So Riot Is Giving On-Hit Carry Builds Another Try. Let's Hope That It Works.

On the PBE, BotRK's on-hit deals 8% instead of 6% of the target's current HP and Guinsoo's now has a whole 25% base attack speed without any drawbacks, which is a lot.

Historically, giving out such buffs and changes was always pretty dangerous. Let's take a history lesson.

First there was Feral Flare, an on-hit jungle item that would get increasingly stronger by farming up. That turned out to be completely broken so they removed it.

Then, later, Sated Devourer was introduced, shortly after Fervor of Battle. While Fervor of Battle always was really good on on-hit carries, Sated Devourer combined with the old Guinsoo's Rageblade just made it even more ridiculous.

Alongside that the reworked Kog'Maw was a thing, having double the attack speed which also meant double the on-hit effects.

All these factors, old Fervor, Sated Devourer, old Guinsoo's and old Kog'Maw made balancing on-hit carry builds basically impossible.

The thing is, now all these factors are gone. By reworking Fervor to give AD instead of on-hit they effectively removed the last big risk in buffing on-hit carry builds and now, after long and careful preparation, they are giving it another try.

Now two things can happen. Either the buffed Guinsoo's and BotRK will revive the whole balancing nightmare anew or they will finally, after several seasons, stop the balancing rollercoasrer that is on-hit champions and builds and make them balancable.

As a Yi main, I really hope this will work.

Everyone who loves to play KogMaw MasterYi Irelia Jax Kayle etc., cross your fingers and pray that this is not going to turn out to be overpowered.

BotRK on-hit was nerfed from 8% to 6% almost exclusively because of S6 Kog rework. I can't imagine reverting that will cause many issues. Jax might swap Hextech Gunblade out for it, but if it wasn't incredibly OP before, I don't think it will be now.

Kayle might need a small base stat nerf to offset Rageblade buffs (since she's already reasonably strong), but I can't imagine it will affect the others that much. Irelia and Jax are still going to get Triforce first, and they won't be able to afford Rageblade's steep cost unless they're already snowballing out of control. I could see glass cannon Yi perhaps picking it up. But with the change to the jungle emphasizing ganking over farming this season, I think that will probably balance out any strength Rageblade might give him.

And of course, the nerfs to Fervor are nothing to be sneezed at either. So the on-hit champs that would benefit the most from BotRK and Rageblade buffs are also starting out lower. I mean, the additional 2% current health from BotRK is probably less than the amount lost from even partially stacked stacked Fervor (unless you're attacking a full health end game Sion/Zac/Mundo).

In fact, the changes to Fervor and the Kog revert made it possible for Riot to buff Blade and Rageblade.
