A few things to note about Ekko's ultimate

Yes, it's powerful. But before you complain about how OP his ult is, I'd like you to realise a couple things about it.

  • Ekko cannot choose where his ult takes him.

Ekko goes to where he was 4 seconds ago. If he hasn't moved, he stays where he is. In essence, this means that if you DIVE Ekko instead of him diving you, while he's simply stutter stepping around, his ult is not a "free escape." His ult is a free escape if and only if he is actively moving around the map, and even then, he doesn't have any choice at all where he's taken.

  • Ekko generally either gets the damage or the escape, but not both.

Closely related to the first point, if Ekko dives in, does a combo, then ults out, he's not going to be hitting anybody with his 1.3 AP scaling on that ultimate. So take that completely out of the equation. Likewise, if Ekko is dived and his shadow is near himself, he's not going to be getting the escape at all, but he may pop you with the damage.

When WILL he hit you with his damage? Only if you dive him or you chase him. Ekko excels at kiting and counter-engaging on people who chase him, and those who are blind enough to stand right beside his shadow at any point in time probably deserve to take the damage anyway (Ekko walking into brush can be a tough story, though).

Now, I'm not saying everything is perfect and fine with his ultimate. We haven't had the time to really figure out what to adjust on Ekko. However, do realise that his ultimate isn't simply "a 1.3 AP scaling nuke that heals him and gets him out of any situation period," because that's simply untrue.

Its important to note that Ekko (provided he's moving around and isn't standing in one spot) will have better and better odds the longer a fight goes on, since it will give his time clone time to catch up to where you're standing, and for him to just ult and turn the fight around on you (your hp will plummet, and his will rise)

Generally I've found you should only ever fight Ekko alone, if you can do one of 2 things

A.) Force him to blow his ult to run from you, instead of trying to hit you with it

B.) Kill him in a way that prevents him from even using it (E.g: Malzahar's suppression, VERY fast burst or such things)

All in all I find his ult to be the strongest, but most balanced part of his kit (his W is probably the most problematic, probably too much of a one-point wonder in regards to the shield strength)

TL;DR: Keep trades (and fighting ekko in general) as short as humanly possible, you don't want to give his time-clone the chance to catch up to you, high burst is probably the best way to go against him, though hard CC combos that can 100-0 him will work as well.

Good post.

People don't seem to understand that for Ekko, if he wants to both engage on you AND damage you with his ultimate, he has to stand literally directly beside you for nearly 4 entire seconds.

For those who use relative league time, that's a full second longer than Morgana's bind. And I personally know that when she binds me, I get up, make myself a sandwich and some coffee and eat it all before it wears off.

The shield is not a problem at all. I've played enough ekko to get almost level 4 mastery, and I've never once said "man, good thing I had that shield." The only thing I can think of it being useful for is if you're running away from a fight and you just happen to get the shield as a global ult hits you. Reason why?

  1. If you use his W and get the stun, the shield will wear off before they can move again. You shouldn't be getting hit by other champions if you use your W and its stun correctly.

  2. If you use the W to slow and escape, you aren't getting the shield anyway.

With those 2 reasons in mind, the shield is effectively useless, aside from very specific situations.

what if... ekko hits a champ with ulti it does damage, if it his no one but minions it heals. what if the use of the ulti determined the effect it would provide. but not both? idk it was just an idea doubt many would agree though.
