Her base damage is really low. She also can't do sustained damage as comfortably as on hit ADCs so her ult makes up for it. And she is really vulnerable when she casts her ult if not positioned properly.

Except she has the 10 second spell shield that makes it super hard to CC her.

The reason her ult is doing so much is because people are building completely for the ult. The common MF builds are ghostblade>cleaver or ghostblade>edge>cleaver. Ever see a MF try to auto someone down (especially a tank) with that build? Her damage is pathetic. With the lethality build she becomes a one trick pony. While yes, edge of night does provide some protection (and personally I think it should be nerfed), there are a couple ways to play around it.

The main ways are to engage in the 20 second window its down if you bait it out of her, surprise engage if she isn't using it ( it has a 1.5 second cast time where she cant do ANY damage if she wants the spellshield to activate), or use poke like Varus Q or the like then engage. If you shut down her ult early or even zone her in a way that she can't comfortably ult, she will contribute almost nothing to the teamfight.
