad is just a meta pick overall and I don't really consider him as a mage since he has no mana
