Why do assists not mean anything?

There was a game where my friend was playing top and the adc was . I was mid lane and pretty much the game went like this. I don't quite remember what my score was, but my friend was 3/10/12. Tristana was at like 7/5. I remember this one fight in that game where I threw my q out and it connected with 3 people that were split pushing. I followed up with the ult and tristana comes in for 3 easy kills because they were all low hp. We ended up losing, but Tristana complained how she did everything when my friend who was 3/10 had the most damage dealt to champions. and the 12 assists? Might as well just get rid of that number because people think kills is what considers you good. League players in general should not have to peel for another player(usually adc) only to have the ADC take all the credit.

A while back there was a similar situation with adc who was like "i carried y'alls asses"

ADCs always think they carried, regardless of score... at least in my experience.

Seems to be most common with that role, but I still believe it's a league thing not a role thing. I shouldn't have to give out advice or my friend give out advice to someone who sits there and says "3/10 shut up" Like if my friend were to say something like tristana we're pushed in don't extend to far out and her say "3/10 shut up", that's just absurd and it seems like a lot of people do it.
