Why is mana regen being taken from midlane?

With the new item changes on the PBE, item 3174 won't be viable in midlane anymore and item 3165 will now have 400 flat mana and NO regen. In my eyes, this will make mana-hungry champions almost entirely useless. I don't understand how mages are expected to trade or waveclear without having to recall 2 minutes later because the enemy Zed is spamming shurikens and they can't do anything about it because their mana pool doesn't regenerate.

Can someone explain how these changes are seen as "healthy"?

I usually try to understand the game change decisions and give riot the benefit of the doubt, but this upcoming change really REALLY worries me. It would make more sense if they were removing mana as a resource alltogther, or if they were also changing the rate at which other resource bars refill. If energy didn't completely refill in a matter of a couple seconds, it would make more sense to me that they're nerfing it. But I don't understand nerfing regen of the slowest generating resource in the game. Especially when there are champions who don't require any resource like Kat & Riven.

I also really really hate the idea of REQUIRING damage to be taken to regen mana. Not all mana users are /that/ safe. When playing versus an assassin, taking ANY damage outside of poke means you're probably about to die. "Being too safe" seems to be a select few champions fix and not an entire resource for all mages fix.

I'd really love to hear from a Rioter the thinking behind these changes so the rest of us can understand/worry a little less.

I get what Riot is trying to do. But as long as manaless & energy champions exist in midlane it isn't going to work well.

I posted a thread on this as well, also regarding all the AP we are losing as well in 6.9. The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. Its like they dont want anyone to play mages any more. They want us all to play AD champions. If these changes go live a lot of mage champions are going to be ruined.

I'm personally under the assumption that the changes are to make things like ryze/anivia easier to retool, and to make the red/blue buff of way more significance (causing more people to fight around it). It's either that, or they want to make this game as simplistic as possible by making all AD/"left click" characters OP as f'ck.

I just think Tear will become first rush buy for every mana midlaner.

the all around benefits are broken in theory.

It's not viable on any of my midlaners. Early CDR it too essential and the tear line doesn't provide any. Unfortunately the mana items that do provide CDR are no longer viable either.

The thing is the passive is a 25% increase to total mana pool. And thats JUST the passive.

Mark My words tear will be rushed on correction "almost" ALL Mana midlaners.

Also there is a big chance that all Mana using champs that are primarily mid lane will get mp5 buffs.
