Ok so according to Riot, Gnar is supposed to be "vulnerable" and "weak" in his mini-form but Gnar's DPS in his mini-form far outdamages almost all toplaners...
I don't say this often, but I think Gnar's damage needs to be gutted like Zoe's was and then slowly buffed back into relevancy

Baron Barian1 votesHis mini-form has the lowest base health in the game. Someone who can dive in on him early while he has no bonus health or armor/resistance will deal a lot of his max health. It has to be someone fairly mobile to pull that off.
And a lot of his damage is max health based as well as simple pokes, so tanks (who are typically slow moving anyway) are not a good choice to fight him.

The armor shred is really meant to be a solution to kill tanks and help in team fights. Against everything else in 1v1, it's only okay. It also takes 3100 gold, so it's not like he'll even have one finished after his first recall unless you int.

The Armor shred for Gnar also boosts his ability to deal damage AND his ability to kite by stupidly high amounts of stats
Gnar gets the best of an abusive earlygame, an amazing midgame, and an insane lategame for basically NO cost
"he's unreliable", well his cooldowns in mini-form just mean one team has to stall for 30 seconds until he spams Q enough for mega-Gnar and the team with Mega-Gnar wins every teamfight(for the most part)
Gnar's "weaknesses" are basically non-existent in the toplane
Similar to how Akali craps on toplaners because she outtrades and outscales every non-tank toplaner, Gnar is in the same boat
The two are only able to lose to champs that have movesets that completely counter them in order for them to be countered properly
The actual skill of the players involved is a factor that barely matters for Gnar players and Akali players
