I main the item Tear and my thoughts on the Tear changes

Yes, I do main tear. Yes, you can main an item - because I build it on 90% of my champion roster. Some people get attached to champions, well, I get attached to items - so deal with it. Don't believe me then check my match history. This is how I use the item:

High CDR / High Mana =

-You will be using more abilities, but get less out of those abilities; which means you will need to perform better than average against your opponents. -Because your abilities will deal less damage than if you didn't buy tear, you will be using more mana than before to waveclear and kill opponents. -You will deal a lot more damage than somebody who didn't build into a tear item at mid / late game. -I sacrifice damage runes and global power by going CDR runes -Hold lanes and offer extreme sustain to team due to an impossible to use resource; never go OOM and have more choices than if you had to resource manage

These are the current changes: LESS QQ Can gain up to two stacks every 8 seconds ⇒ Can gain up to three stacks every 12 seconds

This change is backwards, it should be the other way around. You should get the ability to stack quicker with more charges to use as well. The current changes are benefiting champions that utilize the tear less than champions who actually do poke often.

These champions are good for tear but are being nerfed with tear changes: Karma Varus Jayce AurelionSol Taric Ryze Orianna Taliyah Nidalee Lux Anivia Xerath Viktor Karthus Ziggs

These champions are not so good for tear but are being buffed for tear changes: Ahri Annie Leblanc Talon MonkeyKing Kayn Lulu Ekko Gragas Khazix Malzahar Swain Veigar

Why is it that we're buffing champions that don't even need a tear to begin with, they don't poke or do anything like that - they literally all either blow up their combo at once or just so happen to have a 3 combo ability that has a longer CDR. Champions with higher CDR will receive this as a buff as compared to champions that actually need mana to spam will receive this as a nerf.

My recommended change for tear to be ever considered a viable option:

item 3165 = +400 mana = 0 Mana +120 ability power UNIQUE: 0% cooldown reduction UNIQUE: Killing an enemy minion refunds 3% of your missing mana

item 3070 Can now stack up to 6 charges one time, while recovering a charge every 3 seconds. (Most poke champions will be able to use a spam ability every 3 seconds.) Stacking will remain the same. item 3008 No longer gives AD based on mana, however will now deal 8% of your enemy life points per auto attack, enemy champions hits will have 10% of their mana pool removed based on missing mana when at full build. item 3040 Now gives: 80 AP / 20 CDR and a new UNIQUE passive. UNIQUE PASSIVE: Enemy champions hit with this ability will have 25% of their mana pool removed based on maximum mana; suffering the amount of mana lost as physical damage.

Your suggested Morello is trash, and 1 of the reasons Morello is so popular is that if you take care of mana costs with item 3027 or item 3003 you have 2 free item slots to build cdr(item 3089 item 3135 item 1001 mandatory at full build). Mages need atleast 1 item with 20% cdr available.

Morello is popular because it's an item that does everything - that's the only reasoning behind it being so popular. If an item does literally everything, why would you even think otherwise of buying a different item? Also item 3089 is a noob trap for that price. It's taking the item back down to "do I need mana sustain in the laning phase?" Instead of: Do I need mana, mana sustain, max CDR, damage? Mages need more items period - our items are trash compared to AD's who don't even use abilities as much as a mage.

How is this a nerf for any tear champ again? It went from 2x/8sec to 3x/12sec, that's still one stack per 4 secs but with an extra charge. It makes the item accessible to more champions. If you love to main this item, I'd say that's a good thing for you because you might expand your champion pool a bit now.

About your suggestions: I'm not a fan of 20% CDR on morello, but with those changes, the price of the item will have to go down significantly. Draining mana was once in the game (on Malady if I remember correctly) but it was removed because people hated to play against the mechanic. It created a huge gap between mana users and manaless champions that caused some balance issues (hard-counters, etc. while Riot doesn't want a champion pick or an item to win you the game for you.) It's really fun to be the one draining mana, it's not fun to have yours drained.

Sometimes buffing an item for other champions doesn't mean it isn't worse on other champions. This item will be a lot stronger for champions it wasn't even meant for - they will be utilizing it better essentially than those it was meant for. Think of it like this:

Ahri + item 3070 = +5 Buffed Ziggs + item 3070 = +3 Not nerfed, but weaker in the actual game

EDIT:

To put this into better perspective:

What did the scouters say about the tears power level?

Ziggs 100 + tear = 105 Xerath 100 + tear = 105 Ahri 100 + tear = 107 Leblanc 100 + tear = 107

I see, if tear would become so easy to stack and so strong that everyone instantly has max stacks and becomes a must buy for everyone, you're right. But I don't think many champions will switch to tear as their main build. item 3165 in its current form will definitely stay the priority pick for most mages. I think the tear buff is rather to make the item slightly more viable because frankly, it was pretty weak with only very few champions using it but even they don't love it, they just take it because they need more mana than item 3165 gives or don't have another option.

tl;dr I wouldn't worry about ahri/LB getting stronger by the tear buff. They probably still won't use it.
