For The Love of LoL.. Please Remove Corrupting Potion From The Game

Healing potions shouldn't give additional damage, especially not on-hit DoT damage. Red Elixir was removed because it was too strong early and corrupting potion is not any different. It's completely busted on any bruiser or tank early into the game and it's simply unfair to have to lane against. The amount of sustain the potion adds is far more than any Doran's item can currently provide (and you only get 1 potion with a Doran's item) and the damage from proc'ing the potion's passive effect is just as strong.

Seriously, either majorly buff the other starting items to compensate or remove this potion. You shouldn't have to counter someone starting with a corrupting potion by buying another corrupting potion.. but right now in a lot of cases that's literally the only answer unless the other person is terrible, countered, or you have a decent amount of help.

Let's not even get started on champions like Singed abusing secret stash with 2-3 early Dark Seals so that he heals faster than Jesus himself with CP. Welcome to League of Potions.

AHAHAHAH you fucking killed me with the jesus joke. Yeh i agree as a Darius player corrupting is a rather oppresive starting item.

I'm just gonna point out, I take CP on Shen (Too really good effect it boost your dueling power by a lot I recommend trying it) which is bad considering it's so good that I don't even mind wasting the mana regain.

I really like Corrupting Potions actually, every dipshits buys it no matter what, even if the situation favors Doran Shield or Cloth 4 instead of it.

Always get FB with Jayce if they buy CP.

What situation calls for a Dorans shield over pot sustain?

If you are against a Jayce? A good one, actually, not the bandwagon trash ones.

Ralanr2 votes

... I don't get it. Are you saying that shield is actually good against ranged top laners?

Jinzo Torrance1 votes

Uh? Explain? It's good against Jayce, his auto are what he uses for the first levels to get a kill, so yes? Am I missing something?

It's just that in my experience, Dshiele doesn't make enough of a difference to buy it over a refillable health and mana pot.

In fact it feels much better for the pot because of all that sustain and the money I end up saving.

Without 80 more health and that 6-7 damage reduction on every auto, you are too squishy to hope to stand against him if he wants to get a lead (also everyone trades with him by stopping and AA him for some reason so maybe it's not that necessary if you don't do that, but still it definetily helps).

It's bad against most, it's good at surviving against a Jayce.

CP 125 HP regen 75 mana regen, 3 charges, refill at the shop.

Dorans shield: 6 hp every 5 seconds, blocks 8 damage from basic attacks and single target spells.

CP will grant up to 375 HP after all 3 stacks are spent. Doran shield HP regen starts at 72 HP a minute. making it's long term HP regen level off a little after 5 minutes. But that's assuming you are not trading in between, as the 8 damage prevented will add up.

Doran's shield is probably better for long term use. The problem arises of, When is the long term benefit, actually better than the short term gains from CP? Well, probably when you have a means of staying healthy, out side of dorans or CP, and Ideally you shouldn't be too mana dependent. (I've been taking shield on Vlad, though their are few good options for him)

So basically it's good for when the laning phase wasn't short.

The thing is if you are taking damage and using the potion you are also likely to back and then you have another 375 health that can be healed. Again and again. If you have Teleport, it has a 300s cd (without masteries) so realistically you can have 3 charges every 5 minutes. The shield blocks damage from auto attacks but it won't block damage from CP. So if you compare just the two items alone (without any champion kits involved) the CP wins out, even if you added in the additional health pot. (Doran Shield + 1 Health Potion = 510 health - CP 375 Health = 135, CP Damage 15 damage x 4 [12 sec duration / 3 seconds max damage proc = 4 total procs] = 180 about 45 more damage than Doran's Shield heals.)

Not to mention that CP damage scales into the game while Doran's Shield never gets any stronger.

People always buy it because it's broken. Cloth Armor + 4 Potions is never better than a Corrupting Potion. Doran's Blade / Ring / Shield is very debatable depending on the match-up (for example, ADC never going to take CP). In Top lane, there's basically nothing stronger than Corrupting Potion. You won't see high tiers do it simply because it's not a viable option on many champions (i.e. Vladimir, Riven, Kennen, etc) however that doesn't mean it's not stronger on those champions because it actually is. The base stats on Doran's still don't equal out with how gold efficient (and ridiculously strong) a Corrupting Potion is.

Also, you have to factor in power spikes, if you see a champion like Darius with a CP and you are Riven or Irelia with a Doran's item then you have a pretty big opportunity to all-in him and snowball at 2-3. However good players aren't stupid and will realize this and will make sure it doesn't happen.

Corrupting isn't stronger than boots/pots on Vlad, or even Kennen. However, Kennen takes D-blade due to the synergy with his high base attack speed and level 1 starting ability.

Cloth+4 is much more effective than corrupting depending on the match-up. Nasus vs any AD. Anything vs pantheon. Stuff like that. However, in most cases Corrupting is better.

I still think a Doran Shield against a Jayce makes it that he can't get a FB easily thanks to the more health and reduction on his auto, CP can get you back in the lane if he fails to do it, I guess, still Doran Shield makes you difficult to all-in for him (except if you prolong trade with him from level 1 to 4).
