Why Sion's design is terrible

Sion used to be a fun and balanced champion to play as and against, a bunch of patches ago. That was until patch 8.16, where this happened.

Soul Furnace Bonus health on enemy kill increased to 4 from 3. Bonus health on large-enemies and champion takedowns increased to 15 from 10.

This buff was completely out of place and unnecessary. Sion was in a good state before this but for the past few patches he's just been broken, as evident by the inting Sion strat that everyone loves.

I'm not sure how much sense it makes that with one cannon minion wave Sion can get 40 free HP. This means that Sion gets ~150 HP every 4 minion waves, meaning an extra 400 gold every 2.5 minutes in lane. (Roughly accounting for Siege Minion spawns).

I think the first step towards fixing Sion is reverting this buff to make his scaling more bearable. The next step would be to make it so if he kills a buff in his passive, he loses the buff. Ya know, like every other champion in the game. This would help to prevent early game cheeses on buffs and generally make him more fun to play against.

Speaking of which, I think his entire passive could use a rework. This passive promotes dying and with the right build can just breed a champion who survives for tens of seconds whacking at your team with crazy attack speed doing 10% current HP damage to everything he hits. His current passive is cool on paper but in practice it does not do well in terms of health for the game. I don't know what his new passive should be but it could damn well be better than this one.

That was my Sion rant, I think that in his current state he is a very badly designed champion that is in dire need of small-medium scale changes to make him healthier and better to fight against.

"Sion's Q no longer goes on a reduced CD if it's interrupted."

Balanced. The champion's fine. Ironically the W change made him one of the only viable tanks besides cho'gath. Massive amounts of health gain aren't great for balance, but within reason with how high the damage is in the game right now.

If Sion steals a buff early, blame your team. It's not hard to ward. It's not hard to watch river. If you lose a buff to a cheese strat, that at least 1 in 5 people should know about, you deserve to lose the buff.

Is Kog'maw incentivized for dying? Old zyra? Karthus is the only champion "incentivized" for dying, and that's because he gets uninterruptible spellcast time. Espc. on an ulti with a long windup. It's a useful passive early, and for return kills, but in any mid-large size engagement, he gets CC'd with relative ease. If you replaced the passive with something else, it'd be liable to be a buff to sion.

It has never been a real problem and isn't one now. There are several mechanisms in the game to easily abuse someone who isn't really skillfully split pushing with him currently. Top laners who can abuse klepto and kill him easily like Udyr Illaoi get insanely fed off of him, a very specific top laner known as Satan Teemo can brutally counter him by exploiting item 3041 and using blind to prevent striking the tower and mushrooms to prevent getting to one without ult, and there are several others who can meet him further up lane and slow/cc and kill him to prevent him getting to towers Singed Nasus while also proxy farming to prevent the loss of reinforced armor on turrets.

Once Sion gets 6 aganist a Teemo its gg, aganist Teemos I max Q and when I get to 6 I all in the Teemo nearly oneshotting him a easily chained Ult then Q, Teemo gets destroyed in a match up against Sion. Even Pre-6 I will normally wack a Teemo in lane. Squishes do not pair well against Sion at all. Also Susan is hard countered by Sion because all Sion has to do is save his Q for when Susan goes to Stack. I would know because I mained Sion before he was buffed and would destroy Teemos and Susans in lane. Those two examples of champions are bad ones.

Not really since we are talking about "inting" Sion not actually trying to fight people Sion and the Teemo matchup is a skillcheck one not a hard counter. Anyone who is good with Sion can win all ins on most top laners when they hit 6 if they catch them out with their ult. Most of the people doing this are really bad at it and can't even do the strat right they aren't Sion mains who know how to sequence his abilities and win lane then split push properly with him.
