Why are the boards a place for hypocrisy?

Hallbuster··2 votes·290 views

You can have 2 similar posts, one gets down voted to oblivion while another gets up voted for everyone to see. One of the finest examples of hypocrisy are poss regarding off meta builds/champions. Some posts get down votes and flame while others are encouraged. Take for example a post regarding Jungle Ezreal, it earned a total of 9 down votes because players believed he was handicapping his team. Weak ganks, poor wave clear, etc. We then have a post regarding Kindred ADC in another ranked game, and a player who was greatly upset that it cost his team a win when he fed his butt off. Guess what happened after he complained how upset he was in his post, it got down votes as well, up to 14. Do players come to these boards just to down vote or are they all hypocrites?

It can depend on a variety of factors, including (but not limited to):

[1] The OP's reputation (i.e. positive, negative, known troll, etc) [2] How the OP represents themselves (i.e. calm, rational, ranting, aggressive, etc) [3] Which forum users come across the post first [4] Existing biases regarding the topic being discussed

Because people are opinionated, delusional and prefer letting others think for them.

This is also a "popular" and clearly not original opinion. Maybe you don't like independent thinking as much as you think you do.

So in order for someone to be free-thinking, they have to disagree with everyone else?

Says a lot about you. Take your passive-aggressive hipster disease and ram it up your nostril where nobody else can see it.

Except that's not even something I'd implied, but something you did suggest with your sentiment.

I wouldn't call myself a hipster in front of the edgy "people are wrong and stupid" narrative.

You're using the word hipster wrongly.

I also think "Because people are opinionated, delusional and prefer letting others think for them," is popular and unoriginal, but that doesn't make it false.

Nor does it mean people of the opinion that "people are opinionated, delusional and prefer [to let] others think for them," aren't free thinking.

In cases like those, votes can also represent what people think will or won't work.

I wouldn't think Ezreal Jungle would work because I doubt it gains anything (you lose your fantastic Q poke lane harass for.... what?), but I can imagine Kindred ADC working even if you are giving up parts of your passive (obviously it would have worked better before her changes, but still).

At that point the votes are less about Off Meta picks in general and more about the specific off meta picks.

They are marksmen, based on the general design direction. Just that they're made for jungle.

That's why self modding communities rarely work. A group of circle jerkers will hide rate everything they disagree with rather than things that violate the rules.
