what IS lethality?

Critmaster Garen··9 votes·92,988 views

some rioter who cares to give an insight into the stats actual scaling?

i mean with flat armor penetration it was just that. you had 20 flat armor pen, means you ignore 20 out of the enemies total armor. clear as day.

but the tooltip on the stat is so vague now, does anyone know what it actually does? apparantly it still grants flat armor pen, but now scales with enemy level? scales how?

what is 10 lethality against a target of x level in armor pen? is it 0.55 armor pen per level, and reaching 10 at lvl 18?

Just a note for you, this means that lethality scales up to a 1:1 lethality to armor pen ratio. To really shed clarity, You will always have 40% of your lethality as armor pen, plus 1/18th of the other 60% of your lethality per enemy champion level. Every level up an enemy gets, adds 1/18th of that 60% into your armor pen. So at level 18, you get 100% of that 60%(which scales with enemy level) and your base 40%. (So you get 100% lethality as armor pen vs targets @lvl 18)

Its basically scaling flat armor pen, but instead of scaling with your own level it scales with the enemies level. its that simple. Stop trying to overcomplicate things people, holy shit.

Dude he's not overcomplicating things. I mean, if I buy 60 lethality I wanna know how much armor I'm penetrating. Riot is the one overcomplicating things. This lethality stat makes things so unclear imo.

They've already made posts explaining the stat

FallingUpwardz1 votes

or they could just ad it to the tooltip lol

40% of your lethality is flat armor pen. The other 60% scales with level.

Its still the same old armor pen we're all used to, but now you don't immediately get all of it so its not just a snowball mechanism.

it doesnt say that. it also wouldnt make much sense. the adc gets ninja tabi and now has some armor, so it doesnt have an effect at all? nope.

flat armor pen was always more useful against low armored targets. and as far as i understand the statsstill gants flat armor pen. theyve just now added that to the tooltip so really everyone understands.

but lethality isnt entirely equal to flat armor pen. it has some sort of level scaling now that isnt explained.

Armor pen that scales with the targets level.

Armor pen that scales with the targets level.

and how exactly.

THATS my question.

I don't have the formula, ff@20 might have it

"Lethality now gives the owner flat pen split between a base amount, and an amount that scales with the target's level.

The current formula is 0.4X + [((0.6X * Y)/18) = Flat Penetration Amount], where X is Lethality and Y is target champion level. This is very much subject to change as we start getting a lot more balance information." -Fearless

ok, this was actually helpful.

problem is that lethality scales with the enemy champion level. otherwise id have said it should show its value in the popup tooltip.

So does that mean 1 lethality = 1 flat armor pen at level 18, but at lower levels 1 lethality<1 flat apen?

1 lethality is 1 flat armor pen against lvl 18 champions.

it is >= 40% of its value in armor pen against champions below lvl 18.

dosen`t that mean that at the most you can only have 18 armor pen?

no, it means at the most you can have your value in lethality equal flat armor pen against a lvl 18 champion.

means if you have 80 lethality, youll have 80 flat armor pen against a lvl 18 target.

so basically your telling us that armor penn aka (lethality) is useless early game to somewhat alright mid game and MAYBE ok late game. But by then all the tanks have so much armor that its still useless. This is what I'm seeing in games and I understand now why everyone says season 7 adc is useless. So much that now adc mage is becoming the meta because there are only like 2 magic resist items that work for any given character. And when you add that up its only around 80 MR but the problem is that put against any common mage who has around 500 AP late game it's still 2 shot tanks. This must be ritos way to get people interested in hybrids carries like Ezreal , Corki , and Lucian again. Also probably why we see a lot more Kayle being brought out lately

The point of lethality isn't to target tanks. The reason is because they want to do close to true damage to mid laners, adc's, and squishy jgs. The reason lethality replaced flat armor pen was because flat armor pen was deemed to be too broken and a lot of AD assassins could just one shot mid's/adc's

Riot should change it so it would say the 40% of the lethality as "[base] armor pen", and the other scaling 60% as "+x per enemy level armor pen". so for youmuus, tooltip should say "8 + .66(per enemy level) armor pen"

What they should do is make it an even 50-50 split so the tooltip can say 'Lethality - gain half of the value of lethality as flat armor penetration on purchase, scaling up to double that value against max level enemies based on enemy level' or something similar to make mental calculations easier.

If they did do that, it could throw off the general game balance. Readability should be organized in a way that will continue to be equally as readable even when numbers are changed. Maybe it could have a list at the bottom of the tooltip that shows all currently known enemy champion levels, and next to it, the amount of armor pen you would have against that level. Would be extra neat if there are multiple champions of the same level, so the list condenses each level into one listing.

Formula to calculate flat armor penetration with lethality is as follows: 0.4X+0.6XY/18 X - Lethality value Y - Enemy level

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Flat armor penetration which scales with the targets level.

It goes from roughly 40%/60%* of the value at level 1 to 100% at level 18.

I believe it is 40% currently but it will be changed to 60% in the next patch.
