I think I just found the counter to Vayne.

Jungle Malphite with item 1315 item 3717 item 3742 item 3022 item 3143 item 3075

I take either summoner 4 or summoner 6 depending on how evasive I think my enemies will be.

Steal Vayne's movement while being able to see her at all times and keep her MS and AS slower than a sloth playing chess.

Thoughts, Summoners.

have fun against the magic damage from the enemy while Vayne ignores you and goes for real targets

To be fair, I DO have 4 other team members that can help while I make Vayne think twice about getting close to the action.

just like Vayne has 4 other team members that can help her while you try to annoy her

To be fair, if the tank has the attention of all 5 enemy team members during a team fight, are they not doing their job very well?

they don't even need to all focus you, the support is going to be more than enough to handle you and Vayne can just push you away and use her ult+BotRK active to get away and get to your team. You have literally nothing but armor and health in that build, no CDR to spam Qs or other skills nor enough damage to make her think twice about not ignoring you. You can slow her down for a bit... and then what? like i said you have no MR so good luck not being exploded by the enemy magic damage specially when everyone and their mother likes having %HP damage which usually comes in the form of magic damage. That build would be great if the enemy team is full AD and even then you need to be so late into the game to even achieve that build which is when Vayne starts to shine and you won't be able to survive long enough against her 1 on 1 anyways

You're being overly specific. If the enemy team has a significant magic damage threat you would obviously build at least a little MR. The above build is just an idea to generate discussion, not some magic key to making Vayne useless.

The idea behind the build, however, is a good one. I do a similar thing with Garen all the time. You don't have to go in and get kills, you simply have to keep the focus of as many enemies as possible, that way your team can roll in and handle the enemy team one by one in a safe manner.

The job of the tank isn't to survive after all, but to adjust team fights so they favor your team. If Vayne and her support have to blow resources just to handle a no damage tank that is a good thing for your team.

if the tank dies before they achieve anything worthwhile then they did their job poorly a good team will peel any realistic threat off her. Also if you are the main tank that just leave the rest of your team to be destroyed by the Vayne's team.

Also last i checked this item 3715 doesn't steal ms this item 3706 does.

You also said "this is the counter to Vayne what you think?" there is no "discussion" to be had. It's either the wrong build or it is. I have told you what is wrong with the build, no CDR nor MR and no real way of actually keeping Vayne next to you other than hoping you can constantly auto her while your CDs come back. Vayne can literally ignore you with this build after you ult her and slow her the first time since like i said she can just push you away and then use her ult+BotRK active on you if needed. You at most might annoy the Vayne a little and you need to be extremely careful you don't take poked by the enemies magic damage before you engage

item 3715 Isn't what I was talking about when I said "Steal Movement speed"

Malphite's Q is what I was talking about.

The reason I picked item 3715 is with the purpose of seeing her when she ducks into bushes and also reducing the damage she does by 20%

  1. The OP literally asked for opinions over his idea. If that is not supposed to start a discussion I don't know what would.
  2. Malphite has built in movement speed stealing. Maybe chilling smite would still be better, but Malphite can do it on his own.
  3. You're still being overly specific when the OP was attempting to generalize. He's not looking to detail out every piece of a team fight, which is what you're using as an argument against his ideas.

"overly specific" sorry that i'm bringing up things that will happen in pretty much 90% of the games. That's not being overly specific. But whatever get blown up by the enemy AP and get completely ignored by the Vayne since you have no CDR, MR or anything to keep her at your side other than auto attacking her and a 8 sec CD Q. By the time you can even use your Q a second time she should have disengaged from you a long time ago unless she is bad or unless she knows she can kill you before her team needs help.

The OP is talking about a 1v1 situation, which Vayne is arguably very strong in. You are only talking about a team fight situation.

Team fights have too many variables to handle when the goal of the discussion is the interaction of two particular champions. This is why I'm saying you are being overly specific. You don't need to add additional variables to answer the OP's question.

Vayne's mean weakness is the ban phase. She has trouble getting past it.

Haven't faced an Azir as Malphite yet, but when I do, I'll just have to be smart about my engages.

what i'm sayings that you will do nothing dude

redniwediS2 votes

If you can bait out his ult you'll do just fine. Just don't forget to add a bit of MR in.

Elisai1 votes

Azir's Ult doesn't stop malphite's ult. It is immune to cc.

redniwediS1 votes

Personally I prefer AP Malphite when fighting Vayne. Sure you can go the take no damage route, but you take even less damage if she instantly explodes.

BluePolarizer1 votes

The real counter to Vayne is reliable burst and long range poke.

Fizz Ekko Diana Ziggs Xerath Jinx Rengar are good against her. Too bad they get destroyed by either assassins or outplay themselves due to being feast or famine.

Enosetc1 votes

challenging smite doesn't reveal through stealth so you'd still need pinks or oracles' lens

also, with no cdr in that build you won't stick to her for very long. the e doesn't hurt vayne much because she itemizes attack speed over flat damage

Why not item 3110 which is one of the best items for Malphite while being one of the best items against Vayne ?

Swap that in place of Thornmail?

Yeah, I've done that before. I just wanted to add more DPS to my damage output with my suggestion.

Either's cool for me.

Not necessarily instead of Thornmail. Maybe instead of Dead man or Frozen Mallet. Anyway, though that build is cool against Vayne, she might just QSS your as/ms slow once she got out of your ult, tumble out and kinda get out.

And this build makes you pretty easy to melt for any mage, so you just have to hope they don't have an AP mid or top/ a Nidalee Elise jungle.

Not feeling too good about swapping out either Dead Man's Plate or Frozen Mallet.

I like to keep people I'm chasing locked down with FM and I like the speed boost to get to areas of importance from Dead Man's Plate.

Durzaka1 votes

You remove Thornmail from that build and Vayne will just MELT you without any fear.

That Thornmail is the only thing is actually stopping Vayne from hitting you.

Frozen Mallet is NOT helping you deal with that Vayne. Between Tumble, and Condemn, that slow is not helpful at all.

That's actually a good counter to Jinx because you steal her passive MS (iirc...may be wrong but I remember moving faster than normal after Q landed).

I think the better counter is Ashe . She won't be diving you.

colesy1 votes

malphite absolutely destroys vayne if you can get your team to spike her while she's knocked up (disregarding the base damage of the ult itself since it actually kind of hurts).
